I've bid on several lots and multiple dates most with no problems but the latest one required that I travel 180 mile to pick up the lots that I won. After arriving I was informed that the most valuable lot that I had won was removed because of damages it was faucets and they were unopened so I question the damage then I was told they were missing. Only their employees have access to the items so they remove items that they want after you win them and just refund you this is theft of your items made to pay immediately. I will avoid any more purchases from them and know that they have a shady operation!!! read more

Looking for a deal? West Auctions is the wrong place. Years ago you could find some used tools at half the price but it's a different story in 2023. Items start at $5 and shoot up to 60%-75% of the new retail value before the bidding closes. Paying $60 for a $100 board is a deal...not so fast. Then you pay their premium of 15% and tax of 10%. After adding in 25% ($15) your paying $75. Now you have to get that board. West Auctions is located in Woodland Ca. but pick-up locations are usually where the seller was located which means anywhere from Cresent City to San Diego so, add in some transportation cost. $75+ You must remove the item you won by appointment during a 3-4 day window they provide. If you fail to remove the item...you lose. All items won are immediately charged to the required credit card seconds after the auction closed, so it was yours, then you abandoned it, and then, it's not yours? So adding in the risk of loss, new cost $75++. You jumped through the hoops...you have a truck to transport from the location on the appointment day and time. And when you are finally united with the $100 board that cost you $75++ be prepared for the letdown...no matter how clean, straight, knot-free, or wet that board looked when you 20x magnified the auction photo to count the grains in the wood it will be as close to reality as a Tinder profile. That $75++ board that cannot be returned or exchanged could be dry, cracked, bowed, or twisted with termites and you have no recourse. Real cost $75++(+!) (Dollar amont+ transportation cost +restricted deadline (+!) questionable condition and quality. A $100 board from Home Depot/Lowes is the only deal in this scenario. Unlike Tinder, there is no escaping through a bathroom window. Everything is sold as is, and it is yours. They strongly encourage buyers to preview the items on the viewing day and you should. Everyone thinking about buying ANYTHING through West Auctions needs to see the item up close before it is theirs, the x hour drive to the middle of nowhere will cost less than the disposal fee for your winning item. My last "win" was a pallet of 34 pressure-treated 4x4s in addition to having moss and mold growing on the wood there were only 33 of them. Craig from West Auctions just shrugged and said I miss counted. That did it for me, the downward spiral of West Auctions hit rock bottom with employees so incompetent and rude they cannot perform the skills of a toddler. We've participated in several auctions with this company spending thousands of $$. Recently they had a tenant abandonment auction in which some electronic equipment, commercial refrigeration, was available. We got it home and it is completly dead. I contacted the company and this was their response. "No items have been tested for working condition by West Auctions. Bidders or their Agents are responsible for ensuring they received all their items. No claims of any kind shall be alloweda after the item has been removed by the Buyer or item has been signed for after time of removal." So basically they allow anyone to sell any equipment in any condition in their auction, any total complete piece of broken junk is fair game for them to make 15% on. They literally have no integrity and do not care if their customers are sold junk. All other auction companies I have ever purchased from, and I have purchased a lot from different auction houses, all make earnest attempts to notify bidders of the condition of the equipment and of it is in working condition or not, or if it hasn't been tested. Beware folks. This company tests NOTHING and doesn't care if their bidders are sold broken junk! read more

First time bidding on their site. After winning an exciting lot, I bid on another because I knew I had to go pick up the first one. Long story short, drove 45 minutes to pick up at the end of the day. When I arrived the removal person couldn't find all items in my exciting lot. Of course they were the items I really wanted, and obviously someone else did too. How could items that were photographed, not stay with the lot number? The removal person, refunded my money for the exciting lot, but that doesn't make up for the 1 1/2 hour drive, or the extra $$ I wouldn't have spent had I not won in the first lot. Be careful with what this auction house sells. They just had a wood slab sale, walnut, maple, redwood etc. the wood was in very poor shape, sun damaged and warped. The slabs were stored outside and not stored flat causing warpage. They wetted the slabs prior to photographing making them look better for the auction catalog. My mistake I should have previewed the auction however they should have disclosed the slabs poor condition in the descriptions. Thus is very unscrupulous business practice, Not a good way to instill customer loyalty. read more

Like James posting I too was tricked into thinking that West Coast Auctions would have enough integrity to simply be honest enough to simply post an accurate descriptions as to the condition of the wood slabs they were selling but unfortunately that was not the case and the piece of wood I purchased was so old and warped that there is no way I could use it for its intended purpose and in fact I'm not sure if there is anyway to repurpose it for anything. Friendly staff and always quick to respond with answers to my questions. It's a good system online, however the website is NOT mobile friendly for bidding from your mobile device. I was trying to bid from my phone and it wouldn't acknowledge me accepting their terms, which is required to place a bid on any item. When bidding online and from an auction the expectation is for it to be legit and credible and west auctions is not that. To make a long story short, I was bidding on a truck and noticed another bidder was bidding aggressive and driving the price of the vehicle up. I figured the other bidder must really want it (or the auction has inside people bidding up the price) so I let it go. The other bidder wins and just so happens to not pay for the vehicle. Very interesting. They then call me since I was the other bidder and ask me if I want to buy the car for the price that the other bidder who failed to pay for the vehicle won the bid for. I say no because the price was too high and make a fair offer of what I would pay since it was just me and the other bidder. Mind you the auction says all vehicles must go no matter the price because there was no reserve. They then decide they don't want to sell the car after all. This is a po-dunk auction house with no depth and a LOUSY online auction system. Our case will likely end up in small claims court as there were possibly some violations of the law. We professionally bid on auctions on a daily basis. We contacted the Auction company to confirm if their auctions are a Hard Close, or Soft Close format. We are told they are a Hard Close format. We inquire if there system can handle bids in the last seconds, we are assured yes. (In hard close auctions this is the industry standard.) Later in the day..... 10 seconds prior to auction close we place our highest proxy bid. The system notifies us that we are the High Bidder, and the auction has closed. 2 seconds later the screen flashes that we have been outbid and the auction is closed. Here is the problem: The winning bidder placed their bid (time stamped in their system) PRIOR to our bid. Their system shows that both of the bids were FOR THE SAME AMOUNT. And the final fun is they awarded the auction to a bidder that placed their bid PRIOR to our bid and for OVER 50% less than OUR PROXY BID! The timing, bids, and result are physically impossible to happen. We contacted the company immediately via fax, email, and phone contesting the awarding of the bid. Customer service admits on the phone that yes our bid was the latest bid placed, that it was a proxy bid, and they needed to figure out what was going on. After numerous calls, we are told they are going to re-run the auction. WHY? They have the time stamped bids. Their system crashed, but they have the information to make the correct award. In talking with management they tell me they are going to re-run the auction. ONLY after I very vocally object do they agree to re-run the auction and only allow the original bidders to bid again. Off to the races the second time. We have the bid at about the same range as the first auction, up until the last seconds when wonders of wonder a NEW BIDDER places a bid for $50 less than our max Proxy from the first auction. The auction price rockets over 100%. What a coincidence..... So step back, cool down, we will deal with the flawed auction system later. We pay for the lot and schedule a transport for pickup. We inspected the lot the day before second auction just to make sure we were still interested. All was as photographed, expected. We win the 2nd auction, pay in full and coordinate a heavy equipment transport for removal. We arrive to pickup and find the windows have been beaten out of the vehicle, lights broken out, mirror bracket torn off. These are specialty heated windshields on a very rare piece of equipment. I get the sight manager who explains to me it is COMMON for ex-employees and loosing bidders to destroy the items after the auction. I can understand as they made no effort to protect what they had sold us leaving it on a public roadway with access to the general public. Site manager says they can only adjust $650 for the $2000+ worth of damage. We already have $1000 in heavy transport costs sitting waiting to load. We take the vandalized lot... Bottom Line - An auction system that cannot handle bids properly. A company that is not willing to do the right thing. VERY QUESTIONABLE bidding (Can you pronounce Shill?) They did not make any effort to safeguard the goods they were selling after they sold them, and after all of that, were not willing to make an equitable resolution to the damage that could have been easily prevented. Fantastic company who strives real hard to serve customers and clients. They help you load when they can and make the buying process as fluid as possible. Best to have an appointment and proper vehicle/trailer when you pick up to expedite retrieval of won items otherwise you wait for them to gather once you arrive instead of beforehand. I bid on a limited edition signed piece of art and paid for it. When I went to collect it, they gave me an excuse that their server had been down and added listings that were not there. They promised to credit me the money I had spent. I got the print for a fabulous price. After your bid has been accepted you are the legal owner of the property. The story about the server was completely bogus. They must have sold it to a dealer for a much better price. At any rate, no matter that, it was legally my property, and they need to get one for me. These prints are for sale and they should have to buy me one to replace it. This was the first time using West Auctions and were excited for the possibility. After bidding on several items and winning. One of the lots that I won, showed a picture of the items and a description. No where in the description or clearly in the picture does it show that (1) of the 4 items is for parts only and doesn't work. This was told to us when we picked it up and not during the bid process. After speaking with them they assured me that they were going to refund me the money but later called back and told me that they were not and item was sold as is.
