My experience with this program was extremely disappointing and, at times, felt misleading. Students pay around $1,200-$1,500 for the course alone, then are required to pay additional costs for uniforms, supplies, and other materials that are not clearly explained upfront. In my experience, students were often told to purchase materials with little notice, sometimes the night before or even the same day they were needed, and some of those materials were never used at all. The quality of instruction also did not match the cost of the program. A large portion of the coursework was labeled as "self-study," with instructors frequently telling students to "read it on your own" rather than actually teaching the material during class. As a student, it felt frustrating to pay for instruction and support while being expected to teach myself much of the material. Students were also assigned handwritten "Signs and Symptoms" homework assignments that took a significant amount of time to complete but were never actually reviewed or gone over in class. With the large amount of material already being assigned, this often took away from valuable study time without providing much educational benefit. On quiz days, instructors would often quickly go over one or two chapters right before the quiz and then expect students to fully remember and understand all of the material immediately afterward. Personally, I felt there was not enough actual teaching, review, or preparation before being tested. During skills days, much of the equipment was broken or unusable, which made it difficult to practice properly. With around 60 students per class all paying nearly $1,500, I believe there should have been enough functioning equipment available for students. Another concern was the Block 2 exam. A new exam format was introduced, and the class average was reportedly around 60%, which made many students, including myself, feel that we were not properly prepared or set up for success. There were also multiple questions covering a topic that had never been discussed during lectures, which made the exam feel unfair and confusing for many students. I also spoke with many students throughout the class about their experiences with the program. A large handful mentioned that this was their second time taking the course because they had failed it the first time, which was honestly concerning to hear so often. The program also charges a $50 fee to reschedule ride-alongs regardless of the reason, including family emergencies or serious illness, and this policy was not clearly communicated beforehand. I also felt that students were often not clearly told why they failed certain tests or skills evaluations or what specific areas they needed to improve on. Because of this, I often felt unable to properly learn from my mistakes or understand what needed to be corrected moving forward. Overall, based on my personal experience, I would not recommend this program. It often felt more focused on collecting money than supporting students and helping them succeed. read more

I'm an LA County EMT but I also needed my OC license as well, so I looked up online where I would be able to take my OC EMT ambulance driver's/attendant license, and West Coast was one of the top options that came up. When I checked the website, all of the dates were full, but I ended up calling and speaking to a very lovely lady who helped me sign up for some spots she had available. On the day of the course, I came in not really knowing what to expect. Dallas Shelly was my instructor, and honestly, he was amazing. He made the class feel super comfortable, very engaging, and adjusted how he taught the material based on everyone's level of experience. By the end of it, I felt very satisfied and just wanted to come on here and say how easy the whole process was. They gave the certification at the end of the course, and overall, if I had to do this again, I'd definitely come back here. Oh, and Patrick the admin guy was nice as well. read more

I took a Saturday EMT course at West Coast EMT's LA Campus with Kris Sietz as my instructor. The course was rigorous but manageable, even while taking a full load of college classes--I finished the semester with A's and passed the EMT exams. The exams are extremely challenging, so be prepared. While Kris provides helpful hints on what to focus on, I found YouTube reviews and Anki invaluable for memorizing and understanding the content. It's not just about memorization; you need to be able to apply the knowledge, which is why the exams are so tough. Skills day was the most demanding part of the course for me; most students were unprepared for how difficult it was. Although I passed all my skills on the first attempt, I strongly recommend dedicating a few hours each week to practicing and mastering the skills portion of the course. It's worth the effort! Edit: I did want to also add that I passed the NREMT on my first try, in 70 questions. So, the course was excellent preparation and I highly recommend it. read more

I just graduated from the 3 month course on Monday/Wednesdays, I had Diana as my instructor and she was fantastic! She was very thorough with every lecture, if you had any questions, she gave her responses to you in depth which really helped me succeed. Our class had so much fun. I attended the 5 week accelerated course. This course is not easy by any means. I highly recommend that you have some knowledge about EMT and emergency response before you start this course. WHAT CAN I SAY?!? I did the accelerated EMT course with the most amazing instructor Sam T. I will say, this course is not for the faint. You do this course if you are willing to commit everything you've got for 4 weeks. If you're not, do the extended program. West coast EMT and importantly Sam, gave us more than what we needed to complete the course successfully. They are very organized, located close to the major freeways, the campus is clean, and the employees are on their "A" game. The other EMT schools may be easier to pass, but will not prep you for the NREMT like west coast does. If you want success you go to West coast and ask for Sam to be your instructor. I cannot stress how amazing Sam was, she kept things so interesting, very thoroughly explained the subjects on a way we could understand. She never made you feel stupid for asking any question, treated everyone equally, always always had such a great attitude. She was just such a cool person in general. Great experience with OC West Coast location! The price for the course is reasonable and cheaper than other options. There is also a wide array of courses to choose from, from part time to full time and weekend courses. Sam was a great instructor that really understands the material and is able to explain and help with any gaps in learning. The accelerated course was very intense but for good reason, and all staff involved really made sure our class was prepared for the final and for the NREMT. Our skills instructors Kayla, Diana, Iman, Scott, and Kyle were great to work with and having people in the field to walk us through the hands on portion was SUPER helpful. Helpful advice is to READ THE BOOK. Everything is based on it and there will be things that are not in lecture that are on the exams. Be proactive and read ahead, and find a group that will help you to study and be accountable. Whatever you put into the course is what you'll get out of it. You're making a great choice in WCEMT. The program is expensive and at times a bit unorganize, but overall I had a good experience and learned alot.

I did the full time course (Monday-Thursday 8AM-5PM) with Sam, and I have to say it was enjoyable for how rigorous everything was. Although it was full-time, I thought everything taught was concise and to the point (no BS). Same really honed in on certain topics that she thought was important and relevant. What really helped me in the class is taking lecture notes and facilitating it with the PowerPoint slides given to us. Purchasing the workbook for the class (found on Amazon) was really helpful to prepare for each block exam. This class was definitely daunting, but with time and effort it is VERY doable. Skills instructors Catherine, Kennedy, Savannah, Jerry, and Kayla were amazing and super helpful with everything. They explained everything step by step and they also were patient. :) FYI I graduated with the biggest class Sam has had in a while!
