I told them if "In case" happened, they could let me know and at that point i could provide it. They said "it is policy". I am a visual artist and have severe "lazy eye" which makes it hard for me to focus both eyes together. As a senior person, I have also developed a retinal condition causing me to see shadow doubles of the edges if things - making it hard to read and drive. Although I have seen opthalmologists before, they did not recognize the complexity of my eyesight the way Dr. Gindorf has been able to, assuring I gave the best possible coreective lenses. She left that practice and joined Dr. Combs. In the meantime our insurance situation changed and my husband thought it would be a nice thing for my eye care to try out C-----, a big box store that has an eyecare dept. At C------, there was a young female Dr. who did the exam, and I opted for the most comprehensive that they offer, and then told me she was switching my contact lens brand as mine were discontinued. When they came in, I was immediately discomfited - distance was fine, but I went from occasionally needing reading glasses to not being able to read anything within three feet without the magnifying glasses. Eventually I went back 3 times wanting to try some other lens, but C----- only offers a very limited menu, so I was stuck. They would not give me a refund for the lenses. A year and a half later, I went sheepishly back to Dr. Sparks and told her what had happened. As soon as I mentioned t he brand that had been sold me, she said that it was the wrong prescription. How did she know so quickly? The brand carried by C------ does not MAKE a lens with my prescription... I now have my new lenses from Combs Eye Care and I am occasionally using the reading glasses again, although my eyes are of course older. In the office when I went to pick them up they tested my eyes with the C----- lenses- I could read only the second line of a diminishing reading test sheet. With the new lenses from Combs, I could read down to the 11th line! I will never switch again.

Her methods are old-school to some, but I've been to the computerized shops and they suck. She takes the time to do a thorough examination. As for how long the appointment takes, that's the nature of the exam. It takes your eyes time to dilate, so yes, you need to sit and wait while that happens. Bring your phone and play solitaire or something. My eyes are super important to me and if getting a thorough exam once a year means being there for an hour or so, I'm going to do that. If you're in a hurry, go see the computer eye exam at the mall.

She and Vicky were great, and the insurance was handled smoothly (we actually have a vision discount through our insurance). They were both professional and friendly, and Dr. Setterlun even asked my wife to bear with her while she handled an urgent walk-in (and gave the person the correct advice that a specialist was what he needed). The prices on services and glasses were competitive, even though we would gladly pay a little more after our multiple disappointments from the big chains (where my wife was misdiagnosed with a cataract, which Dr. Setterlun said was just a badly incorrect prescription.) One funny thing that I noticed is that Dr. Setterlun is a stickler with the answers to her eye exams... You can't say "I don't know" when she tells you to try and make out the letter! You need to try, even if you guess! It's a pleasure to have a local professional who gives such quality services. They both take their time to make sure everything is right. The office is clean and pleasant, although some of the equipment is older than I am (it takes me back to when I was the only kid in my grade school class who had to wear glasses). We'll stick with them as long as the practice is there.

They tell you step by step what they will do and what happens next. They do not rush the process at all so they get it right. The staff does an incredible job as well.
