Been in a couple times now and the food is consistently good. Fried chicken, with mashed taters, turnip greens and peaches with cottage cheese. The chicken was fried nicely, crispy golden brown, tender and juicy. Good fried chicken. The mash done well, the greens very good with just a splash of vinegar. The peaches and cottage cheese just like when I was a kid, nothing fancy but good comfort food. Had dinner here recently. A busy little eatery thats very popular with locals. Good home cooking is whats on the menu here, with kind staff and fair prices. Sits in the corner of the strip center its in, a small interior with mostly booths and a few tables. We arrived at this restaurant a little bit before closing, so it had very few customers. They were cleaning and doing their nightly routine, which was fine. We were seated and welcomed immediately. Our server was so nice and friendly and was still attentive to us while doing her other tasks. Everyone working was busy as a bee. It's a small place in the corner of a strip-mall, but it gets the job done. We had never eaten here. Just passed it and thought, why not? I had a cheeseburger and fries and they were great! We tried their cheese sticks as well as hush puppies and they were yummy, too! We will definitely go again if in the area! read more

I have eaten at this Southern diner a handful of times and both the quality of both food and service is good. This is a small place with maybe 20 tables and booths, and they are close together so the conversation noise can be distracting! On my latest visit I again chose the fried bone-in pork chops, along with mashed potatoes with gravy and pinto beans. My order was out quickly and everything was nicely prepared. Total cost, with sweet tea, was $12.54. This is a nice Southern diner, simple place with good food and good service. I recommend! Note that they do charge a surcharge for CC use - their choice. My choice is to adjust my tip to compensate, which I did! read more

We were in the area and my wife did some searching to find a place for breakfast or lunch. She remembered Southern Spice had great reviews and since we had not been in before, we thought we would check it out. She noticed the lunch menu starts at 11am so, we decided to target our arrival to get lunch. The restaurant is located at the end of a small strip mall just off I-40. The parking lot is large with adequate space. We arrived shortly after 11am. Inside they have a combination of booths and tables. We were greeted and promptly seated at a table with menus and told our server would be with us shortly. Our server arrived and took our drink orders. We also told her it was our first time in and asked her for recommendations and the most popular items. My wife decided to order the Bacon Mushroom Swiss burger (8oz patty with bacon, mushroom & Swiss cheese) without the bun and onion rings. She also added a small side salad with no cheese and ranch dressing. She was given the choice of iceberg or mixed greens which made her happy since she is not a fan of iceberg. I chose the Cowboy burger (8oz patty with bacon, American cheese, onion rings, lettuce, tomato & BBQ sauce) without the tomato and tater tots. The salad arrrived first and we felt it was a nice side salad for the price. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked delicious. My burger did have the tomato on it, which I removed and didn't mention to our server. After our meals were served no one came by to check in on us for quite some time. We needed more napkins and water refills. My wife had finished her water and ended up drinking most of mine before we were able to get her attention and ask for more. We really enjoyed our food and commented several times on how affordable the prices were. However, the service was not attentive, friendly but not attentive. Also, the men's and women's restrooms need attention and do not match the interior dining area which appeared clean and comfortable. In addition, neither of the automatic paper towel dispensers worked and there were no other paper towels which is partially why we asked for more napkins. Based on our experience, this would likely be a future takeout stop for us. We prefer other neighborhood eateries for table service. Overall, the food was a four, however, the lack of service and the cleanliness of the restrooms have us questioning the cleanliness of the kitchen resulting in an overall 3 star rating. read more

The was good. Our small flounder/shrimp platter was a bit disappointing. The flounder filet was so thin the coating was thicker than the filet. However, the shrimp though small was tender and delicious. The slaw and mac and cheese were pretty good. The open faced turkey was delicious even though it was turkey roll the flavor of the gravy and fries was wonderful. The service however was GREAT. Hostess and servers were very kind, attentive. They were well staves and ran a tight ship. Even the cashier was supper nice. The restaurant was very clean and with plenty of seating. read more

Ate on a Wednesday night, place was mostly full at 730, a good sign. Inside a strip mall, and interior is no frills. But food is solid comfort food (had chicken fried steak, mac and cheese and okra), delivered by friendly staff and efficiently. Prices are very reasonable. Had a nice selection of desserts that are made off site - did not try. No beer / wine / alcohol. Nice locally owned place that you want to succeed! Give it a shot. read more

Overall, we like this place. It's close to our house and convenient, we almost never had to wait to be seated. The food is pretty good, except green beans (side dish). They're absolutely unseasoned and bland. Not sure why, maybe because of the demographic- older folks need to watch for their sodium intake LOL. If you order green beans, you can season them and add butter that sits on the table, and that way they're fine. The Friday special - various combinations of fish and shrimp- have been consistently good and pretty big in size for one person. The last time, it was different - filets were so small, they looked like just scraps that fell off a large piece, plus add all the breading, you ended up with nothing but deep-fried breading. We complained to the waitress, and she said she was aware of that and assumed maybe they went with a different supplier. It was a few months ago, we haven't ordered fish since then. Hopefully they made a note and returned to their original fish dish sizes. The rest of menu is good and tasty (although I'd double check on spaghetti dish- ordered it once awhile back and it was bad, very thin and bland, tasted like a can of tomatoes were poured over noodles). Met a friend here at the crack of dawn at 7am when this place opened for breakfast. The place was clean and warm (heat was on this chilly morning) We sat ourselves since we were the first ones there and there was only one server so early. Our server was friendly and welcoming. I ordered the three egg special sampler over-medium, with two slices of bacon, link sausage and ham. Got the biscuit and gravy too. The food was quickly prepared to order. Eggs were glorious and soft. Bacon crispy, sausage and hand nicely browned. Biscuit was golden brown on the outside and fluffy and soft inside. Sausage gravy was creamy and delicious. I also got a cup of coffee which they kept full the entire time. And price? Not bad. Two full breakfasts and a coffee for $17. This is a great little place to eat. I didn't even know this place existed until today. My father-in-law passed away at 4am, and by 10am, we were all getting a bit hungry. I couldn't bring myself to order fast food in a drive thru, and I found this place on Yelp. This place was hoppin' with a full dining room and several people getting take out. They even have a drive thru pick up window if you call your order in. We tried the sausage, egg and cheese sandwich, a BEC Wrap and two Strawberry Banana Waffles. Everything was excellent. The waffles will put you down for a nap if you eat both by yourself. The sandwich had two eggs, large sausage patty and melted American cheese on a bun. It was hearty and filling. I didn't get any photos, but will certainly be back to dine in. I'm thankful they created a great experience for us on an otherwise sad day. Their service was also very friendly and lifted my spirits when people are genuinely kind even though they don't know what kind of day you're having. read more

Had no idea this place existed but gave it a try and found it to be pretty good soul food. I stopped by on Thursday desiring seafood but found they only offer any of those menu items Fridays only; so I opted for the pork chops which were very good. I was out Friday and tried their flounder and shrimp; this too was very good. Note to staff, there is no seafood restaurant for quite a distance. They wd do very well to offer at least one seafood selection all week to fill that void. They'd make a killing!! read more

Interesting food choices with a southern flair to their cuisine. Excellent flavor and served just at the right temperature for piping hot dishes so we can enjoy our conversations just a bit longer. The decor is a modern style of low country living. Relaxed atmosphere for get togethers with friends and family. The waiters and waitresses can be youngsters at times. They may lack the experience of older professional waiters and waitresses. Kindly offer complaints to help them improve their critique if you find yourselves "put-off" by their service. I've heard good things about this new restaurant so we gave it a try at breakfast. My sausage egg cheese biscuit was excellent (and a good size) and my friend's eggs and pancake were very good.
