I had some time before I needed to be to the airport, so I visited the White Plains Public Library on Martine Ave. I found a metered street spot nearby. This library is pretty large with multiple floors and was well-lit and quiet when I visited on a Saturday morning. I loved the big new book section right at the front of the main level, especially the full shelf of new cookbooks (one of my favorite genres)! They had some other really great displays, including one celebrating Jane Austen's 250th birthday and some BookTok books. I saw a seed library, teen area, even an attached cafe. I'm really glad I got to visit this library!

It is quite spacious, with a dedicated tech room, quiet room, and a children's section with a special space for kids' programming. There are lots of floor to ceiling windows, which look out on pleasant views. Great seating options, with and without desks. They also have a cafe with hot and cold beverages and bakery items. They have signs throughout indicating what noise level should be maintained in various sections so you can find the right space for your needs. I came on a Wednesday around 11:30am and the parking lot was packed. I can see why! It's a great place to spend the day. They have an impressive calendar of events for the community and lots of educational resources.

Also upstairs is an audio area to listen to vinyl (and extensive collection of vinyls). Lots of outlets in each workspace area. Very clean, plenty of windows for natural light. The bottom floor has a cafe with a lot of food options. You can only eat in the cafe area, but the options are so diverse (sandwiches, pizza, nuggets, small frittatas) and coffee is very cheap as well. Even the cafe area has a section of outlets. Multiple self check-out desks, both on bottom floor near the cafe and on the main floor. Also several help desk stations (bottom floor, two on main floor, and on top floor). My happy place. The children's room is awesome, with lots of toys, books and a large open play space. The classes are usually packed and are interactive and fun for all the kids. The room that the classes take place in is large so there are no limits to who can attend. Spencer's music class every other Thursday is so fun; everyone has a great time and I'm obsessed with his "Disney medley" song. There are plenty of comfy chairs and private desks to use, a bunch of computers and everything is on a single floor. The parking can be a pain, as is the case with most of the Westchester libraries. The lot is usually full and is one-way, so getting out can be a pain. However, there is usually parking nearby, so it's not impossible, albeit a bit of a walk. The bestttt part about this library is its location and proximity to an awesome playground for younger children. The double swings are so unique, the rubber flooring is young child and post-rain friendly, and it's walkable to a nearby deli, CVS, Dunkin Donuts, etc. We've had some great mornings and afternoons here!

I recently became a father to a 6 month old boy. And visiting this library brings me around full…read morecircle. My mom would bring me here when I was a boy and let my imagination run wild with literary discoveries I still treasure to this day, think Ramona and the Beverly Cleary series of young adult books. I would read and reread and reread these books. It was these simply joys that I recall soo fondly. And now I get to bring our children here and help to instill a love of learning and inquisitiveness. They have many programs for kids of all age ranges. Just pick up a pamphlet with a schedule of events. Its a great library not just for kids but also adults. And best of all it's free. It's a great way to meet other people and for the kids to socialize with others. Our family had fun here playing with toys and participating in an activity in which kids were being taught about juggling and using balloons to create dogs. Fun times for the kids. Great resources here at the library for those who want to utilize them.
