West Coast University has many resources for student success. The career services staff, clinical professors and simulation professors work really prepare the students for the nursing field. Daisy Cruz was very helpful in preparing me for the application process of various RN residency programs, resume building and gave me reminders of when to apply. All of the clinical professors are exceptional, they have so many years of experience and I felt that each one really wanted us to succeed as future nurses. They send out emails weekly for new job openings that current students can apply for, have workshops, career fairs, and lunch & learns. I went to one of these workshops held by Talene, who encouraged me to apply for jobs. However, it was my appointed advisor, Daisy, who was extremely helpful in helping me get the job! She was flexible in meeting with me with one days notice for a mock interview and helped me with what I was weak in (like answering questions). And two days later, I got the job! read more

The nursing program is challenging but very rewarding and I do believe the school prepares you so well for the NCLEX. The biggest frustration I had was with the administration--communication wasn't always timely or consistent, which could be stressful at times, especially when trying to get important information or approvals. That said, the absolute best part of WCU is Career Services, and specifically Talene Zadekian. She truly goes above and beyond for the students. Talene genuinely cares about helping us succeed. WCU has been a great experience overall. The program is well organized for the most part, and the way the teams, clinical placements, and NAS classes are coordinated has made everything run smoothly. Even PALS has made a huge difference, too! All of the staff have been especially supportive throughout the process. I have loved every teacher I have had; each one is exceptional, and WCU is lucky to have them teaching! (so are we as students!) My NAS teacher, Kristen Davis, has been incredibly helpful during our weekly meetings and always takes the time to make sure I understand the material and feel supported. My financial aid advisor, Raquel De Haro, has also been great to work with and has helped make the financial aid process so much easier to navigate. Although I am only in Core 2, I've had a very positive experience and appreciate the support and organization that WCU provides for its students. One area that could be improved is the quality and availability of supplies during skills validations, as well as updated skills check-off lists. It would be helpful if there were more supplies available so students could practice more effectively and feel fully prepared during validations. For example, I had to use the IV needle about 4 times before the cannula got stretched out; we only had 2 per student to practice with. Overall, I'm grateful for the support from the staff and the structure of the program so far. read more

This review is specifically for the simulation department! The school itself is a different topic. However, the staff for the SIMs and the professor are exceptionally the best! I love the amount of hands on experience we have during our sims and the professors have always been extremely knowledgeable and fun. You can tell they care and love what they do. Also Diane is a gem she is always so sweet and fun and caring of us. She works the front desk and is a direct line to the SIMs manager. She responds fast and is always so helpful if we have any questions or concerns. The SIMs department is definitely one of the best experience I have had going to this school and I really appreciate all of their hard work and dedication during our most stressful time as nursing students. My daughter is completing her BSN in nursing at West Coast University. Not only is this accelerated program extremely expensive, the campus director and Dean are very unhelpful and unfair! My daughter has not missed one day of class nor has she ever been late regardless of her being sick the circumstances of her, losing her grandmother and so forth, she has made every single class without any excuse. She missed one class and took accountability for setting her alarm incorrectly instead of setting it for an a.m. time it was set for p.m.. She has emailed her professor right away to make her aware of why she missed class and her professor responded back via email stating to reach out to a classmate to retrieve the notes and upload the assignment which my daughter immediate did. We have everything in writing, 2 days later the campus director has reached out to my daughter cold heartedly to advise that there is no exceptions made, but to drop her class and clinicals Meaning she will have to retake this course after the fact which will delay her graduation for 10 weeks. As far as the professors are concerned, and the staff that work in Financial Aid, they are wonderful, but there are certain people within West Coast that are extremely careless and will not allow you to speak or ask questions. The Dean asked me why I was calling on behalf of my daughter as my daughter is an adults and can speak for herself. The reason why I called was because they wouldn't hear my daughter out and didn't care to listen. I will make sure that I put a review in every single outlet that allows me to so that I could warn the students and the parents of what they will go through at West Coast University. The campus director and Dean are unhelpful they un motivate the kids by trier extremely strict rules. They will drop you for missing one class regardless of the reasoning. You can lose a family member or be sick and they will advise you that you cannot miss class. Very unreasonable! I've asked them to outline the guidelines in the handbook to show me online, which has no merit to their argument and they have failed . I am seeking legal advice because this is unacceptable and I feel that if we continue to stay quiet, it would only get worse for the next student . I hope West Coast cares about the reputation and takes matters into their own hands and corrects the situation. If not, I will make sure that I do all I can do to make sure that I am heard. . Shame on the campus director for the poor communication and the way of communicating to the student and the parent. I am seeking legal advice. read more
