Every two months or so, I drive from Phoenix to Houston. Van Horn is pretty much exactly halfway there. On my most recent trip, I arrived close to midnight. The only place open at that time that was close by? Wendy's. We've all been to Wendy's. They're known for their Frostys', square burgers, and Baconator. While all worthy contenders, I went with the crispy chicken sandwich combo with medium fries and a strawberry lemonade. Essentially their version of the Chick-fil-a chicken sandwich, it does come with pickles. Plus lettuce, tomato, and mayo to take things up a notch. While not as flavorful as Chick-fil-a, it was a pretty solid fast food sandwich. The fries were crisp and seemed like they were pretty fresh (rather than sitting under a heat lamp for ages). And the lemonade was some of the best I've had from a fast food joint. I went through the drive-through (attached to the gas station) and everything went smoothly. I paid and got my food quickly. No complaints. While I didn't eat inside, I could see that the ambiance looked like your typical Wendy's. For a late night meal, I'll take it. read more

Food was just ok for a Wendy's, don't think about sitting at a table you would be a a cleaner spot out in the truck parking lot. They do not believe in cleaning the lobby, the drink fountain was not working in properly out of coke zero, and the ice everywhere. Had to wait an extended time to place an order to find no potatos, and no subbing chili for fries in the combos. The lettuce on the burger was shredded and less than when you would find on a McChicken. You u know both shreds. App does not work here or the employees, but they great Mexican music that can be heard from the pilot store. Did not know that was the way Wendy's did things. Service was awful. Went inside, placed an order for fish sandwich and tenders. My mistake, not ordering s hamburger. I gave up on the fish, when the pulled it out after the timer went off and the girl said it wasn't done. Asked for the tenders that were on the counter and they wouldn't have to worry about the refund on the fish since my dog was in the car for an extended amount of time. I'm giving this location two stars mainly because of the service. I waited an unreasonable amount of time just to place my order. I understand there was construction, but it significantly impacted the speed and flow of the entire operation. While the food was what you'd expect from Wendy's, the overall experience was frustrating. It would be a much better customer experience if they had closed temporarily to complete the construction. read more

This is essentially the only place to get takeout in Van Horn at 6pm on a Monday, so you're sort of out of luck if you want anything else, anyway. We fundamentally do not expect wonderful customer service from anyone working fast food retail, so the service does not matter as long as it's broadly polite. They gave us all the food we asked for, it was hot, and it tasted like food. They didn't have apple slices for the kids' menu, but that's not really their fault. read more

After 15 minutes of waiting he comes back and says they do not have any. So I tell him that is the only thing my daughter can eat here so just refund me the money. He starts yelling at me that he will do it in a minute. We wait some more and he finally brings out our potato and in a very condescending voice says I was able to get you one "have a blessed day ". Everything was fine. Clean restaurant. The register was staffed by a new employee so placing an order was a little slow.

This was my first job so long ago we used to have a salad bar and a potato bar. LOL Memories! I really love the chili and the baked potato, and get this on a regular basis. I remember how we made the chili and that makes it taste twice as good in my opinion. I like the hot chili oil too. I miss the salad bar, but they have good salads. I also miss the pickle burger. I'm still holding out hope that they will bring it back. Our store is really clean. The drive through is very efficient. read more

Got food poisoning from here from a chicken sandwich. Was stopping by after a long road trip from California, and it was the only thing I had eaten in two days. I have never been so sick in my life, I was hallucinating! I went back with my receipt and ask for a refund, where the manager himself told me they don't serve bad food and denied me a refund. This was two years ago and I still get mad at how dirty they did me, and the manager was so extremely rude and ignorant. Some bald guy. It's late at night, and the aroma was enticing. Inside the Pilot station, they also have a drive-up window. We ordered both a bacon burger and a chicken sandwich. No sides. Service was fast. Restaurant clean. Note: we bought a plain small patty for our pup traveling with us. Nice option. The reason they lost a star was that they were out of lemonade and baked potatoes. Visited while stopping at the Pilot gas station next door. I was impressed to find lunch and breakfast at 0945. From the lunch menu ordered the Original Chicken Sandwich. The order was ready within 5 minutes regardless of 3 people who ordered in-front of us. Food was warm and tasted good. This town was just a pit stop for us. We got in late and this Wendy's was the only place still serving food. I wasn't excited to go here because the last time I had Wendy's was as a kid and it sucked. We ordered a couple burgers, chili , nuggets and fries and drinks. My burger was the single! Wow! When we walked into the restaurant, it was crowded. There's no problem with that. However, there was no one taking orders. As we stood in line for 15 minutes without having an order taken, it was obvious that as an order was cleared, then and only then would the next one be taken. This way the crew could keep their screens and order "times" down. However, it was incredibly frustrating to stand there and wait as the line grew longer, without any acknowledgement or order being taken. I even asked if they were going to start taking orders and was promptly ignored. It was also pretty obvious there were spending a lot more time serving the drive thru and ignoring customers inside. Food was fine but fries were disgusting due to sitting forever. Poor customer service at it's finest. I feel bad for the 25 plus people in line BEHIND us. We will NOT be back. read more

Absolutely horrible service. I understand it's a small town, but this was so far below expectations. Two big open 24 hours signs in the window, and after waiting 10 minutes a manager finally approached the counter and said they are closed for a bit. Confused because they are supposed to be open 24 hours, I asked when they'll reopen and she said in about 30 minutes. I get it, employees need breaks. Because this is the only food place In town "open" right now, and I have a hungry two year old, i decided to wait. After myself and another customer waited 30 minutes, the manager told a new customer that they will be closed for 30 minutes. When we cut in and said we already waited 30 minutes, she went to the back of the store and had different employee come to the counter and tell us that they don't know when they will open back up. Why couldn't the manager have said that before we waited that long in the first place??? Absolutely terrible, and the management needs a serious upgrade. I have been driving for 14 hours with a cranky toddler. Yeah that's not their problem but some basic halfway decent customer service would go a long way ! read more

I can't put the zero stars as this Wendy's deserves! Even though they have taken precautions during COVID-19 to supposedly sanitize the dining room and requirements of a face mask.That isn't the case at this location. We sat down at a table to wait for our food to be ready and the I instantly noticed the extremely dirty metal bars and wall that divides the tables. This was extremely disappointing, especially for a place that claims to "disinfect and sanitize" their restaurant. My husband asked the cashier about the cleanliness of the facility and she gave a rude response. Better him going up and saying something versus myself.I worked in Customer Service before and the #1 fact remains is that even if the customer might be wrong pe upset-heck they could be yelling.. you still offer an apology and offer assistance. Don't waste your time at this location. I'm sad to say that because it is the only Wendy's outside of El Paso and it should be running at top notch. We stopped in to try Wendy's new breakfast menu. It was so good! Frosty-cino (cold brew with choice of vanilla or chocolate) was amazing! Great way to sweeten my coffee for the morning. Maple Bacon Chicken sandwich was a different spin on breakfast. The hubby loved it!. Bacon, Egg, Cheese Croissant was just the right size. Slower than a herd of turtles. This Wendy's is in the middle of nowhere inside a gas station. I know, I know... what the heck was I thinking? My logic in grabbing something here was that Wendy's is always reliable no matter where it is. My bad. There was a line to place an order, but it went fairly quickly. That was all that was quick.
