As with any outlet store, this is gonna be a bit of a westworld experience. Go in with an open mind and if you spend enough time there, you're bound to find a hidden gem or five. I wasn't sure what I would find at this outlet, but I was in need of new furniture and went in with an open mind. They have everything here and the store always has an additional percentage off on top of the "sale" price. My credit card wasn't too happy, but I walked away with matching drawers/chest, king bed frame in a peacock blue velvet, a leather chaise, and way too much other crap. I'm obsessed though. They do provide a third party service to deliver up to five large pieces of furniture for $250. I highly recommend it as they pick up, transport, and bring it into your house. WINNING. I snagged a dresser with a small dimple (scratch) discounted by 15% for that small imperfection! Mirrors are on sale for 70% their outlet prices. A steal! Sofa Shopping! This West Elm outlet in San Marcos has cheap(er) furniture. They have stuff that looks like it's a bit shop worn or last year's model. When I went, the staff was pretty preoccupied, hanging back and not try and sell the customers a bunch of stuff. They didn't have anything that looked amazing, but they had a selection of sofas. They have some good discounts on rugs, and they did have a good selection. This shop is located in the Tanger Outlet Mall. They're supposed to have a trolley that can take you around to the various shops, but I didn't see it. Tanger Outlets is nice. Parking is easy and free. It's easy to access from I-35. read more

The store findings can be hit or miss and when you find a gem it's like you've struck gold. I was super pleased with a recent visit and had a great customer service experience with Reygen who was so sweet kind and helpful as well as interactions with the manager Elijah in resolving a delivery issue. Things I've learned through my last experience: 1. ask for 15% off if the item has any sort of damage on it - double check the entire item 2. Be sure to ask them to wrap your items before you pick them up 3. When you go to pick items up, load them yourself because the boys loading are careless, rude and disrespectful I purchased an $1800 couch that had a small piece of wood missing and the boys broke more pieces off of the unwrapped couch when loading. When I called and talked to the manager, Christina, she said that I should have received 15% off for the initial chip. I did not know this because the cashier that checked me out acted like it was his first day. He didn't know any answers to my questions and the girl who knew the answers kept saying "I'm not even clocked in right now". Anyway, Christina also said that she would talk to the guys who loaded the couch and asked for me to send pictures via Instagram. I did so and she blamed it on my boyfriend for helping them load when it was clearly their fault. She then said she would check for a replacement part for me and would get back to me. Never did. I messaged again asking for the 15% off (refund or maybe a gift card) that I should have received when purchasing and she read it and no reply. I messaged again "so that's a no?" and she read it again. She didn't even have the decency to say no. Such an unprofessional way to manage a store. I love West Elm but this is unacceptable customer service. Oh and another thing - there were large stains that looked like oil on the side of the couch that we didn't notice since it was next to another couch in the store. When I sent her pics of it as well, she didn't even acknowledge the fact at all. Luckily I was able to get them out but this is just another problem that I had to deal with. read more

West Elm at half the cost. This place is a frugal furniture lovers dream. When you walk into this outlet you're immediately reminded of your favorite West Elm store, but something is slightly off. It seems more approachable, like you're looking at pieces that you can actually afford. And you're right, you can afford the fabulous deals here. I recently bought a $3000 leather sofa from here. The exact one I've been eyeing on the West Elm online store, but couldn't pull the trigger on such a pricey item. They had it for over 60% off and in perfect condition. PERFECT. I immediately bought it and we lugged it home in our Honda Element. Hey, we can't all drive trucks. There's so much to look at here, too. They have every item you can image at prices 25%-90% off retail. I'm a sucker for a good deal and this place has them in spades. read more

This was the worst customer service experience I've ever had and it continues today. Went in and purchased several pieces on sale. Sales staff were unhelpful, did not provide attention nor assistance, ignored our requests, and overcharged items on the actual receipt. When I pointed out the math errors, was met with hostility. We had to wrap our items and do our own carryout. Had to hire a Burro driver to transport large items, store employee took 40 minutes after our request to disassemble said items but at this point, it had begun to rain, so you can imagine the entertainment value in this. So again, we were overcharged and treated with a tremendous amount of disrespect. Never going back there or to the retail store. They've lost us as customers. The single worst part of the experience was dealing with the manager, Christina, who was rude, contentious, insolent, disrespectful, and just a horrible human being who has no business being in a customer service position and whose talents would be best served either as a warden in a backwoods Mississippi chain gang, an IRS auditor, or, an interrogator at Guantanamo. I have sent three emails to West Elm and been I touch with their social media director. Apparently,​ they forget that 95% of customers share bad experiences, and half of those people will tell 10+ others. read more

I have been shopping at this outlet for a few years now. Each time I go, they are always so helpful no matter how busy they are. Today it was an exceptional customer service experience with only one associate on the floor, and one associate loading customers cars. Both associates, and I wish I knew their names, were so sweet. I had a ton of questions about a few different products that were not marked with prices or were up a bit high, but we're so patient. As someone who loves the aesthetic of west elm furniture but cannot get behind the hefty price tags that come with them, the west elm Outlet was very appealing to me during my move to Austin, TX! This place is a frugal shopper's wet dream. My husband and I were in need of a couch and several furnishings for our new home. We found just about everything we were looking for at the west elm Outlet, all of which was approximately 50% off the retail price! I was so surprised to find that the list prices were actually the before-discount-applied prices. Know that what you see on the tag is not the price you pay. Depending on the item, expect to deduct 30-60%. Make sure you speak to a rep to understand the discounts. The selection we encountered was quite decent. Obviously, you don't know what you will find there. I am sure it is hit or miss. For us, it was definitely a hit. All of the pieces we took home were in great condition and were current products. There were, admittedly, some pieces that were slightly damaged or that had slight cosmetic issues. I wouldn't say that finding a good piece here is like finding a diamond in the rough. If you go to the outlet with a flexible mind about your home decor, you will definitely find something to suit your needs. I did not expect to come home with a blue couch, but it was beautiful and well priced, so that's what I ended up with. If you are incredibly picky or have a very specific aesthetic in mind, you might want to pass on this outlet. We found a gorgeous sectional sofa at 50% off the list price, as well as 2 bar stools and a queen headboard. I plan to head back this weekend for some additional furnishings since we ran out of time! Since we neither live in San Marcos nor own a truck, we could not drive back to Austin with the furniture we purchased at the west elm Outlet. The representatives hooked us up with a third-party delivery company called PICKUP which picked up and delivered our furnishings next morning. It can get pretty expensive to arrange this delivery so if you plan to buy several pieces of furniture, I recommend to bundle them to get the most value. The only nuisance about the outlet was the fact that the employees are actually not allowed to advise you on your purchase. I have two cats and would have appreciated some upholstery recommendations. When I started to ask the rep about the different types of upholstery, she said that she was not allowed to advise me due to outlet store policy. The only other nuisance was the fact that the rugs were all rolled up and stacked to the ceiling. How am I supposed to look at these rugs? I would definitely appreciate a better display, but I get this is an outlet. I said I'd never shop here again after a horrible experience every time I've been here. The last time the staff was being rude and I heard them talking about me when I was sitting on the display furniture behind the cash register. But I can't resist the clean modern looking furniture and accessories they sell. I finally had a good trip here. They were super attentive. Offered to help look up furniture and display area rugs. It's west elm, and its cheaper than the store or on-line. That in and of itself could be the review. Having said that let me expound a little. I love mid-century modern and have many pieces from west elm in my house, so I love this look. But be clear: this is a true outlet. Absent any of the lighting and arranging you see at the store you'll notice many of the items just don't have the same "wow" factor. And, as an outlet you are going to see some overruns and some damaged furniture. I saw several pieces with damage and was kind of surprised they didn't just junk them. There is no real customer service that I could see, just people ringing the registers. And there is no ambiance here with lighting, and arranging, etc. Nice stuff somewhat cheaper is what it boils down to. I won't make the trip for the sake of going here alone, but if I'm on the way to SA I'll stop in, you never know what you'll find. Just prepare yourself - the Outlet is just that: you are not visiting a west elm store. read more

I called this store the day I moved to Austin looking for a sofa. The person on the phone told me they'd just gotten a truck in and they had a ton of sofas. So I drive an hour down to San Marcos only to arrive and see almost no sofas on the sales floor. I asked the girl behind the counter (who ignored me the whole time I was in the store because she was on a personal call) about the sofas on the delivery truck I'd been told about. She told me they weren't unpacked and weren't going to be unpacked and that I should go to Pottery Barn. Then she went back to her call! I couldn't believe it. I'm nothing if not tenacious, so I did another lap around the store since I'd come all this way. That's when the manager Travis (or maybe Tyler? But he was tall, cute and very nice) came out from the back of the store. I asked him about the sofas on the truck and he took the time to research and find out what inventory was on the truck for me. When we found a sofa that sounded right up my alley, he got it off the truck, unwrapped it for me and when I liked what I saw, he gave me a sweet deal! He went above and beyond to get me a good price, even informing me of an additional discount I was eligible for that I wasn't aware of. Now THAT my friends is customer service! I will continue to support this store because of their Sales Manager. I almost walked out because of the other girl who worked there and wasted a lot of time. My wife and I had called the store to reserve a coffee table on Friday. we were told they could only reserve the table for two hours and not overnight, but that there were at least "two" in stock...so we drove down the next morning, 100 miles, and waited until they opened the next morning. Surprisingly, the table they said was sold...so they did hold overnight, and for more than two hours...We pointed out that we were told that there was another table in the warehouse..but we were met with condescending attitudes and told there was nothing the store could do. We have shopped online with West Elm before, and shopped at our Austin location, and never had a problem...but this makes us never want to shop with West Elm again. read more

Bought a couch that's only damage, or so we thought, was two small but visible stains on the back. No big deal. We decided to purchase this and a nice dining table that just needed some work. A few days go by and our couch sounds like it's breaking and looks like it's caving in right in the middle. My dad is familiar with ulphostery and takes a look at it, turns out the frame of the couch is broken. Awesome. We call and talk to the manager about this, essentially her response was that the prices are low for a reason. Gotta love that! So now we've paid a nice amount for a broken couch. We are not huge fans of outlets but on our way to San Antonio, we saw RH (Restoration Hardware) and West Elm and had to make a stop. West Elm and RH are not in the same area. West Elm is on the south side. Parking is not as crazy. We came here with low expectations but found items that they still sell at the stores for regular price at a fraction of the cost! Our happy big purchase was for the whitewash wood wall art which we have been eyeing and found them here. Brand new in box!! We also found King duvet with matching shams and euro shams. Today, they had extra 40% on bedding, entire store 30%. According to store rep, they always have different promotion. You may want to call if you are looking for something in particular and check if they are doing any promotions. Only con is... if you purchase big items, you need to pick up in the back of the store and load by yourself. The store will bring it up to your car only. I was working with a different associate when anther one came back from break to check in on a couple who had been there for 2hrs trying to secure delivery for a couch. We had picked out a large mirror for purchase and went back to grab a lighting fixture, when we heard another couple say they were "thinking about" our mirror as well. He told them that it was the last one and that they had to have this "statement" piece than proceeded to quickly move it from our items and ring it up. After speaking with Raquel the "Manager" she said there was nothing she could do because the other couple had been in the store longer than us. Ummm, what?! I absolutely LOVE West Elm and regularly drive over an hour from Austin to shop at this West Elm outlet. I called down to the outlet to check the price of a table before driving all the way down there. Unfortunately, I spoke with the most inconsiderate, rude, and unprofessional manager I have EVER spoken with. Her name was Christina and she was so belittling and her tone was extremely frustrated. I should have had the model number before calling but regardless, the way I was spoken to was absolutely unacceptable. I cannot believe the branch would want someone like that to run their store. I just bought a duvet and sheets in the outlet 1 hour ago, super exited I put it in the bed of my hotel room to see how it looked, but is broken in the middle, I hate it!! is something I couldn't check in the store because it was folded and with the ribbon, and now I can't go all the way back!! I went into the store to buy bedding, as I walked in I noticed a sign that said 70% off all bedding. I found the bedding that I wanted and then took it up to register so they could tell me how much the total was going to be. The cashier then told me to do the math myself and wouldn't help me. I decided to go ahead and buy it and I asked if they offered a student discount (as many of the stores in San Marcos do) and the cashier then very rudely said "nope." After I then bought and walked out the cashier then glared at me as I walked out. This is the worst store that I have ever experienced in my life. I would avoid this establishment at all costs. I had the best experience here over the weekend. I just moved to Austin from Chicago and I have no furniture (other than my mattress and I JUST got a bed frame!) since the move was so far, I am on a budget. I went to this sale shop which is about 45 minutes drive from Austin, and let me tell you it was WORTH IT! The customer service and care taken here was incredible to me. Caitlyn and Christina, THANK YOU! Caitlyn spent over 30 minutes going over rug options with me, taking them down, rolling them out, and talking through ideas with me. Never once did she get frustrated or seem busy, she took her time to make sure I found what I really wanted. When I got to the checkout, Christina helped me, she is the best! She also took the time to write down suggestions for food & drink, and things to explore, as I'm new to the area (one week!) and know next to nothing. I truly, truly appreciated that. The staff here takes the time to make your experience memorable and enjoyable. I can't wait to go back here and shop again soon. Even the guys who helped me load my purchases into the car were super awesome!! I wish I got their names, as well, I think one of them was named Christian. Worst customer service on the planet. The manager treated my partner with disrespect as if she was speaking to a second grader. We called in the morning to hold a piece and then messaged from awful traffic that we would just be ten minutes or less late. We have bought a lot of things from this store and the manager is always condescending and rude. My partner walked in and the chair was still there and she was making sure there wasn't anything else she wanted to add and someone bought the chair right in front of her. The manager just kept saying " our hold time is two hours" over and over rather than having any other thing to say. We will not be back unless this person is no longer working at this store.
