Had a bit of a jarring morning with testing at the hospital so I was very pleased to find 801 Southern Kitchen and Pancakes literally across the street. I was very hungry and just needed some quiet time to relax. This place gave me everything I needed. It's huge, clean, well lit, and comfy. The ladies up front were sweet and my waitress was a doll. There when I needed, but not hovering. Even the bathrooms were spotless. It's definitely a breakfast restaurant, although they do have burgers and other sandwiches on the menu. But when it comes to breakfast, they had everything you could possibly think of on the menu. I ended up choosing Big K's Combo and for the price of $11.99 I thought it would be a normal size meal. I was so surprised when an incredible amount of food for the money came out. Everything was delicious. Ordering grits is a bit of a gamble lately but these were the best grits I've had from a restaurant in years. The scrambled eggs were moist and tender, the bacon was crisp, hashbrowns very tasty, and the pancakes were perfect, with those special crispy edges that I just love. We found this place after leaving the soccer park a few weeks ago. We thought it gives Breakfastime vibes, so it can't be bad. It wasn't. The hostess and cashier both had no personality, but our server was wonderful and attentive. We were seated 4 adults and a toddler in a booth and it was rather uncomfortable, but we made the best of it. Our food was pretty tasty, but nothing anymore amazing than any other breakfast joint. It really did resemble Breakfastime as far as the food, decor, and even the pricing. I paid for my plate and my toddler and it was nearly $30. Which is insane for breakfast for one adult and one toddler. I enjoyed this visit and the food was good, but I won't be rushing back over there anytime soon. read more

Had breakfast here a couple times now and its one of the best breakfast places in the area. The hostess station is straight ahead right as you walk in, we have been greeted each time entering and seated all within the same minute or so. The interior is large and open with both booths and tables, as well as a bar counter area with seating. This place is known for its hearty breakfasts, great biscuits and excellent pancakes. I have tried a variety of items off the menu and each has been very good to excellent. One of the great things this eatery does is you can get an extra egg with you meal at no charge, literally nobody does that except this place. I had the hungry man platter the other morning and it was very good, a hearty filling breakfast that really hit all the boxes. The breakfast special #2 is also a good option. If you like biscuits and gravy then you definitely need to stop in, some of the best biscuits around period. This place is always great. Can be super busy on a weekend but got to visit on a Tuesday for holiday week. Didn't get busy until after 9AM - we were there at 8AM. Food was out quick and is super consistent from visit to visit. I always get a milk - I do not like their coffee. I love everything else about this place though. You still pay at the register when you are done. Add to your list if you have never been. My third time visiting this restaurant which I was lucky to find while traveling on I-40 over a month ago. I've now been there three times in less than a month (twice in one week) and look forward to it every time I'm on i-40 going toward Winston-Salem. This time I had the special which was turkey breast with dressing, cornbread and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese side was referred to as a casserole but I thought it was pretty runny and a bit bland, but certainly not bad. I also got a side salad which was fresh and tasty. I would have preferred it was served in a larger bowl so it didn't fall out when I mixed the dressing in it. The turkey and dressing was excellent! One person in my party had the Dirty Bird chicken sandwich, the exact same meal he had 4 days prior when we were there! He loved it that much. Came here with my mom. I had the avocado egg Benedict. It came with a choice of fries or hash brown. I thought that hollandaise sauce was really good. The hash brown was okay. It was a little undercooked for my liking. Would have like it do be a little more well done. Other than I really enjoy the meal. My mom had the breakfast special #2. The service was absolutely great My mom got the French toast, she loved it as well as the eggs and bacon. My dad got a Philly cheese omelette and my brother got a meat lovers omelette and they ate it up!!! They absolutely loved it. I got the avocado toast with sunny side up eggs. The home fries tasted great but a little cold. The bread was a little soggy but I blame the eggs (probably). One thing I noticed as soon as I bit into the eggs is an odd taste but I let it be. As I got to the middle I noticed the egg whites just weren't fully cooked. I was really disappointed because I had split my toasts and that was the toast that had the avocados with it:( I did let my server know after we got done and she was very nice about it. We also all shared the cinnamon roll pancakes and they tasted amazing! Asides from the uncooked egg whites. Everything else was delicious. The restaurant was very clean and I loved the atmosphere. A friend recommended this place and I finally had the chance to try it. The restaurant is clean, well-lit and inviting. We were promptly greeted and sat. They have a very extensive breakfast menu and there is something for everyone. I opted for two over easy eggs, biscuit, hash brown and fried pork loin. It did not disappoint. Everything was cooked very well. The pork was crispy on the outside and moist and tender inside. The has browns and biscuit were excellent as well. Our server was friendly and efficient. It's no surprise that we have limited options for good, authentic, southern breakfast food in the triad and I can safely say this is one of those places. Firstly, the menu is VAST. It would take forever for me to make my way through everything on the menu I saw that I wanted. It's also worth noting that they have a very unique set of pancake flavor options which I love! The space is clean and spacious and we only had to wait around 15 min for four people even though the parking lot was full. Our waitress was also a gem, attentive to our every wish during our meal. The food is really the highlight of our experience. I went with the big k combo as a recommendation from my friend and it was the perfect way to get a bite of an array of breakfast foods. I got the cinnamon roll pancakes, 2 over medium eggs, sausage patties, grits, and hash browns. I also had to have a side of toast to dip my egg yolks in. I cant name a single thing that that wasn't up to par with what I expect out of an excellent southern breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the sausage meaty, the hash browns crispy, and the grits were seasoned perfectly - I didn't even have to add salt like I normally do for grits elsewhere. My pancakes were also huge and exactly what I would expect from a cinnamon roll flavor. My husband got the bananas foster French toast and if it's even possible, they were better than the cinnamon roll pancakes. I ordered the number 1 combo that had two eggs, two fried pork cutlets, home fries with onions and a biscuit for $8.99, plus $.50 for the onions. Our server, Danielle was nice and prompt. Stopped here on our way back to Virginia and man was this a great choice. Clean and inviting and a very friendly waitstaff. My wife ordered the California omelet, I ordered the southwestern omelet. Both of those were cooked perfectly. We also ordered a biscuit and sausage gravy and a waffle, to share. E biscuit and gravy stole the show. The biscuit was fresh and fluffy and the gravy was seasoned perfectly. Probably the best biscuit and sausage gravy I have ever had and I have eaten a lot. We arrived about 10:30am on Sunday morning and the parking lot was busy. When we stepped inside it was fairly busy but we were seated right away. Our server took our drink orders and provided us menus. The restaurant itself is big and has booths and tables throughout along with a long bar area with counter seating. My wife ordered an omelet and side of bacon while I ordered the Dre burger and fries. The restaurant appears to be clean and well taken care of. The farmhouse decor was cute and cozy too. Our food arrived in a timely manner and looked and tasted yummy. The prices were very reasonable too. Overall, this was a great stop and we would recommend to others! read more

OK OK OK. I actually enjoyed what I got from here. I wanted so early AM food that was still regular food and this place was open and ready for business. They have limited hours, closing around 130pm so you have to get it while the getting is good. I got the Chicken Friend Chicken w/ sweet potatoes and broccoli casserole. The Chicken was seasoned and the gravy was good too. Not too overwhelming or thick. The sweet potatoes tasted fresh but lacked that love seasoning we all search for. The broccoli casserole was rich in cream/cheese. It was lightly seasoned which is better than none at all so for what I was it was good enough. I added my own love seasoning to it and it really set it off. It came with a biscuit because they had not made cornbread yet. The staff was nice. The gravy was too thick and milky and flavorless like it had too much flour in it. And my hash browns I barely touched cuz it just was lukewarm and lifeless. We both agree that the biscuits were very good though. The coffee was okay and my husband's dish he said wasn't that great either. So this was a one-timer for us. Oh 801 Southern Kitchen & Pancake House, where have you been all my life?! I'm not sure how long this restaurant has been here in Advance, but I know it took me too long to find it! We got there and there was about a 15-20 minute wait for 2 of us, so we just decided to sit at the bar because we were hungry (and I'm impatient.) I ordered coffee, and it was a pretty solid brew. Our waitress was friendly and kept our cups full. I had been craving pancakes or French toast, but I also really like some savory offerings with my sweets. I highly recommend one of the platters or breakfast combos for optimal sampling. I went with the Big K's combo which included a short stack of pancakes, 3 eggs your way, bacon or sausage (links or patties), and pick any two - grits, hash browns, home fries, or gravy. This was a great variety and a ton of food for the price! Because I am extra, I had to upgrade my short stack of pancakes to the bananas foster pancakes. You'll notice their impressive list of pancake varieties! I highly recommend upgrading for a small up charge. There are so many more varieties I want to try - birthday cake, cinnamon roll, Nutella, banana nut chocolate chip - the possibilities are endless. I love the that their menu is very customizable. The eggs were a sizable portion, and lacking a bit of salt, but easy enough to add my own. Made reservations for a group of 10 for 11 am on a Sunday. This was planned by a mom who had just lost her son and wanted to do a family brunch before she headed back to Washington state. I arrived at 11 and was given no indication there was an issue with our reservation. Forty-five minutes later we were told that before we arrived they had given our table away even though we had a reservation. After 45 minutes, this poor mom who just wanted to celebrate the life of her son had to make the decision to go somewhere else (even though she chose this place because she wanted breakfast). We called Venezia's, was sat as soon as we got there and had excellent service at Venezia's. very disappointed in the customer service of 801 Kitchen. First of all, shame on them for giving our table away, but then to make us wait 45 minutes before telling us that. the only other update we got in that time was that they were updating the seating chart and it would be a couple minutes. Met friends for lunch on Tuesday at noon. Parking lot was packed...usually a good sign, but not in this case. One friend got the burger and fries. She said it was just ok. The other got French fries and mac & cheese. She ate one fry and two bits of the highway strip yellow mac and cheese. Pretty much inedible - the mac was from a box mix or such like. I had the 3 vegetable plate with collards, pinto beans and broccoli and cheese casserole. The collards were from a can and NOT seasoned at all. The pinto beans were just OK and likely from a can. The broccoli and cheese casserole was broccoli with huge stems and cheap ball stadium (like on nachos) cheese sauce. They are confused on concept of what constitutes a casserole. This place is a hard no for me and anyone who asks going forward. Food out is to expensive to settle for crap from a can. DO BETTER. As an aside, our server was great. read more
