Craig did a fine job installing a Tesla charger. The reason for the poor rating is because he didn't provide a price upfront and charged me $1,200 for 2 hours of work to install the charger which was only 5 feet away from my main service panel. Every other quote came in at about $600-700. Charged us $640 cash to set up our hot tub with wires and a box already there. We thought it was a lot but he waited till after the job to tell us the price and would only except cash. Later that day, we come home, to find the hot tub is not working. We call him back to say, hey our hot tubs not working, come help us! In return, he says, sure for $500 more in cash. When I asked him for a receipt he refuse to give us an invoice, claiming he was operating without a permit and without taxes, basically illegal, and without any guarantees for his work apparently. Confused and dumb we gave him all the cash we had. Called another electrician asked how much it would cost, $125. He came highly recommended. Sad! read more

Craig replaced an electric panel for us. From our initiL discussion over the phone to the post city inspection we could not have been more satisfied with Craig's services. Craig initially requested a number of photos of the panel, the work area, and the outside meter. He provided a competitive estimate based on the photos and some other specific work related questions. I spoke to an out of state brother, who is a retired electrician, and he indicated that Craig's estimate was fair and that Craig new what he was doing based on the questions he initially ask me. We accepted the over phone estimate and a few weeks later Craig called to set up service. Craig showed up, as promised, at 7:30 am and after about 15 minutes stated working. For the next six or seven hours he worked steadily. He walked me thru the work when he finished and then cleaned up his tools. I wrote him a check for his services and he set up the city inspection for the following day. The inspection went off without a hitch. We could not be happier. Craig is a real good guy, a hard worker, and a skilled electrician. I highly recommend hiring him for your electrical needs. I only wish that I would have hired him a few years ago for a small project that we needed done. That guys that completed that job took half a day to complete a two job and did it poorly. Could have saved myself some time and aggravation if I knew about West Coast Electric then. We plan on using Craig for any future electrical needs. read more

We recently moved to the area so had no trade contacts. I Googled and Yelped and found West Coast Electric. Craig responded quickly to what I thought was a circuit breaker or GFCI problem. He was very thorough in his diagnostics, removing the panel cover to check all the wiring. As mentioned by another reviewer, he put on booties over his shoes when he entered the house, very thoughtful! He solved the problem quickly so I asked if he could fix a few other little things which he also did quickly. Just as another person wrote Craig at West Coast Electric saved me steps and money. I had just replaced my a/c. It wasn't working. We were pretty frustrated that our brand new air conditioner wasn't cooling very well. It would be on and then click off. I called our a/c company and so they sent out their main guy that said it was working fine but it was our breaker switch that wasn't working. He said we should call an electrician. Soooo I called Craig. He had me take pictures of all the parts to be sure he understood my situation. He was really patient with me because I am unfamiliar with the terms. And we have an old house so the places things are is still rather a mystery. Anyway I finally found the tag with the info he needed. He told my my a/c company should really take care of this because after it was installed they should have checked to see if it was working with the electical system. Sooooo I called my a/c company back and told them (nicely) what Craig was thinking. I told them that the day the unit was installed was really hot, the unit was really heavy and I really do understand that they were in a hurry to get the heck outta here. I do get it BUT I was still in a hot house. The A/c guy was really great too he came out again and switched out my breaker and now we are golden! I am expecting a bill for the breaker but that will be a lot less than a breaker plus labor I would have paid. And perfectly comfortable! This happy ending was because of Craig being honest and patient. He didn't bad mouth the a/c company at all. That company and I are still friends and I will always have Craig in my back pocket. I needed to change a breaker from 40amps to 30amps and to change over the wall outlet receptacle in order to hook up a new dryer. I put out for a number of bids on yelp. Craig got back to me right away and let me know that he does not work in Oregon, however, he also provided a lot of info on the scope of the work I needed to get done (a lot less than I originally anticipated). Friendly, professional, knowledgeable, local company who doesn't recommend unnecessary services just to make a few extra bucks. I called Vancouver area electricians extensively (literally about 15 companies) before deciding to go with Craig Swoverland, owner of West Coast Electric. I spoke with him personally on the phone and discussed the issues I was having - he was very very informative, letting me know the possible causes and about how long it would take to fix, not to mention he has one of the best prices and he made time to get me in asap. This really struck a chord with me because I have found that most electric/plumbing/repair companies, particularly large businesses, will only give you bare minimal, if any, information regarding base cost and nothing regarding possible diagnoses or estimated time to complete a project. So anyway the next day, Craig came out and fixed the issues I was having in my house in a timely manner and informed me of another potential problem that he found while doing so, but he also let me know that it wouldn't be necessary to fix unless I am looking to run more electricity in the house (which I'm not). When I called West Coast Electric I was on a very short timeline. I had contractors at my house to rebuild my back deck. The outside electrical outlets at my house all had no power. I was frustrated and needed help. When Craig answered the phone and I told him the situation he immediately went into problem solving mode over the phone. With his patient questions he was able to guide me to narrow down the problem and he quickly determined a GFI must be the cause. Because oh his guidance I was able to locate the GFI and turn it back on which brought power back to my outside outlets. He solved my problem over the phone and with no charge.
