2 well sized, bone-in pork chops, nicely cooked
    Fred B.

I have eaten at this Southern diner a handful of times and both the quality of both food and service is good. This is a small place with maybe 20 tables and booths, and they are close together so the conversation noise can be distracting! On my latest visit I again chose the fried bone-in pork chops, along with mashed potatoes with gravy and pinto beans. My order was out quickly and everything was nicely prepared. Total cost, with sweet tea, was $12.54. This is a nice Southern diner, simple place with good food and good service. I recommend! Note that they do charge a surcharge for CC use - their choice. My choice is to adjust my tip to compensate, which I did!

We were in the area and my wife did some searching to find a place for breakfast or lunch. She remembered Southern Spice had great reviews and since we had not been in before, we thought we would check it out. She noticed the lunch menu starts at 11am so, we decided to target our arrival to get lunch. The restaurant is located at the end of a small strip mall just off I-40. The parking lot is large with adequate space. We arrived shortly after 11am. Inside they have a combination of booths and tables. We were greeted and promptly seated at a table with menus and told our server would be with us shortly. Our server arrived and took our drink orders. We also told her it was our first time in and asked her for recommendations and the most popular items. My wife decided to order the Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger (8oz patty with bacon, mushroom & Swiss cheese) without the bun and onion rings. She also added a small side salad with no cheese and ranch dressing. She was given the choice of iceberg or mixed greens which made her happy since she is not a fan of iceberg. I chose the Cowboy burger (8oz patty with bacon, American cheese, onion rings, lettuce, tomato & BBQ sauce) without the tomato and tater tots. The salad arrrived first and we felt it was a nice side salad for the price. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked delicious. My burger did have the tomato on it, which I removed and didn't mention to our server. After our meals were served no one came by to check in on us for quite some time. We needed more napkins and water refills. My wife had finished her water and ended up drinking most of mine before we were able to get her attention and ask for more. We really enjoyed our food and commented several times on how affordable the prices were. However, the service was not attentive, friendly but not attentive. Also, the men's and women's restrooms need attention and do not match the interior dining area which appeared clean and comfortable. In addition, neither of the automatic paper towel dispensers worked and there were no other paper towels which is partially why we asked for more napkins. Based on our experience, this would likely be a future takeout stop for us. We prefer other neighborhood eateries for table service. Overall, the food was a four, however, the lack of service and the cleanliness of the restrooms have us questioning the cleanliness of the kitchen resulting in an overall 3 star rating.

The was good. Our small flounder/shrimp platter was a bit disappointing. The flounder filet was so thin the coating was thicker than the filet. However, the shrimp though small was tender and delicious. The slaw and mac and cheese were pretty good. The open faced turkey was delicious even though it was turkey roll the flavor of the gravy and fries was wonderful. The service however was GREAT. Hostess and servers were very kind, attentive. They were well staves and ran a tight ship. Even the cashier was supper nice. The restaurant was very clean and with plenty of seating.

Met a friend here at the crack of dawn at 7am when this place opened for breakfast. The place was clean and warm (heat was on this chilly morning) We sat ourselves since we were the first ones there and there was only one server so early. Our server was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the three egg special sampler over-medium, with two slices of bacon, link sausage and ham. Got the biscuit and gravy too. The food was quickly prepared to order. Eggs were glorious and soft. Bacon crispy, sausage and hand nicely browned. Biscuit was golden brown on the outside and fluffy and soft inside. Sausage gravy was creamy and delicious. I also got a cup of coffee which they kept full the entire time. And price? Not bad. Two full breakfasts and a coffee for $17. This is a great little place to eat. They drop in and say hello.

As the name suggests, this is still an operation focused on takeaway dining, though there are some tables available on the sidewalk outside. I'd end up taking my food home on this trip though. Once again I decided to sample the Chicago-style hot dogs offered here. And there have been improvements since my first visit. The product now comes on an actual poppy seed bun, as it should. I don't think the bun was steamed though and that hurts the texture. The hot dog itself had a good snap and taste, and the through-the-garden toppings were loaded well onto the bun. Something's still missing about the overall taste though, as these simply don't measure up to other Chicago-style hot dogs I've had -- including many far away from Chicago. The build of the sandwich looks closer to being correct than it did five years ago, but the flavors are still wrong, and I wish they'd work to figure out what it is they're missing. I placed my order on site rather than calling it in, and the young lady at the counter was pleasant. It took a little longer than I'd expected for the kitchen to prepare my order; maybe they just don't get many requests for the Windy City dog and they're just not well versed in putting it together? This latest experience leaves me scoring Joe's somewhere between two and three stars, and though the food was better than last time I still lean towards the lower side of that range. Maybe their more Carolina-themed food would be better and result in a higher rating, but there are already plenty of places I can go locally for a hot dog fixed "our way," many of which would be at a more competitive price point and with better options for drinks and seating. I wanted to try Joe's because of the hot dog options they have that aren't widely represented elsewhere in this area, and in those respects I still can't find much to love here.

A small restaurant with a walk up counter area, and a side dining room only eight or so booths around the perimeter and a handful of tables and chairs in the interior. Service is brigade style, with several staff working our table. We were wanting a little bit, so started with the Calamari appetizer. It was well prepared and light breaded and flash fried, served with lemon wedges and a side marinara. It was very good, tender and cooked near perfection. We decided on a build your own Flatbread with canadian bacon, black olives, banana peppers and pineapple. Along with the Lobster raviolis. Both were good, the flatbread was done well but a little soggy? The raviolis had nice flavor and a good filling, and was a decent sized portion for the price. 4 Stars a good meal with kind service, popular with the area so it does get busy 01263

Sadly, they were not good at all. We requested them crispy but they weren't deep-fried enough to be crispy when we got them. We ordered both the Greek and Jerk flavors. The Greek wings were covered in what seemed like Greek salad dressing, making them very watery when we opened the container. They also lacked the bold Greek flavor we were expecting. We actually ended up sprinkling some Greek seasoning we had at home on them to bring out more flavor. The Jerk wings were better and did have some flavor but they still weren't bold enough for our taste. Since we really enjoy the restaurant's Greek dishes, we had high hopes for the Greek wings in particular. Unfortunately, neither flavor was a hit for us. We'll probably stick with our usual menu favorites next time.

My wife and I have been to some of their other locations over the years, and I've always admired their business model. They keep the menu simple, focus on quality, and add little touches that make people feel like they're getting more than they paid for--piles of fries and free peanuts while you wait. Potatoes and peanuts are inexpensive, yet they create a sense of abundance and generosity. Honestly, it's a brilliant strategy. But this visit gave me a very different perspective. I arrived just before noon on a Thursday. It wasn't busy, so ordering was easy. But the prices stopped me in my tracks. A little bacon cheeseburger alone cost more than $10. By the time I added a small fry and a regular drink, my total was over $20 after tax and tip. The tipping part is what really stuck with me. When the payment screen prompted me to leave 5%, 10%, 15%, or 20%, I couldn't help but wonder--what exactly am I tipping for? This wasn't table service. I ordered at the counter, filled my own drink, grabbed my own condiments, picked up my food when called, and would clear my own table. Yet, out of guilt, I still tipped. That little moment of hesitation left a bigger impression on me than the food itself. And the fries--once a fun "extra"--didn't feel like a perk this time. My "small" order was far more than I could eat, and I ended up throwing half of them away. What used to feel generous now just felt wasteful. I enjoyed the meal, but walking away, I realized I'd remember the cost, the tipping awkwardness, and the wasted fries more than the taste of the burger. It made me think: for the same $20, there are plenty of other places where I could sit down, be served, and leave with a better overall experience. In the end, I'll probably shy away from Five Guys and fast food in general. They still make a good burger, but the value equation just doesn't add up anymore.
