Just save 30 minutes of your life and go to subway across the highway. We ordered from the drive through and 30 minutes later, we're finally get to the window. There w only 3 vehicles in front of us. It wouldn't have been so bad if someone would have at least acknowledged the incredibly long wait. But when we got to the window, the employee who looked like the manager based on his uniform, didn't even make eye contact. We sat in front of the window an additional 5 minutes before another employee then came up and gave us the order. No apology for keeping us trapped for so long. To make things even worse... they made one of the sandwiches spicy so it wasn't eaten by the person who ordered it. Terrible customer service. read more

Stopped by on our way thru for a late lunch. Burgers were fresh and fries hot and tasted pretty good. Service was courteous and fast.

HORRIBLE Service!!! Waited at the register for a good 12-15 minutes for someone/ANYone to recognize their customers. It got SO bad that a line formed all the way into the gas station side! STILL, no one acknowledged me (or anyone else) to take our orders. We finally left and went to a place down the street instead. Passing through Van Horn and stopped for diesel at Pilot Travel Center. Wife decided she wanted Wendy's to go. I ordered the famous "Baconator". Only thing is they forgot the BACON. They didn't forget to charge me for it. The wife said her chicken burger was good, plus one star. Minus two star for no bacon on "Baconator", minus one star on the 30 minutes wait for no bacon, the burger was hot and tasty, plus one star. Also stayed one night at the Van Horn RV park and the cafe has excellent food. Breakfast was amazing. read more

TERRIBLE. Get something pre packaged from the gas station and keep moving. Chicken sandwich, jr cheeseburger delux, salad. Chicken sandwich was pink, burger smelled like sour old meat and was missing tomato, mayo, lettuce. Salad - asked for caeser dressing- gave me lemon. Threw most of dinner away. Restaurant pretty dirty. There were some employees eating dinner- speaking really loudly in Spanish and giggling at other customers sitting nearby. Kept walking up and skipping customers to ask her coworkers for something (would literally interrupt the person ordering to ask in Spanish for whatever they wanted). Good thing we're just driving through otherwise I'd call the manager... On the other hand, I think I'll submit a formal complaint to HQ! $14 for compete garbage. read more

Need more help..stood in line for 10 minutes for refreshments....they were more worried about the drive thru..got out line..went into pilot got a extra large drink for $1.89...if you pay attention to detail..of how many patrons are in line..how many registers are open to avoid waiting lines. I read reviews about this Wendy's and was expecting a horrible experience. When we first walked in, the restaurant was well-lt. It's part of a Pilot truck stop and so is very busy. The young man who took our order, Alex, was friendly and even funny. The food was decent and was ready quickly. The place even looked clean enough, so what's everyone's problem? It wasn't until we started to sit down that I noticed how dirty and gummed up the restaurant tables and chairs were. I mean ALL of them. Spills on the seats glistened with the stickiness of dried soda. It was obvious that it was not cleaned on a regular basis. When I asked an employee who was walking through the restaurant to bring me a wet towel, he said that someone was coming out to deal with it. He then touched his "drive-thru" headset and said, "Welcome to Wendy's. may I take your order?" and walked off. I knew at that moment there would be no one coming out to clean--call it a hunch. So after a minute or two, I grabbed some napkins, wet them and scrubbed down the four tables and chairs we needed. When passing through Van Horn I would stop here again--mainly because there aren't any other options--but I will plan on cleaning my own tables. Why do they get 4 stars? You know what you're getting into when you settle on a travel stop fast food joint. But it's still annoying when it takes 15 mins for a burger and fries. Also they were out of ketchup. They did have a Christmas tree so 2 stars it is. read more

This restaurant seems to be a giant 1 star sucking sound in the middle of nowhere....and - based on the reviews - not much seems to have changed over the years. Although some of their faces may have changed, their legacy of suck continues. The main points of frustration for travellers through Van Horn are 1.) lack of any convenient road food choices here 2. ) you usually expect a certain level of quality from just about any Wendy's ( i. e. you really don't expect them to suck) 3.) this current group sucks....but they don't even know they suck so hard. Our story is a pretty typical sucky experience here; We ordered 3 Singles: one regular, one with no mayo and pickles and one with cheese. What we got was 3 Singles with cheese (2 slices each, to boot!) - so my son barely ate half of his, which sucks for him. He didn't want ANY cheese, and they gave him a double dose. This is a point of frustration because workers here intently ask for all your order specifics, so your assumption is that they're going to at least make a minimal effort to deliver what was requested. But at this place...apparently that isn't high on their list of concerns. They are too focussed on sucking really badly to care about what you want. read more

I was hesitant after all the reviews but it was late (10ish pm), super tired, and one of two places open so I gave it a try. Food came out pretty fast and at that time the place was clean. There was even a couple next to us who were waiting for their order and they dropped their lg drink and a worker came immediately to clean it up. The lady told the worker she was very sorry and she kindly replied, "It's ok ma'am, no worries". Every restaurant has its bad day(s). I got a good one. read more

Being truck drivers, my husband and I rely sometimes on these establishments. We've been coming to and passing this place for 5 years and it just gets worse and worse. The service is terrible and so slow. The manager And staff need to be replaced with people who actually care and know how to do their jobs. The only capable one was the guy making the burgers. Even the manager had no clue. I only stopped to walk our dog and decided a burger would be nice and maybe we would have a better experience. But no. Don't bother coming during the day because you will probably wait 45 minutes, like we did today, to even get ordered, much less served. Or at night when we've had them tell us that they have no meat at all. They are all so slow and the food will be cold and soggy when you get it, if you get it. There used to be a cafe next door but they closed. I would suggest going to the next exit to the Love's and the subway (24 hrs) or Lindsey's Cafe across the street open 5:30 am to 11:00 pm, 7 days a week. The food is fabulous and fresh and the service is always fantastic. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Absolutely atrocious. Aside from the fact that it was filthy, the employees are incredibly rude. I ordered a jr burger for my small child and received a cold burger. Not a little cold but actually frigid to the touch. When I took it back and asked for a replacement, the girl who I spoke was actually mad that I asked for a new one. I then proceeded to watch her microwave a party from a tray of premade patties which they were stuffing into burgers. God forbid they actually work at their job. We were here in March 8, they were out of forks, ketchup and other things. Someone ordered a burger that had a special sauce but instead of telling the customer they were out, they were given the burger dry . I ordered a salad and had to use my own fork from the car because they were out. read more

Just avoid Van Horn all together. We settled for Wendy's, because it was pretty much the ONLY food choice for dinner. We waited for 30 minutes in a line of about 8 people. I hear the woman taking drive-through orders ask, "YOU WANT A JOB?!6 PEOPLE DIDN'T SHOW UP TODAY!" Then I better-understood the incredibly slow service, somewhat. But it gets worse. The same lady yells that they're out of chicken nuggets, and down to two baked potatoes. Good thing you didn't run out of something that people order. Like...the chilli. When we got up there the cashier was asking someone else (a guy with a wad of one dollar bills safety pinned to the front of his apron) what change to give a customer. Then, just as I finally ordered my chicken sandwhich, a customer came up with his completely raw chicken sandwich, demanding a refund. So the cashier said, "are you sure you want that sandwich?" So, I promptly changed to a baked potato, not about to eat any of their meat. Out of baked potatoes. FINE, I'll have a large fry (which ended up being a small). My Grandpa ordered a burger and the cashier said, "...you sure?" You KNOW it's bad when the cashier is trying to steer you away from the food. It only took 15 minutes to get our food out after that. At least we got to look at that one male worker's gorgeous curly pony tail. My sister decided she'd stick with a caesar salad, gramps is braving out the #2 combo, & I am having a small fry for dinner...with beef jerky from the attached gas station. & we all have a well-deserved 24 oz beer. read more

I never imagined you could mess up a Wendy's this much. The restaurant had about 10-15 people in it. There were almost that much staff in the back (7-8). They were all scrambling around like crazy. It took well over 30 minutes to get the order. When we did get it, they forgot our fries and a couple of other items, which took another 10 minutes. Fries were cold, chili was watery and tasted terrible. The grilled chicken sandwich and salad were also a huge disappointment. I really didn't think it was possible for a fast food chain to screw up this bad. WOW! read more

After a long morning of traveling and looking for breakfast we came across this Wendy's hoping to satisfy our cravings. We pulled up at 9:53 and listened to the empolyee taking orders have a conversation with the person in front of us until 9:58. Finally, we pulled up to place our order, excited to enjoy a wonderful breakfast meal! After ordering a sausage biscuit meal (which could only be served on artisan bread, since they had no other options) and a sausage burrito, we were then informed that they would no longer serve us breakfast. We asked them what time they stopped serving breakfast and the guy taking my order replied 10. I then asked him what time it was and he replied with "like 10." And we said no it's 9:58. We informed him that since it was not yet ten and he'd already taken our order it would be nice if he just gave us our breakfast food. He informed us the manager was not going to let us order breakfast. We then reversed out of the drive through and unfortunately had to eat at the connected gas station. -4 stars for sucking and making us believe we were going to be rewarded with a nice breakfast meal to get us through the next 10 HOURS OF OUR DRIVE. When I initially looked it Yelp for Van Horn, I saw that McDonald's had three stars and Wendy's had only one. I figured there was no way this could be correct. I figured wrong. This may be one of the most poorly run Wendy's I have ever seen. It took 10 minutes for them to take my order, and another 10 minutes for them to get my food to me. Yes, they were busy, but I have seen other Wendy's serve twice as many customers in half the time. My food was good and was prepared correctly, but I watched two other customers return their food as it had not been prepared as ordered. There was absolutely no sense of urgency from the employees to get the customers served quickly. The restrooms in the Pilot truckstop connected to the Wendy's were nasty. The men's room smelled as if it had not been cleaned in months. This is not an exaggeration. A urine smell like that does not happen overnight. The only reason they get two stars is because my food was prepared correctly, which would not have happened at McDonald's. read more
