I van wiped off the grease oil that he had smeared on it with a rag and mysteriously has never come back. He was telling me to have the van hooked up to his computer to diagnose the problem. I declined later in his shop. I noticed he has signs that say he charges $500 to do a diagnosis check. This guy should be shut down. Then when it came to pay my bill. He tried the overcharged me by adding one hour to the labor chargeThen if things couldn't get any worse when I was getting ready to leave. He took a picture of me in my van. He said he likes to know who he's talking to when customers called back. My initial reason for taking the van. There was to replace the engine wiring harness . then he told me that I should replace a couple of belts (serpentine belt -water pump belt) which I agreed to do. my next course of action is. I'm going to take my sprinter van to a Mercedes dealership and have them verify if all of the work that I paid for. Was actually done. read more

Early this year my wife and I bought a 2009 Winnebago ERA 170 RV -- a Mercedes Sprinter 2500 build (318 CDI, pre-Bluetek), with 66K miles in good condition. But it had a curious uneven whirring / whining / warbling noise underneath, mid-vehicle, not strictly engine- or ground-speed related. I first Yelped a well-reviewed mechanic not far from where we store the rig in Hayward (Mangale Motors). Good people -- their initial diagnosis was driveshaft or differential, but their lifts don't accommodate tall RVs so they said they couldn't narrow it down further. After calling several MBZ dealerships and visiting one in San Jose, I read West Coast Sprinter's many 5-star reviews and decided the 90-mile drive to Salinas could be worth it -- and it was. Rito, a senior mechanic, test-drove the rig with me. He confirmed the noise pattern and started searching for the source. He found an almost completely-worn-through transmission mount, which had affected the driveshaft's front carrier bearing, but after replacing both parts the noise was still there on test-drive. It was late in the day so they gave me their fun VW GTI loaner car to drive home to SF overnight. The next morning Lino called and said they had put several "Chassis Ears" microphones underneath, including on the rear differential housing, and conclusively located the "crying noise" within the driveshaft's rear third. He happened to have the needed piece in stock from one of their parted-out Sprinters (an advantage of a specialized shop), and installed it -- problem solved. Lino's crew lives and breathes Sprinters and Promasters. WCS has been in business 12 years; Rito has worked there for 8. I have been dealing with this company for five years. I am finally fed up with overpaying for parts and labor. I have owned three sprinter RVs over the past five years . My recent transaction was a starter, a fuel filter, and a battery. I totaled the parts and I was overcharged three times more than what I could've got them for myself.. also Labor for changing a battery, a fuel filter and changing a starter was $650. The job probably took all of two hours to complete. this place is very overpriced and there is one mechanic and the owner is running around in Salinas all day. I've got a 2006 Dodge sprinter Mercedes Winnebago RV. I love it but nothing but problems for the year and a half I've had it. In and out of several shops, nobody could figure out why it kept having problem after problem. I took it to West Coast sprinter, and I think they could have fixed it in their sleep, one of the most knowledgeable sprinter experts on the planet! He lies, says things are broken that are not, does not put the brand of parts that he claims he does and breaks things and doesnt fix them. He is not an honest person. If you go here ask for the broken parts and verify that he used the brand of parts he charged you for on your car. Try specialized auto in watsonville instead. This is probably the most knowledgeable Sprinter shop you'll ever find. The manager Lino is just a genuinely good guy and he lives & breathes his Sprinters. My '03 T1N Sprinter sputtered out just as I reached Main Street on Salinas while traveling North on the 101. After repeated stalls, I limped into a shop who could not diagnose the problem. Many phone calls later, I resign to calling AAA for a tow to the Dodge dealership, only for the tow truck driver to recommend Lino's shop instead. Instead of being wary ("Oh, he's just funneling business..."), I went with it and it was the best car care decision I've ever made on the Sprinter. Together we figured out that it was my EGR valve, a known failure point on the 02-03 models. The internal valve rod had just snapped, failing the valve in the open position. Result? Fuel-air mixture too lean and engine stalls. Luckily the shop had a lightly-used salvage unit in stock and incredibly, I was back on the road within several hours. During the installation, we talked lots of shop. I've studied up these models quite extensively and he had an answer to all my questions for these quirky machines. These dudes know their way around a Sprinter Van. Best I've found in the SF bay area. Super deep knowledge of all models of the vehicle. They went through my whole suspension and got the girl floating on clouds compared to the wobbly mess she went in as. He is one of the best mechanics I've worked with and every time I drop my rig off I know it's going to be done right. After spending months searching for the best option to replace my engine I came across Lino via word of mouth. He found me a brand new engine cheaper then I could find a rebuilt one pretty much anywhere in the US (I searched far and wide). Engine sway in 2 days! We were driving north on 101 about 10 miles south of Salinas in our Mercedes sprinter motor home when we lost all power - could go about 20 mph max. After MANY phone calls we were referred to West Coast Sprinter. It was about 4:30 Friday and these guys were great. They diagnosed the issue, ordered the part (egr valve) and had us ready to go Saturday morning. I also had them do the first 10,000 mile service while waiting for the part. These guys are game changers....I found West Coast Sprinter and owner Lino M while researching service options in the Salinas area. My needs were somewhat unique I'm female traveling alone and I had a short period of time to run a full safety check and get me back on the road. Lino and his team went over the service plan including estimates (time and $) for my "what if" scenarios (need brakes....) All through the process they kept me updated and were able to fix all the issues identified immediately. I mentioned to Rito that my swivel seat was broken, not expecting he would look at it but he resolved the problem with a simple cotter pin. A simple fix with huge impact that likely would have gone unaddressed at a dealership. Rito is the most customer focused gentleman you will ever come across. These guys are great. They have been super flexible with hours to meet, are the most knowledgable sprinter mechanics I've ever spoken to, and the number one priority for the guys there is customer satisfaction and the quality of the work. We had our van there due to a check engine light and a pesky software glitch. Our local shop could not reset the computer, and couldn't diagnose the problem 100%. Lino diagnosed the problem, updated the software, and even took the time to talk to us about some future work we expect to need on the van. I will be bringing our van there for all future jobs. If you're looking at this shop, chances are you own a Dodge/Mercedes Sprinter and know how hard it is to find a good one for these special vehicles. We purchased a used Itasca Navion RV on '06 Sprinter 3500 chassis, obviously after 10 years needing much overdue maintenance! After researching the Bay Area we found these guys were very professional and knowledgeable. The local Mercedes dealership who doesn't work on diesel Sprinters recommended them as well. Also discovered our local county Dodge Sprinter emergency ambulances get repaired here when their own company mechanics can't fix a problem. After meeting Lino & Rito, it was obvious these guys were very experienced with all issues, repairs & improved upgrades for various models of Sprinters. They do the work themselves so there's consistency with who's repairing the vehicle, not 10 different mechanics on any given day you show up. Stock majority of their parts and know exactly where to get the "right special parts" to finish the job quickly. You get what you pay for and their prices are more than fair, definitely competitive and way better than any dealership. What's worth your money is the experience they offer with everything Sprinter....motors, transmission, electrical/sensors, turbos, suspension/steering, brakes, cooling system, after market accessories etc. I know because I had all these services done......they'll tell you what's needed, what works and what doesn't work, what's worth upgrading or where to save your money on garbage.
