Have taken my daughters here for eye exams in the past from the old location across the street to the new one which is beautifully done. My age is catching up with me and finally decided to get an eye exam. You can book an appointment online but I called in and got a slot a few days later. Think there are 3-4 doctors working here and they have nice facilities and equipment to make the experience painless. Confirmed need progressive lens and while waiting for the glaucoma test browsed around the store for frames. I think it was so nice inside I thought it would all be overpriced but was pleased to find frames and lenses in my budget that worked out better than chain places I have gone in the past like LensCrafters. Sales people were not pushy at all and totally got what I was looking for, something a little trendier than what I have now but not too 'out there'. A friend recommended this place as it had been awhile since my eyes were checked. There were about 4 doctors. I had no problem getting an appointment and I did book online. It seemed pricey compared to my previous place but the exam was very thorough and included extras which I paid for separately at my previous place. The sales person was so helpful for picking out my two pairs of glasses. Had great advice for me and knew what she was talking about. Another plus was they put it through my extended health plan immediately as opposed to me having to pay and be reimbursed. read more

A long over-due update for my super loyal optometry clinic. I started going here when I was a UBC student (yay extended health), and still find myself going back years later. A few months back I had to get my eyes re-checked as it had been a couple of years. This was about the same time that I saw a massive sale on "Internet glasses" on that website pimped out by that retired Canuck. So... I wandered on into West 10th and got my eyes checked, and sure enough I needed a change to my prescription. However, when faced with blindly buying a whole new pair online, or just getting another lens for my wicked snazzy glasses from these guys, I thankfully chose the latter. I love my glasses. They rock. And I love West 10th. They treat their loyal clients with equal loyalty and respect. read more

After having a small corrective surgery I experienced severe irritation in one eye. In desperation I called West 10th Eyes - my regular eye testing & health optometrists to ask for help. The reception ladies were so concerned & caring and although the clinic was booked were able to fit me in to see Dr Baker. He inserted a bandage lens which protected my eye & allowed it to begin to heal. After returning each day so that my eye & lens could be checked the lens was removed & is now healing. All the Doctors were so concerned & helpful but I must give a special thank you to Dr Baker & Dr Cullis. I will always be so grateful for the care & wonderful treatment I received. I needed an annual eye checkup and happened to notice this store, so I walked in and got an appointment for the exam. The experience was pleasant but rushed, then I got the bill: I was shocked to see that it totalled $356 ($197 for the exam and $159 to try a few contact lens samples.) Thinking the bill must have been a mistake, I called the store and was told that the price was set by the owner. I requested a call back from the manager, but no one ever called me. If you want the same service with a reasonable price, there are many good optometrists on west side that only charge about half the price. The store I went last year only charges $55 for a "contact lens fitting." W.10th Eyes is way overpriced and out of line. I will not go back. read more

You have to understand. I love glasses. Once you take care of the whole "seeing" thing, finding nice comfortable and fashionable frames is really important to me. I don't like contacts (putting stuff directly on my eyes feel like I have an elephant sitting on my eyeballs). I hardly find good glasses especially with this trend of $20 glasses from on-line stores with awkward web cam fittings. To find West 10th Eyes was really a godsend. My wife came home with her frames one day and I was jealous of the pair they helped her pick. So let me say, the eye exam was not a big deal at all and once that was done. Everyone else was so friendly and helpful. The selection of glasses is top notch. I went into the store without knowing what glasses I wanted which is always a challenge for people. These folks are the best! I moved to Vancouver in 2010 and went to another optometrist before finding this place. I was having some issues with my vision, and the previous optometrist missed the problem. At my first visit with Dr. Cindy Wagner, she quickly figured out what the problem was and suggested ways to help manage it. She is super thorough and nice but also very efficient. The entire staff here are great and really go out of their way to help. Recently I found myself needing another pair of glasses asap and everyone from the receptionist to the optician to Dr. Wagner helped me within minutes of my phone call to the office. When I got there, they even offered me a discount on my glasses because I had recently purchased another pair of glasses there (even though I think this is normally for people who purchase two pairs at the same time and I did not ask for the discount). Dr. Wagner also volunteers with nonprofit organizations providing eye care in other countries and training guide dogs, which I think speaks volumes about her. Last, they have a great selection of frames and a very nice, clean, modern, well-staffed office. I have never felt any pressure to buy anything and I completely trust everyone there. This is the best health care team of any kind I have found since moving to Vancouver. Highly recommended! read more

This is the BEST place to go for expert Optometrists, eyewear and staff! I am so thankful for the 2 Doctors here who have done my eye exams, identified my reader distance required, and high level of staff knowledge re: fitting and sunglasses. Everyone is so professional and have the highest level of knowledge. The group at West 10th eyes have been my family's optometrist for years and we look forward to many more years of great service and terrific value. Luckily, to date, I have really good vision but I get my check ups there and nowhere else. Both of my folks need glasses and are really pleased with the friendly service and thorough eye care they receive from West 10th. I am not really a person with a mug best suited for glasses/shades so when I needed sunglasses I headed over to West 10th. The sales person took lots of time and helped me pick out the best sunglasses for the shape of my face; it was as actually a really fun process and I came away with shades I really enjoy and use. Solid 3.5 stars. With the friendly service from Elia, while clearly kicking tires here, she was still quite helpful with offering some styles. Cozy, nice store, doesn't feel like a mall. And certainly not high-pressure at all like those Robson ones, if you know what I mean lol, at least they don't wear white lab coats here. They've got some good designer names such as Klik and Oga, a Swedish designer. As to be expected, it does sound higher-end but did have a sale back a few months ago. Amex accepted. read more

I phoned on a Friday afternoon after a class because I was having trouble seeing the overheads in class for quite some time. I was booked into an appointment immediately. In 30 minutes, I was at West 10th Eyes getting my eyes examined. I'd say it was the most extensive and thorough eye exam I've had (and I had LASIK about 10 years ago). On top of that Dr. Jessica Cullis is very friendly as well as the rest of the staff. Also, if they have the frames you want in stock, they will likely be ready the following business day. BONUS: If you are student (at least at UBC), it's a great place to go. I got $175 student discount on the exam and purchase of glasses, that's not including the coverage from the default AMS student plan, which will be another $125. read more

I just had to return to this store to have my prescription rechecked because after having 2 pairs of glasses made up in that prescription, the distance is off. Indeed, the optometrist said the original prescription was incorrect. She tried to cover it up by stating that it had been 8-9 months since the prescription was written when, in fact, it was only just only 6 months and a few days. The problem with optometrists, including this one, is that during the exam they don't tell you what to look for in the text that you are seeing. They're always in a rush. On the second trip, she said she would look at my older glasses and prescription after the test but after the test she guided me right to the receptionist/cashier and welcomed a waiting customer into her office. Then the cashier/receptionist tried to charge me for the appointment although the optometrist had told me that there would be no charge. So both pairs of lenses will have to be remade by the optician. The optometrist's shoddy testing will cost the optician, the lens manufacturer, and me in time, money, and effort. I am rightfully peeved. Everyone loses out except West 10th Eyes. And the optometrist's attitude was haughty and arrogant. I didn't like it there on my first appointment and my second was no better. Then the optometrist asked me why I didn't buy my frames there and I said because she didn't have the style I wanted. They didn't, but two of the reasons were because her frames are much more expensive than the same frames are elsewhere and I didn't like their idea of customer service. read more

I visited West 10th Eyes to get an adjustment and repair of my precious, nearly vintage Raybans. I needed new nosepads and an adjustment to make the glasses fit comfortably. The optometrist installed new soft silicone pads that are much better than the originals, and adjusted the glasses to fit me perfectly FOR NO CHARGE. That's right I did not pay a dime for the pads or the service. I have also purchased sunglasses and the service was impeccable. The optometrist made sure the frames were right for my face. I was not charged any tax because the clinic provides medical services. The sunglasses (non-prescription) are Zeal, are beautiful and half the price I spent at Sunglass Hut. They are also far better quality than the Arnettes I purchased at Sunglass Hut. Thanks, you have a patron for life! P.S. Prices at this store range from moderate to high end. The ambiance is okay. I just recently had lasik, however, came in here a few months prior 'cause I was strongly considering not going through with it if I were to get some Frames that were decent and didn't make me feel like the girlfriend in Revenge of the Nerds. The lady who was helping me was super nice and sweet, however, I wasn't happy with the frames. It was nothing personal on them but maybe my insecurity with glasses in general. We moved to this area of Vancouver 3 years ago. In our family we all need glasses or contacts - that's my wife, our two daughters and myself. Initially, service was OK, maybe a little rushed. They do seem to have state of the art equipment there, at least as far as I can tell. We were reasonably pleased - until we did some price checking! Turns out not only are their prices for glasses and contacts way higher than on-line, they are even significantly higher than what you pay at Point Grey Eye-care just two blocks up the road. And yes, they have student discounts, but so has any other place and these guys are still more expensive. But here's the kicker: I scratched my glasses and decided to get new ones from coastalcontacts.com (same company as clearlycontacts.com, only in the US. They ship to Canada, bill in USD, but are almost always a lot cheaper than their Canadian counterpart - make sure you google for coupon codes!). I noticed my glasses prescription from them did not include the pupil distance, which I needed to order on-line. I went over there and asked if they could pull it out of their system. Answer: nope, they only do that if you buy glasses from them. I asked if they would do it as a courtesy, given that my whole family has been going to their place for three years. The receptionist checked with one of the doctors - again: nope! Heck, I even would have paid a small fee - this is something that shouldn't take them more than 30 seconds. I calmly told them that they just lost 4 customers and walked out. I can only recommend this place if you don't care about money and don't mind buying everything from them. And luckily I later found my pupil distance on an older prescription from another place... :-) read more

I had my exam done elsewhere, but I have a huge head and an oddly shaped nose, and most frames just don't fit me. There wasn't much in the other place that would work for me, so I checked out a few other places. West 10th had hands down the best service of the bunch, and also had one of the better selections. I shopped around a lot, and checked out quite a few places around town, but I liked the frames (and service) and West 10th the most. I got busy with school and forgot about glasses for a while, but when I finally came back today they kind of remembered me and offered really amazing service. Before selling me the frames they double checked the prescription (so, I sort of got a 2nd eye exam for free) and they found that I actually needed slightly stronger lenses than my prescription indicated. They have a smoking student discount, awesome selection and awesome service. I had a great experience buying glasses here. read more
