Mold on 4x4s purchased from West Auction

Looking for a deal? West Auctions is the wrong place. Years ago you could find some used tools at half the price but it's a different story in 2023. Items start at $5 and shoot up to 60%-75% of the new retail value before the bidding closes. Paying $60 for a $100 board is a deal...not so fast. Then you pay their premium of 15% and tax of 10%. After adding in 25% ($15) your paying $75. Now you have to get that board. West Auctions is located in Woodland Ca. but pick-up locations are usually where the seller was located which means anywhere from Cresent City to San Diego so, add in some transportation cost. $75+ You must remove the item you won by appointment during a 3-4 day window they provide. If you fail to remove the item...you lose. All items won are immediately charged to the required credit card seconds after the auction closed, so it was yours, then you abandoned it, and then, it's not yours? So adding in the risk of loss, new cost $75++. You jumped through the hoops...you have a truck to transport from the location on the appointment day and time. And when you are finally united with the $100 board that cost you $75++ be prepared for the letdown...no matter how clean, straight, knot-free, or wet that board looked when you 20x magnified the auction photo to count the grains in the wood it will be as close to reality as a Tinder profile. That $75++ board that cannot be returned or exchanged could be dry, cracked, bowed, or twisted with termites and you have no recourse. Real cost $75++(+!) (Dollar amont+ transportation cost +restricted deadline (+!) questionable condition and quality. A $100 board from Home Depot/Lowes is the only deal in this scenario. Unlike Tinder, there is no escaping through a bathroom window. Everything is sold as is, and it is yours. They strongly encourage buyers to preview the items on the viewing day and you should. Everyone thinking about buying ANYTHING through West Auctions needs to see the item up close before it is theirs, the x hour drive to the middle of nowhere will cost less than the disposal fee for your winning item. My last "win" was a pallet of 34 pressure-treated 4x4s in addition to having moss and mold growing on the wood there were only 33 of them. Craig from West Auctions just shrugged and said I miss counted. That did it for me, the downward spiral of West Auctions hit rock bottom with employees so incompetent and rude they cannot perform the skills of a toddler. A business that sells things to buyers as is, will sell complete garbage because they can. Buyer beware! My West Auctions purchase was a waste of time and money learn from my mistake it cost so much that I had to share it.

Hiring Pacific Auction Company was the best decision we could have made. Steve Godfryd and his team were extremely friendly, super organized, listened to our needs, and brought a wide variety of items to our auction, including many "maritime related" items that fit our audience. The set up was accomplished swiftly, the bidding and check out processes were a breeze, and our auctioneer, David Sobon, raised more for us in our fund-a-need than ever before. I am so glad we made the decision to hire Pacific Auction Company.

Hands down outstanding service from Blue Wing Gallery. Two plus decades ago I saw a mid-century…read moremodern nude in a bar called Capay Junction in Esparto, CA. The image sat on a wall behind the bar and it was beautiful I never bothered to find out who the artist was, and this I very much regretted when the bar burned to the ground within the last decade. Fast forward to spring of 2026, and I am reading the Smuggler's Cove (San Francisco tiki bar) book and see the exact piece of art in the book that is also showcased in their bar. I Google imaged it and learned who the artist was, and that began my search on the internet. I was able to find the piece on Ebay, but it was beyond my price range. Then in June 2026 I was an an estate sale in Sacramento, and there she was in all her glory in the garage. I immediately bought the print that was fastened to a piece of masonite in a raw frame. Later the following week I began my search for frames for this huge print on Facebook Marketplace, Etsy etc.. I decided to inquire locally to get an idea of what it would cost to mat and frame this piece I've wanted for decades, and was now mine. I went into Blue Wing first before heading to big box framers (Michael's), and this was the absolute best decision ever. Staff at Blue Wing evaluated the piece in person, and there was some concern on my behalf and theirs how the print was lifting off the masonite at the rectagular edges of the raw frame. They researched other places where I could potentially purchase a fresh print, and we discussed how much I liked the oval frame presentation at Smuggler's Cove, and they suggested in oval mat in a rectangular frame, so I could achieve the elegant look to highlight the image but with a rectangular frame. This would help me to achieve the look I wanted, without the exorbinate cost of an oval frame, while preserving the entire print and mitigating the issue of further lifting off the masonite. Measurements were taken, and a mat color and frame were chosen, as well as museum glass to mitigate excessive glare because the piece was so large, for an estimate. I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the pricing was, and I did not have to look further. I felt very secure in leaving this task to Blue Wing professionals in the business, vs. folks who just "work at a store who provides framing". Blue Wing cut a template of the oval mat for me to review, to ensure the elements of the image were fully captured to my liking. The completed project was outstanding, and they finished the matting and framing a week before the anticipated delivery date. Not only was I happy for how the piece turned out, but their engagement, professional suggestions and patience was top notch. I picked up the newly matted and framed image today, and its outstanding! I 100% recommend Blue Wing for your framing needs. They are professional, engaging, and demonstrate the goal of achieving what the customer desires for their art, with very reasonable pricing and excellent service!

All of the artwork and photos that hang on the walls of my home have been framed by Al and Sandy at Blue Wing, and they look fabulous! In addition to expert framing (and this really is an art in itself that Sandy does superbly), the gallery has artwork on display from local and regional artists. They also host special events including First Friday in downtown Woodland. Do yourself a favor and stop in Blue Wing if you're interested in getting some artwork or photos framed, or you're interested in art. HIGHLY recommended.
