We made a reservation which I highly recommend because we got seated in one of the booths. Fair warning that cancellations for reservations are $20/person so make sure you keep your date! The restaurant is very sophisticated with great ambiance. The music was not too loud so you can sit comfortably and talk while enjoying a great meal. The lighting was dim and great for a romantic dinner. The waiter was very attentive while giving us ample space for us to enjoy our meal at our own pace. Everyone welcomed us with a friendly demeanor and made us feel well taken care of. We got the weso melted cheese to start off with and it was delicious; the perfect size for a party of two. The Porterhouse steak was perfectly cooked and highly recommended by my carnivorous boyfriend. As for me, I got the roasted airline chicken breast which was surprisingly tender, juicy and well seasoned. It is rare that I finish an entire meal off my plate but this was the perfect portion for someone with a smaller appetite and taste-wise, an irresistible dish. We ended our night with the flan which you can't go wrong with! Overall, I am highly impressed by the romantic and comfortable atmosphere of the restaurant, the amazing service, and most of all the delectable dishes. Unfortunately my salmon was incredibly dry and over cooked. I was very sad my main dish was not good at all. Salmon should not be so dry and overvooked! It was so dry with zero juices. Amazing place a great insightful location located down off of Mesa Street: a great place to bring great friends to talk and to find a cozy conversation. Amazing steaks many to choose from even a machete looking steak, so big I think they call it a tomahawk it's the best I've had. I recommend this place if you want to do business have a deep, quiet, relationship conversation, and good deep, sincere conversations you can come here for sure . I originally had reservations to Ruth's Chris, but decided to switch it up last minute and try something new. Reservations were easy using Opentable. After reading the Yelp reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, and glad reading the reviews didn't stop me from trying this place out. Service was wonderful, everyone was attentive and nice, but not overly bugging. The roasted cauliflower is a must!! perfectly seasoned, crunchy yet soft and oh so delicious. My Mom and I had the salmon and it was also cooked to perfection, moist, loved the crisp edges- I was not a fan of the hibiscus sauce, but that's a personal issue, lol. I also had a side of mashed potatoes, they were alright, nothing to rave about. Listen, if your not in the mood to cook and you want to eat out at a nicer than usual spot, definitely try this spot, easy parking, friendly staff, chill ambiance, good selection for dinner and we'll priced. I'm not certain exactly when Weso Steakhouse opened, but according to the El Paso Times, Weso opened in June 2022. I suspect not, but could be wrong. If Weso was actually open in June, it was the softest soft opening in the history of soft openings. Indeed, although I had heard about a steakhouse opening in the summer in WestStar Tower, I hadn't heard from anyone I know that it was actually open until very recently--nor had I heard the name or seen the signage until recently. I also knew that that Weso was the creation of Juan Carlos Orrantia, owner of Corralito's the popular Mexican-style steakhouse on Doniphan Drive and Kern Place in west El Paso. The Times story published June 24, 2022 confirmed this. I was hoping that Weso would not be a "Corralito's copy," as its concept is great, but along with knock-offs, notably Victoria's Mexican Grille in Canutillo, El Paso's west side doesn't need another Corralitos-style steakhouse. It was a relief to discover Weso is a more elevated steakhouse and heavy on ambience. Contrary to the El Paso Times story, Weso is not the second steakhouse in downtown El Paso. I think the owner of Anson 11 might argue the point, as it is (or at least WAS also) an elevated steakhouse concept on its second level that I enjoyed very much. The Times story references 1700, the excellent steakhouse in the Paso del Norte Hotel a few blocks south of WestStar Tower. My first observation was how reasonable the prices are at Weso, given the investment in the finish out of the space, its menu, and I'm sure, the rent. Given inflationary pressure on restaurants, notably in labor and food costs, it is mind-blowing to find a 10-oz bone-in filet mignon for $39.99. A friend of mine who owns a well-established restaurant in southern New Mexico recently pulled the filet mignon off the menu, temporarily I hope, citing THEIR cost of filet was GREATER than $39.99! Weso is not without a strong Mexican influence. There are a few menu items that are decidedly and thankfully, Mexican-if not Latin-influenced. The lamb barbacoa, grilled provoleta, empanadas, tropical ceviche, churros, and flan are prime examples. Accompaniments are also Mexican/Latin-themed, including mole, torreados, and chimichuri. The proveleta was delicious, served in a cast-iron skillet with a slice of mild red pepper and drizzled with olive oil. The ceviche was also delicious, but I would have preferred it to be served with tostada chips. If you're not into the Latin scene, and looking for more classic American steakhouse items, minus the seafood, you're still at the right place. Unfortunately, you won't find lobster, crab, or oysters on the menu, but Weso does serve fried whole black bass, salmon, and halibut. The only shellfish I found on the menu was shrimp flambe. The menu also boasts a steakhouse staple, macaroni and cheese with "secret cheese sauce". Sorry I can't give up the secret, I didn't order it. I'm happy to see another upscale addition to the downtown landscape, and another beef- and fish-centric option in El Paso. As a fan of 1700, Ruth's Chris, Garufa, and Cafe Central, Weso is a welcome addition. Competition is heating up in a difficult operating environment. I hope it's not too much competition for all the players to thrive. read more

Decided to try WESO for the first time for my birthday dinner and wish I had selected somewhere else. Our experience was horrible as soon as we were seated and went down hill from there. It took about 5 minutes after being seated to have water poured, and not by our waiter. We were told he would be right over. 15 minutes later, still no one came by. We asked the hostess who our waiter was, to which she was surprised he still hadn't come over. Finally, he comes to the table and the first thing he says to us is "Are you guys ready?" I was baffled! There was no greeting us, no "Welcome to Weso. My name is ___. Sorry for the wait!" He didn't even ask if we wanted to order drinks other than the water we already had. He didn't ask if we were first time diners, didn't offer to place our appetizers first. Didn't ask if we had any questions regarding the menu. none of that. We were all so hungry, we ordered everything all at once. This man was very rude and it felt like we were bothering him by being there with the way he acted! Never came by to check on us during our meal either. The food was very subpar. I get it, this is a steakhouse, and none of us ordered a steak. But if you're going to offer other dishes on the menu, I would think you should also deliver the same quality as you would a steak dish. The sea bass I ordered was very dry and overcooked. The only good thing about my meal was my drink, which was the Prickley Pear Martini. One of my friends does not drink alcohol and she asked if they had any mocktails. Waiter said any specialty drink can be virgin, but failed to mention it would be charged the same as if it had alcohol. Normal mocktails are charged at a lesser price due to no alcohol. On top of that, she was also charged the alcohol tax on her bill! Apparently, our waiter decided we needed to speak to a manager, which we did not request. She was apologetic and offered a gift card to return. I declined. Lesson learned, we will not be returning. read more

I love Weso steakhouse! It's one of my favorite places to eat in El Paso. The food is consistently good and the service is wonderful. My family and I had a late weekend lunch there and we were very satisfied. The restaurant has a cozy and elegant atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive. They greeted us warmly and seated us promptly. They checked on us regularly and made sure we had everything we needed. My dad had the salmon, which was moist and flavorful. He said it was the best salmon he ever had. I had the ribeye steak milanese, which was tender and juicy. It came with mashed potatoes, which were delicious. We also shared some appetizers and desserts. We had the huatlcoche empanadas, which were rich and crisp. For dessert, we had the churros, which were delicious. We left the restaurant feeling full and happy. We can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Weso steakhouse is a gem in El Paso and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves good food and good service. read more

I'm going to have to say that the place had the best atmosphere ever! Unfortunately, the staff is not to considerate and takes a very long time to bring drinks. They ran out of ny steak three of us had ordered. They offered to sell us the 94 dollar tomahawk lol we passed. We settled for the Milanesa which was dry and no where near quality. Our company was perfect and that's basically what we had to settle for. Maybe next time we go we take our own steak in case a steak house runs out of steaks. read more

So...I have mixed reviews on this place. Ambiance was amazing. I came with my husband for our anniversary. Our waiter was outstanding. Incredibly nice and attentive. He made our night special. Now where I had issues: the food. The baked cheese was delicious. We had it with mushrooms and the homemade tortillas. My husband ordered the porterhouse which he enjoyed thoroughly. I had the salmon and I ordered the beet salad. The salmon was fine. The kale beet salad however was interesting. When I first received it, I noticed there was a beetle staring at me. Now grant it, it was an outside beetle but nevertheless it was sitting on my bed of kale. So I asked for another one. The second one I received tasted like the kale was brined. I'm telling you the kale was bathed in a salt bath. The waiter had to refill my water 4+ times since I had received it. I have never had a salad so salty in my life. And I know it wasn't the salmon because I hardly ate the salmon. All in all it was nice, but I think I'll just stick to steak next time. read more

Ambiance and service were very good. I had the tomahawk steak and my wife had the pastor arrachera tacos. We shared a tuna shashimi. The sashimi was good and my wife really enjoyed her tacos. The ribeye was a bit on the dry side, so I was underwhelmed. This might be due to the size of the cut, or the fact I asked for it rare, either way I would not get it again. I was also a bit disappointed in their beer selection, though I'm sure wine drinkers will have more to choose from. The theme was great; our group was so excited to come celebrate a birthday, it was all of our first time eating here, unfortunately the service was atrocious. We waited 26 mins to be greeted and get water. The server didn't introduce himself and only asked if we were ready to order everything. We were charged extra for the tortillas for our app. $14 for a mocktail as well as alcoholic beverage tax. Chilean sea bass was hard as a rock. The server came by twice in the two hours we were there and was argumentative, short and rude at every question we had. He took it upon himself to bring the "manager" who was only at the host stand for the majority of the time we saw her and who purposely kept mispronouncing his name when we asked (Hudson, hexson?) . We refused gift cards and discounts as we have zero interest in ever coming back. Be prepared to be nickeled and dimed. We had been looking forward to coming to this place since it was a branch of Corralitos. It is certainly upscale from Corralitos and the menu is upscale. We had the tacos which were tasty and but they were already out of salmon. Sea bass was offered but over priced for what you got. The empanadas were fine as the queso appetizers. We tried the Brussel sprouts which were tough and dry . The asparagus was really big and thick but seemed tender . Nothing special , though. It took a long time to get the food and somewhat disorganized. Then the bill comes and they add a 3% surcharge for credit cards! I haven't seen that it in a long time. I don't think we will go there again. Not worth parking in the garage and walking outside and then rather mediocre food for the price. There are other better choices. read more

Weso books and confirmed a reservation Nov 16 for my family of 12. They have called several times since then to confirm my reservation and menu. I confirmed every single time by phone and text. Today 12/15 I am notified that there's a "management change " and my reservation menu has changed. Minimum charge will be $110 per person. New management is off to a great start. We went for the Valentine's Day dinner which was $75 per person and a total scam. It's a 4 course meal and the lady on the phone said that it comes with 3 different entrees for the main course (not just a choice of one). When we get there they tell us that it is a shared 4-course meal although it's $75 per person which doesn't make any sense. The second appetizer was literally salad and fruit lol and both appetizers and the desert were "shared". I chose the filet mignon entree (which they overcooked to well-done) and she got the lamb entree which was 2 really really small lamb chops. The food tasted pretty good but the portions weren't large by any means. The ambiance was just okay and it took a long time for the server to tend to us with simple things like giving us utensils to eat or refilling water. My husband made reservations for us last night since we've been wanting to try this place out. The first issue was with the cancelation policy. Getting charged $25 per guest for canceling within 48 hours of reservation is ridiculous. Since we made the reservation that same evening, we just overlooked it. When we got to the restaurant, we got seated, there were only 3 tables up front and ours. It took 2 waitresses asking if we had been helped before ours came. We got our drinks and appetizer, which was the marrow duo. That was probably the best part of the night. We then ordered our main entrée. 1 hour later, the waitress came to tell us that there was an issue with our order. It got mixed up with a bar order and never got placed. She said she spoke to a manager to see what they could do, and she apologized for the wait. Not even 5 minutes later, our food came out. I ordered a NY strip bone in, and my husband ordered the 20 oz. Porter house. The steaks were ok. The asparagus were tough and still had the stalks. The mac and cheese was cold, and the "creamy" mashed potatoes were not it at all. The waitress came and asked if we wanted dessert, but we just asked for the check. When we got the check, I asked her about the mishap with our food, and she stated she spoke with the manager and they were going to offer a free dessert but they had magically ran out, even though she had just asked us if we wanted dessert 5 minutes prior. The manager never came to our table, in fact, passed by 3 times avoiding eye contact. The topper was the 3% charge for using a credit/debit card to pay for our dinner instead of using cash. Don't forget to read the fine print at the bottom of the receipt! There's better fine dining establishments in El Paso. read more

I was recommended this place from a family member. I wanted to treat a friend out to a birthday dinner last night, and the staff is unprofessional. When I booked my reservation online, I made sure to note to bring out a candle lit birthday desert. Some time during dinner I remind the waiter who's birthday it is for the cake and she tells me the complimentary birthday cake is out and I'd have to choose another cake and that I'd be charged but she'll see what she can do. I went back to the table to join everyone else, and through our dinner, this food runner was acting like he was in a club during the rush, saying things like, "Hell yeah! This shit don't stop boy!!" each time he passed our table. It was disruptive, and the music was already too loud. The food was not upscale quality, and they cornered us next to the wine storage where their wine selections were basic. Not the kind of wines you can choose from for proper pairings in a steak house. The waiter then comes by and makes it all obvious in front of the table that the guys in the kitchen said no to the complimentary desert for my friends birthday, and it'd be added to the bill. You don't do that....and really? You couldn't throw in a desert, yet everybody else in the restaurant got a complimentary birthday cake to their loved ones? Mind you, those are frozen desserts that they serve in there. There is no sense of mannerism to a supposedly fine dining facility and carries a very scammy behavior. Anyway, I got my girl and of course treat her to her birthday cake and then the waiter still comes out and complained about lighting up the birthday candle that they charged me with in front of my guests. It was an awkward experience. Not going here again and did not tip well for her service nor the staffs unprofessionalism but of course they get away with it and charged me 3% of my bill because they don't adjust tip to what you want to give for poor service. Don't go here! Go anywhere else but here. My husband and I decided to try this place out for date night. We sat at the bar and the service was okay. We ordered drinks, appetizers and our main meals. The issue was that we waited an hour and twenty minutes for our meal. I ordered the mole plate and he ordered back of lamb. We got no apology or no follow up by any of the managers. Our server just kept saying that the kitchen was backed up. One of the managers was too caught up with the World Series and didn't bother to acknowledge our existence. We asked for our food to go. When we got home they totally gave us a different plate than the mole I had ordered.
