The staff is incredibly friendly (I know that's true of most Chick-fil-A locations, but this one somehow stands out even more), and the restaurant is always clean. They have a free Kids Club with crafts, free kids' meals, and they regularly host fun family events that our kids look forward to. I also have to mention their oatmeal cookies--they're my favorite! And a special shout-out to Daniel Moore, who is always giving out free dessert cards to support local library programs and schools. Service was slow and the food was just okay, but what really bothered me was the way gratuity was handled. I was with a party of eight, and I completely understand an automatic 18% gratuity for larger parties. The problem is that the gratuity was not shown on the paper check we were given before paying. My check showed a total in the $60s. The server then took my card and processed it on the handheld device she was holding. I was presented with the option to select a tip, so I selected 20%, believing I was tipping 20% on the total shown on my paper check. It wasn't until the very end that my total suddenly showed $92. Once several people in our group noticed the same discrepancy, we asked about it and learned that an 18% gratuity had already been added. We had essentially tipped on top of an automatic gratuity without realizing it. To their credit, they refunded the additional tips when we asked. What bothered me most was when we asked why the automatic gratuity wasn't included on the paper check, and our waitress responded, 'because some people don't tip.' An automatic gratuity for a large party is perfectly reasonable, but customers should be clearly told about it and should be able to see their actual total, including the gratuity, before their card is processed and they're prompted to add another tip. Unfortunately, this also wasn't my first uncomfortable experience here. The first time I visited with my family, while we were still eating, a staff member asked if they could take the chair my son was sitting in to use at another table. Yes--he was literally still sitting in it. We were so surprised by the request that we asked for our bill and left. I only returned last night because it was a girls' night and someone else had made the reservation. After this experience, I won't be returning again. If you dine here with a larger party, I would strongly recommend checking whether gratuity has already been added before selecting an additional tip.
