The interviewer explicitly told me I had the job and said I would be receiving a text later that day with my onboarding paperwork and W-2 forms. I left under the impression that I was officially hired. After waiting 3-4 days with no text or any communication whatsoever, I called the store myself. I was then told they hadn't hired anyone, which completely contradicted what I had been told during my interview. They gave me the manager's personal phone number and told me to text him directly. I sent him three separate messages over the following days and was ignored every single time. Several days later, I finally received an automated rejection message claiming they had chosen someone whose skills "better aligned with Chipotle." If that was the decision, fine. But don't tell someone they've been hired, promise onboarding paperwork, ignore every attempt to get clarification, and then hide behind an automated rejection message days later. Whether this was incompetence, disorganization, or complete disregard for applicants' time, it's unacceptable. Job seekers deserve honesty and basic communication. This experience was incredibly unprofessional, wasted my time, and completely changed my opinion of this location. This experience completely changed my opinion of Chipotle as a company. After being treated this way throughout the hiring process, I have no interest in supporting a business that shows so little respect for people's time.
