Technician did a great job and seemed to be very efficient installing several light fixtures and replacing several outlets.

We had them come out on three different occasions and then we were billed. They were each very expensive for such short visits. I would not use them again. read more

Outstanding communication, quick service, and excellent price. After another company gave me a very large quote to replace my circuit breaker panel, I started shopping around for another electrician. Westside asked questions to make sure the replacement was necessary, since some panels let you put circuits in tandem, which would make room for my new cooktop on the existing panel. A third company wanted to install an extra junction box near the cooktop, but Westside kept it simple and the final bill came in below even their own estimates. The electrician also installed a whole house surge protector and showed us how to replace it if necessary. read more

Update: The owner of the business reached out and came to my house to look at the damage. I'm still being charged $350 for an inspection. My house suffered a major water catastrophe, and all of my house surged damaging almost all of my electrical equipment. Having had contractors parading through, I was told by all of the contractors, and the insurance adjuster, that the panel and most of the light fixtures and outlets would need to be replaced. The electrician from Westside said ALL of the electrical issues were "a coincidence", and no repairs were necessary. He turned on all of the breakers, including ones that didn't stay turned on or were very difficult to click on. The panel has flames arching out of it, and the circuits crackle and spark. I was issued a $500 bill for this "service", in edict the electrician replaced nothing, only turned on circuits that tripped immediately after he left, some tripped before he left. Westside electric refused to do any actual repairs, and after this guy said it was all fine, I don't trust them to do the work. I've used Westside electric for a lot of projects in the past, but this experience was disastrous. I'll never call them again. This is in Portland Oregon. When I first called to talk about setting up an appointment I spoke to a very intelligent and nice man. He walked me thru the steps and helped literally walk me off a proverbial electrical nightmare scenario. He told me not to worry and they would be able to at least get my upstairs lights back on. If I decided to fix breaker box they could work on that later. "Lets get you up and going he said." There was no hard pressed sales speech. I said yes, send someone. This interaction was the 10th call to other companies and I chose West Side for this alone. The gentleman was kind patient and understanding. I was sent a reminder quickly after which I appreciated. The repair person BLISS, JASON came over and worked on trying to find the issue from the breaker box to the third level. He even went up into our stand up attic to scout the issue. And this whole time Hospice was here taking care of my Mom I heard Jason get emotional in the other room. We talked and he shared how he had just lost his own Mother and I at once had a kindered friend in my home. He was fast and efficient and most of all sympathetic to our situation. You have a great worker in Jason Bliss and I was honored to have him in our home. When I got the invoice I was shocked at how reasonable and fair it was. I would bake cookies for all of you in appreciation. My Mother has since passed but I will never forget the week of Jan 2026 how Jason took the time to care for us and fix our lights and ease some of my grief. I called and asked about having a service call. After explaining to person answering phone, transferred to scheduler. Person answered, asked to put me on hold, and after 15 minutes I hung up. They want to charge me $288 for a 1 hour service call, which INCLUDES driving time to site, which can be up to 30 minutes. But apparently my time isn't valued. Can't speak to service quality as I never got the chance to experience. I'll find another company that values me and my time. read more

I had a recent big electrical problem requiring a complete entry mast, outside panel + meter, and inside panel. Right now electrical contractors are busy and work is delayed. Westside was the second to make a site visit and provided a good bid. The first was an electrician who was banned for 5 years and fined for practicing as an electrician without a license. Each state is different, and some, like the state they migrated from, have less strict rules. I think they had just gotten their license back and were working through a contractor for which I could not find an Oregon CCB license. Either on the permit could result in increased permit inspection scrutiny. Of course they have liability insurance, right? Check contractor licenses. With any contractor you want a bid and a contract. This particular contractor did not have contracts. They were available to come the next day though. Maybe a little desperate for work for a reason?! I'm somewhat a student of the electrical code. I have seen some interesting wiring in less developed countries, or countries without a strong union training and apprentice system. The combination of the US electrical code and union system produces safe, long-lived, and beautiful wiring. Believe it or not, knob and tube wiring is safe, and it works for a long time. The residential electrical code over time introduces cost saving wiring devices and materials, and compensates by introducing more expensive and smart breakers and outlets. That trend is likely to continue with more efficient LED lighting, smart homes, solar, and batteries. Electricity is invisible of course, except in the form of lightning, arc faults, or welding. The skill of the electrician is to look at all the wires and visualize the flow of electricity in them. That is why the movie trope of disarming-the-bomb-decision of cutting the red wire, or the blue wire, is completely ridiculous. It depends what the wire does. The combination of the electrical code and union electricians do wiring the same way, so any electrician can quickly see how it works. Making it neat and beautiful is a point of pride for electricians. I was happy for them to pull the permit with the City of Portland. Contractors have a better online interface to the permit system. They offered a snap into the panel whole house surge protector I selected. Because it was a like for like project, regular breakers worked fine, rather than a complete change to arc fault-GFI breakers which are expensive. The electricians arrived on the agreed schedule, were very precise and neat on the boxes, level and true. The wiring is neat and properly labeled. They were up to date on code, for instance putting a wood panel to shield the wire entries above the breaker panel. They worked at a steady pace. My neighbor remodel has a slacker electrician who, if they worked steadily, would be finished. Their time on site and transport per hour + materials + office time was consistent with their bid and fair. Their estimator was on schedule and knowledgable. The office person was great to work with. Their project manager coordinated well. The electricians did a very professional job and even bring their own small trash can. Poor quality work and poor responsiveness. I am mid-nightmare with this outfit and super duper frustrated. I got a panel replaced. I was told verbally there would be some drywall removal because the new panel was larger. Makes sense. They comped me $500 on a near $5000 job, due to the shoddy work. Ok? Wish I were done with them at this point, but no. The city inspector came by and couldn't find where they had bonded to the water pipe. He sent that in on a Thursday. I replied to the estimator and scheduler right away. No action. No action Friday. Today (Monday) I reached them and they said they could send someone out today. Then wrote back to say "today will not work". Wth. So crappy work and not responsive. During fall 2021, I called West Side Electric to have the wiring on a ceiling light repaired in our 1911 home and to get quotes on 2 other jobs (to get a light switch put into a bedroom and get an electric outlet installed on our front porch). We were told that those jobs required a quote and that only the electric light job would be taken care of during the visit. Our technician was polite and took care of the light switch but also spent some time assessing the other 2 jobs while here. A month later we received a statement/bill for the light job including the flat visit fee plus another hour of work (which presumably included the time assessing the other jobs). I waited for quote on the other jobs (which we were told would arrive with the bill). The quote never came. So a month later I called to get the quote and was told it would be sent to us. It wasn't. So another few weeks later I called to remind them that we never got the quote and the man in the office was extremely rude to me and suggested I was being silly for asking for the quote. He said dismissively that "of course" they would send it to me. We never got the quote. I paid out our bill. Getting the quote was part of the service we paid for and we never got it. If they felt they could not do the job, just tell us that - but we were never given any indication that they could not do it and were promised a quote We just never got the quote. I will never call them again because to my mind they only did part of the promised job, did a poor job in communicating their services, and were rude to boot. read more

We have an extremely old house that has been renovated several times. It's got creaky, ancient knob and tube wiring on the one hand and some questionable "high tech" (for the late 90s) decisions have been made by prior electricians over the decades. I sent info about the work we needed done over to the West Side Electric quote email, worked out some of the details with Glen (who helped steer me in the right direction!), and got on the schedule about a week and a half later. Being roughly twenty years behind on maintenance, we needed a bunch of outdated plugs fixed, other plugs swapped, a circuit breaker replaced, and some extensive work done on water damaged outlets in our patio and the koi pond. Brian came over bright and early as scheduled and did a terrific job. He moved quickly and efficiently from each of the many jobs we had and he rolled with all the punches that our decrepit wiring system and completely rusted out sockets could throw at him. He treated our property very respectfully and double-checked all of his work. When I was ready to compromise on some of the trickier pieces, he reassured me he could do it perfectly and without trouble. He recognized that there was irreplaceable trim at stake and used the utmost care when trimming the backing wood for a new outlet box. He also gave me some valuable information about how to avoid catastrophic failures with ~100 year old wiring that I really appreciated. I'd recommend finding another company if you can. I went with Westside because of their size and reputation as "expensive, but solid" and left feeling that at least the first part was true. The electricians who showed up did good work, though they eventually became combative with my HVAC contractors, which was embarrassing and awkward for me. The process of getting and modifying a bid, that made sense, was an endless back-and-forth frustration. The price changed several times and the itemization was largely opaque. Westside could provide no help for trench digging, and any request for adding to the project (additional circuit, for example) resulted in over-the-top hand-wringing and recrimination. I know contractors pad charges and exaggerate effort, but working with these guys (ok, mostly the sales guy) was painful. read more

Provided them photos & scope of what I needed (moving a single outlet/switch, running wiring inside the wall, SUPER simple) - then called & spoke with Crystal, who obviously didn't know much about electrical work. Her best answer for me was, "It all depends on the wiring.." Uh, yeah. That's why I called an electrician. She quoted me $195 for the first hour of work, & told me that that includes up to 30 minutes of travel time. I'd love to charge my boss for my commute to work! First time hearing that one.. So basically the first 30 minutes are $195, & the secretary knew nothing about the job & couldn't help with anything. Waste of time sending anything to them, I'll go with someone who has knowledgable professionals available & can at least bury their travel costs with another label like "diagnostic fee" or something. read more

I am so upset at this company! I got a quote last April and then project begins in October. Then when project started the person who worked on the project was rude as I told him that the poles for my electric was in the wrong spot and he said no mam I am doing what the boss told me. I then proceed to tell him the same thing I told the guy who gave me a quote that I don't want wires all over my yard. What they do, not listen! I then tell the main person that I was not happy and he said well then we will have to charge you more! ALMOST 4000 more for their mistake! still not done and all they want is their money! We are return customers of West Side Electric (2022 and 2023) - and that pretty much sums up our great experience. They were recommended to us by a realtor friend. We conferred with Glenn who assessed our projects and gave great advice. We had them install a whole house surge protector and install a new electrical line for a new range. The electricians who came to do each project were prompt, highly skilled and explained what they were doing and why. The new electrical line was tough - always harder to do that after the house is built! The electrician did a great job of evaluating options, anticipating problems and then planning a route for the line that avoid future problems. Addendum: Glenn, from WSE, reached out offering to address my concerns from the review below. He went over the charges on my invoice with me. Following the review of charges, he provided adjustments to materials used on the job and permit fee, bringing the invoice down to $764, which aligned with what I had been quoted. Thank you for the follow-up and working with me to address my billing inquiries. We had a friendly electrician service the job. However, regarding cost... I was told by two different office staff during two separate calls that the job being done would cost between $500-$850. I clarified the extreme end by asking what highest amount I should expect to pay? And was told $850. When the electrician arrived for the job I asked prior to the work being started what I should expect the cost to be and was told it should be closer to $600. Despite three different people from WSE quoting me what seemed a reasonable amount, I was billed $1014 for the job. I called to inquire about the discrepancy and previously quoted amounts and paraphrasing here, but was essentially told, "tough luck." I also have the inspection report from the city that includes the Electrical Permit fee, showing it cost $151. The invoice from WSE lists the Electrical Permit fee I'm paying as $250. Not sure if this is standard practice, but was told there is a mark-up on permits... As a costumer I expect to pay what I've been quoted, unfortunately this did not happen here. read more

I spoke in detail to a guy named Glen and he gave me a ball park idea what adding outlets would cost and he said he would send me an itemized quote later that day. 2 days later, I had nothing. I called back Glen and they put me through to his voicemail. I left a detailed voicemail and still no call back. I understand the service industry is busy now a days but what ever happened to basic common courtesy? I will never use West Side Electric again and will never refer them. The quick & dirty: They gave an accurate competitive quote, got us in quickly and fixed the problem when an issue arose. The real meat: 1944 house with an 80's panel and out of slots to expand. We needed a panel upgrade and had really no clue as to how much these things would cost and how invasive of a project it would be. Nor if we needed to upgrade our amperage as well. The average cost of this job online returns around 1200-2000 depending on what you have done in total which will vary house to house. We paid towards the upper of the range but had all of the things below addressed which is a bit more than just having the panel replaced. West Side came out and walked us through it all very clearly as to what their plan was per what we actually needed and what our options were. They were booked out over a month for appointments but since ours was a 1 day job they put us on the list in case anyone cancelled. Which happened and we ended up getting in just over a week later. In the end we went with a standard panel but almost double the expansion availability. They added proper grounding outside the house into the earth and explained the expand ability of our new panel as well as any limitations. Unless we plan to run some major equipment a regular panel was fine for our house as well as a simple wood and tool shop. They did push an up-sale of a house wide surge protector which we found many contradicting reviews on whether they are needed but in the end sure, why not protect the house externally as well. The one time it is ever used (if ever) it would pay for itself. West Side Electric Co was initially a 4 star for us as in "A great experience above the average" but then at inspection we had a problem with the panel choice, they hadn't revealed in pre inspection that the wire coming into the house was only rated for a 125 amp box but we had installed a 200 amp capable box in case we needed to upgrade in the future. This was of course a hiccup but they earned a 5 star when they emailed US before the inspector was even clear of the house, apologizing for the overlooked detail. NOT only that but explained in complete transparency how it slipped by and that they would have someone out that day to fix it to pass inspection which was itself a half day job. So a jump for being awesome and flexible about scheduling and then even more for acknowledging a problem and being so kind and quick to fix it. Average service is not a bad thing and even hard to find at time and they proved to be above average in many ways. read more

Ben, the electrician who came to our home, was very kind and knowledgeable and was able to fix our problem for us. However, the company's billing practices are questionable at best, if not unethical. $225 per hour, 1 hour minimum for service calls (which was not disclosed up front), and they apparently include drive time in that one hour (which is NOT a common contractor business practice). I am absolutely left feeling like I've been had. Will not be calling this company again. read more

Horrible customer service. I had a problem and called to speak with a manager about my bill and did not get a call back - only got another bill sent to me. History: After speaking with a dispatcher and describing my problem and what I wanted done she assured me they could do it. When the guy came out I told him what I wanted to do and he said he couldn't do it but wanted to take a look. He took a look and did nothing and they sent me a bill for $130. Total rip off and incompetent people. Update - I got a call from WSE the next day after I posted the initial 1 star review. We had WSEC come out when we bought our first house and needed a new Service and some smaller grounding work done. First of all, they organized everything with the electrical company so we didn't have to be involved in that. Then, they did all the work in two consecutive days and were very clean and courteous. All this and they also quoted the lowest price and were able to come out the soonest. The only small complaint we had was that they forgot to install a dimmer in one of our light switches, and they left with one of the can lights not working. We recently used West side electric to fix some electrical issues that were brought up on our home inspection. The estimator, David, was very thorough. The electrician who came out was super nice & went through everything with me. He answered all my questions, even the dumb ones :) The only issue we had was that it was a little difficult to schedule the work. They are very busy and we had to talk to a few different people throughout the process... David did the estimating, heather took the deposit, and crystal did the scheduling. We had to make some changes to the work we needed and so we had to go back and forth a little between David & Crystal. We were in desperate need for help in installing our new ceiling fan and a couple of wall sconces before our house warming party. Our ceilings are 18 feet high and this created a challenge for many other companies, but not West Side. We did as everyone does, we looked around for different quotes and estimates and we were quoted at really high rates with other companies, in the $600 range. There was no way we could not swing those fees. We called to get estimates from West Side and their rates were better than their competitors and fairly reasonable. They had the equipment to reach our high ceilings, which other locations required renting, which leads to more fees. We settled on scheduling an appointment for after our party, but we asked to please place our name on a waiting list for an earlier appointment in case someone cancels. Low and behold we got a phone call about 20 minutes later and said someone can come over right now. We said perfect! Jeff arrived and assessed the situation and said, "Let's do this". Honestly, he was in and out in a little over an hour. He didn't mess around he got straight to work. He was kind, courteous, professional, efficient and speedy.
