We ate here for dinner after the 500 last year and immediately that night said we'd be back when we came to town this year. And the experience was just as good again. Super friendly staff. We chatted with the hostess for a bit about the other Family of Grindstone restaurants. We started with the short rib poutine. We had it last year and frequently joke we need more than 1. The meat is so tender and there is a good amount of it on the dish. The app has plenty to share for the three of us adults. I also love the added touch of the scallions. For our meals, I had the Jambalaya pasta which was a large serving with plenty of meat, my husband had the tenderloin sandwich (which was massive and the best he said he has ever had on all of his trips to Indy) and our friend had the piggy melt grilled cheese (Mac and cheese and pulled pork!) That sandwich had incredible flavor and I said I'm getting that next time. We ended the meal with bread pudding bites as the photos on here looked delicious and the waitress recommended them. They certainly did not disappoint. The restaurant has a bit of a nicer vibe and there are certainly some people that were there dressed better than us, but it is not a stuffy atmosphere. It was 5 pm on a Friday, and we were doing our best to get ahead of the Mother's Day weekend rush. My mother-in-law (my bonus mom) was with us, and Grindstone on the Monon did not disappoint on ambiance. Beautiful space. Warm feel. Exactly what the evening called for. Our server Jill M was the real story. She greeted us warmly, asked if we had questions about the menu, and when we mentioned my wife has Celiac Disease, she didn't flinch. She walked us through every option carefully and honestly. That kind of attentiveness is rare, and it mattered. Here's the honest part: the kitchen uses a shared fryer, which limits options significantly for anyone with gluten sensitivity or food allergies. My wife made it work, but the choices were thin. For a restaurant at this level, I'd love to see that change. Food allergies aren't going away, and guests who want to celebrate special occasions deserve more than a gluten-free bun as their only path forward. The food was genuinely delicious. Drinks never ran dry. Jill was never far. We all left saying it was a great meal. Four stars, and I mean it. Jill earns five on her own. I'd go back without hesitation. I had a couple local beers and ordered the Indiana Pork Tenderloin Sandwich with Fries. They were both delicious. The pork tenderloin was piping hot, lightly breaded and had a good crunch on the outside and tender meat inside. The fries were perfectly seasoned. This is a great restaurant in Westfield. Lots of room inside and outside, the drinks were well balanced and the old fashioned was delish. They also have XXX root beer in a bottle which is an Indiana must have. Our server was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. That's perfect for my tastes. I had the filet, chicken and Waygu sliders with fries. They were a little salty for me but prepared perfectly. I'd order them again, The kids had butter noodles and macaroni and chez...,pretty standard fare....its not fancified mac and I think almost every kid will love it. We love coming to Grindstone for the outdoor seating with heaters and a dog friendly patio. They even have a fire pit which is really inviting. Normally we visit on a weekday and it's not super crowded. Despite having dinner on a Friday evening our server, Charlie, was extremely attentive yet friendly and genuine. We didn't feel rushed. I had the Cajun Chicken Caesar Wrap with sweet potato fries. My husband ordered the full rack of ribs with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. He said the ribs were 10/10 but the broccoli a bit bland and could use some salt and/or butter. I wanted to like the wrap more but it was mostly lettuce with very little dressing. Next time, I would ask for some on the side and request the fries to be extra crispy. The chicken wasn't really what I had in mind when I think of Cajun. It needed more spice. In a recent trip to Indianapolis we dined at Grindstone on the Monon for dinner and had a pretty good experience overall. The space itself is nice and it was an easy spot to bring our large family group with 4 kids under 4! The food was solid and everyone found something they liked, but I was kind of underwhelmed with the tacos I ordered. Our waitress was so friendly and things moved along at a good pace, which we appreciated. Overall it's a good neighborhood spot with a nice atmosphere, but it didn't quite rise to the level of a place we'd go out of our way for. Still worth a visit if you're in the area, especially if you're staying nearby. read more

Just as good as last time. I really wanted the brine chicken sliders but decided to be good and ordered the Cobb salad and it was filling and delicious. The salad dressing is the perfect amount although my husband who ordered the same thing requested extra dressing. I am not a big nut person but their zucchini bread side was very good. This is a great spot! Kind of hidden in Westfield, although it is right on the Monon! Easy to get to, patio seating and lots of bar seating inside if that is your want. We have been here three times and each time it just gets better. I wish we lived closer as this is a great upscale neighborhood bar. They make a great old fashioned! Anyway, the last time that we were here, they had a malfunction with the drink sprayer thingy (don't ask I have no idea what that is called) and it was stuck so spraying a ton of carbonated water. Staff was great in explaining what was happening and continued to make sure everyone was being taken care of. I know with the issues behind the bar, service was a little slower, but we knew exactly why because they were forefront in letting us know. While this place is a bit far from where we live (approx 2.5 hrs), we would happily drive up there again to enjoy the delightful food and warm and friendly service. This restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas, felt very inviting and had a great selection of American favorites! I was extremely happy with my Beef Manhattan with green beans and exchanged the potatoes for broccoli and was happily surprised with how delicious the entire meal was. My Husband was jealous of my choice after I gave him a bite, even though his was really good (the Cheesesteak sandwich), mine was hands down tastier and more flavorful! I've been to some of the other Clancy's establishments, but this was my first time here. It seemed pretty busy for a Tuesday night. We took seats at the bar. It took a while for the bartender to serve us, which was ok. However. The bubbly rose my g/f order arrived and it was flat. One could easily see it was flat as there were no bubbles. We had to send it back. My old fashioned was decent. The initial of the establishment in the ice cube was a nice touch. We order the fried cheese curds. They came with ranch. They were decent. Went on a Friday night during Devour Indy... it was busy, but we had reservations at 6:30. We waited for a table for 30 minutes, and watched them seat several other parties who walked in after us. Not off to a great start. We ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. Those were decent, but quite bread-heavy and didn't offer a lot of flavor outside the sauce. My entree was the meatloaf... cinnamon syrup of some sort on meatloaf wasn't something I was expecting, but it wasn't bad either. This came with potatoes and green beans - the green beans were the best thing on the plate. My fiancé ordered the steak tacos and enjoyed them, but they weren't really anything to write home about. We also got two drinks - a Paloma and a blackberry jalapeño margarita. The margarita was rather spicy compared to other spicy margs I've had, but tasty. For dessert we ordered the turtle cheesecake. It was good, but again, not super outstanding. While the food itself ranged from mediocre to good, the cadence it was brought out was quicker than expected, which was nice given how hungry we were. We waited maybe ten minutes for our appetizer and about 2 minutes after we finished that, our entrees came out. We took a large group here for dinner mid week and had a nice time. It was very easy to get a reservation for a group of 20, which some local places can not handle. We had a very pleasant waitress ( I am awful at getting names) who did an amazing job keeping up with our needs. The restaurant is in a great location with beautiful views and walk out access to the Monon Trail. We tried the fried green tomatoes and poutine as appetizers. The tomatoes where good, even if we were caught off gaurd by the mix of Parmesan on top and Chipotle ranch as the dip. The group loved the poutine and needed up with a second order of it. The French onion soup was lovely, not too salty and a good tangy cheese, we just wished the bread had more presence. We tried the Jambalaya, Manhattan, cheesesteak, pork tenderloin and turkey burger. The Jambalaya left a fee of us wondering how it got there, it was very fishy and the pasta threw them for a loop (guess they didn't read the description). The Manhattan was ordered by 3 people and they loved it 5 stars. All and all the food was good and not to heavy but for the first time ever our dinner group did not get dessert. read more

They have meatloaf sliders here at Grindstone on the Monon! Honestly, that's why I visited. I'm a meatloaf sandwich fiend, and I'm always in pursuit of the next best meatloaf sandwich. So, if you're a restaurant and you have a meatloaf sandwich on your menu, you will most likely be seeing me at some point. The meatloaf sliders are OK. I think if there was some sort of sauce or gravy on the sandwich, it would have made it a lot better. The slider does come with crispy fried onion strings inside the sandwich, which were great. It just needed a little ... moistness? They offer three other sliders, one of which was a pickle brined fried chicken sandwich, which came with ranch dressing on the side. I really liked this slider a lot, but again, it needed some sort of sauce inside the sandwich. The sauce came on the side, and I dunked the slider into the sauce. Thank goodness for this side-sauce. The fries, though? The fries at Grindstone at the Monon are amazing. They serve the kind of fries that are my favorite fries: slightly breaded in texture, with a crispy bite but also chewy in some places. These are the type of fries that you can just munch on by themselves, ketchup be danged. Like the name suggests, Grindstone on the Monon is located right off of the Monon Trail in Westfield. So you can walk or bike here! There are places to lock up your bike outside near the parking lot. The restaurant itself is pretty big but feels intimate. I was wondering if I should have made a reservation before I visited on a weekend afternoon, but I was seated right away without a reservation. The restaurant has booth and table seating, but also a secluded-feeling bar area, with bar tables that face the TVs, which were showing sports. We recently got take out from here and had amazing service. We were driving in from out of town and it was raining, windy, and basically a storm. We called in our order and pulled up to pick up a large order for two families, one ordered drinks so it was impossible for my husband to carry everything to the car. One of the staff helped him carry the drinks he couldn't hold and came outside with him despite the literal storm happening outside. I dined here with four of my friends at noon on a Saturday. Service was pleasant but slow. We all ordered different entrees and appetizers. I ordered fried green tomatoes for my appetizer, which were excellent. They were my favorite out of all the food that I sampled. I ordered fish and chips, subbing mashed potatoes for the fries. The fish was good, the potatoes were bland. Our pepper shaker was empty. The cole slaw was very good, I would definitely order a side of slaw with any meal here. We were disappointed with the bread pudding we ordered for dessert. It wasn't really bread pudding, just cubes of sweetened brioche served alongside a dish of ice cream topped with pecans and caramel syrup. It was tasty but not what we expected when we ordered bread pudding. The booths are large and comfortable, a nice place for a relaxed meal. Good easy button option for safe food, nothing exciting but a good option with a group of people.

This is our go-to for good reason - the salmon salad is outrageously excellent! How can you argue with grilled asparagus, flaky blackened fish and a freshly-cut slice of zucchini bread, and feel like a health nut while eating it? Calories saved which I usually burn up with a glass of red from their nice wine selection. It can get a bit loud due to the size of the restaurant but we've never struggled with the conversation. Been here a couple of time and never been disappointed. Today was no different. Except it was even better. Hubs and I sat at the bar and had the great honor to meet Anna the bartender. She was attentive yet didn't hover, knowledgeable, gave perfect advice on menu items, and pleasant to talk to. The manager stopped by to check in, but not that "Doing okay? Good." and running off, kind of check in. He struck up an honest, natural conversation and was genuinely happy to have us. My Hoosier Hotplate, and Hubs' pork nachos, were D-Licious!
