I haven't been to a bowling alley since my beloved Kelley's Hilltop shut its doors for good a few months ago. Luckily, West Lanes is still alive and kicking and close to where I live. It offers everything you want from a classic bowling experience: A musky smell still reminiscent of the good ol' days when everyone smoked inside. Bathrooms that haven't been updated for decades. A spattering of coin operated vending machines and games. A tacky lounge called Blue Magoo that features no fancy drinks and no craft beer. A menu of classic American favs made fresh to order -- we're talking cheeseburgers and fried pickles and all that jazz. Plus, pretty decent bowling lanes that automatically switch to "cosmic" mode once 9 p.m. hits on the weekends. And a decent crowd on a Saturday night to round things out. Yeah, I still enjoy grabbing a few friends, a couple pitchers of Keystone Light and throwing some rocks, and West Lanes is a perfect spot to do so. read more

We've done a couple of holiday parties here with Yelp over the last 2 years, and they have shown consistent customer service and offer a good time with bowling. It's a classic/divey joint. They don't have the latest and the greatest in terms of their technology and decor, but you can still have some fun with standard lanes of bowling. My vibe is more updated than retro, but the lockers rooms and decades old bathrooms are pleasant enough for even picky me. Cosmic bowling is always fun with cheap beer pitchers, fried finger foods, and friends. Give this small business a chance, it would be sad to loose the "old timey" joints in Omaha. read more

Classic retro bowling alley. Think Kingpin meets The Big Lebowski. Yes, take in the bar (if you are able) it is just so right on. For our sons last day of Kindergarten we decided to surprise him with a first ever family bowling excursion. The Magic began when our toddler fell asleep in the car and we actually had her stroller with us. She slept through the entire racket of it all (over 2 hours). We couldn't be happier to have rediscovered the joy of bowling and finally shared it as a family. My Dad has a collection of earned 70s' bowling trophies and I opted for Bowling 101 as my undergrad PE requirement. We signed up for the Summer Kids Bowl Free program and the gentleman behind the counter knew exactly what to do for it. The place was not busy and initially the above mentioned gentleman was all business - however Kenny opened up like a flower and man does he take care of things. He did everything there - front desk, worked the bar and made our food (burger, nachos, chili cheese fries, wings...) Really nice guy. The food was bowling alley food akin to stadium food ... you know what to expect and this was not out of the ordinary, but Kenny does know how to make that burger and layer on the chili cheese. Then another man, whom we were advised is a descendant of the original 1955 owners, came by to see how we were doing and offered our son 4 free tickets to a Hans Solo showing. After bowling two strikes (we don't use bumper rails people) this about blew our kids mind, but it got better... they had a photo booth and our son wanted to have a hand at the Claw game. Oh yes, The Claw, designed for failure yet... our kid won on his first try and to his sisters delight a pink dragon baby thing that she has yet to put down became hers. Upon opening the door the reminiscent smell of irreversible years of cigarettes, tipsy drinks and air freshener hit us like a bomb. My memories wanted for that icy blast common in bowling alleys, but sadly not to be found here. However this was no matter because this place rocked. Clean establishment with a friendly staff. We are signing up for the kids bowl free family pass because this may become a bit of an old school habit that embraces family night with physical activity, friendly competition and bowling alley grub. read more

So I have driven by this place a million times without realizing it was ever there. It's hidden a block off the corner of 72nd and Dodge. Never would've guess a bowling alley was there! Also, they were open on Christmas! Awesome. Standard bowling place, reasonable prices, and very friendly staff. They have a full bar and bathrooms with the tiniest doors I have ever seen. It had been years since going to West Lanes. So long, in fact, that I forgot where to turn to get in. It's just behind the old Furniture Row building going North on 72nd. When I lived elsewhere I would go to Hilltop, but that was kinda grimey. Stepping into West Lanes, for me, was like walking into the Big Lobowski or more like Kingpin. Clean and inviting. Cool looking murals and plenty of lanes. I was taken back to times at the Ranch Bowl when there was still a great music venue in town. The staff here are really great. Friendliest bartender I have met in a while. the cooks are fun also. The food was on par for what I expected. Awesome fried cheese curds or Mozz bites, tasty pretzels with the non fancy Nacho cheeze on the side and fresh fries. they have chicken wings too, but I didn't have them. The guy behind the shoe counter was nice and friendly. Even when I asked for a bigger pair, he exchanged them and helped the line of people with a smile. The music was just loud enough and the beer (Coors, PBR, Blue Moon, and Miller) is cold. I'm glad to have gone again and I can't wait to go again! read more

There seems to be a need for another person to work here as the main cashier was seen running around doing a lot of tasks: running the register, maintenance on the lanes as well. The people on the lane near us had to be relocated because the lane kept malfunctioning and I understand him not having time to fix it. I felt bad though because he had them move only to add new bowlers to the lane a few minutes later causing them to have to move also. The snack bar was another fun experience where customer service isn't really something that concerns the staff. The guy was on a stool and seemed annoyed that I was there while a lady was very friendly and seemed to be doing most of the work. My nachos and fried pickles were not anything to write home about but they did go nicely with my super affordable beer from the Blue Magoo Lounge! I do like how close to home this place is. I am a little confused about the pricing as it changes throughout the night. The fun part was the cosmic bowling! I loved the music and the lights, it created a super fun atmosphere! Not sure how quickly I will go back but I will some day. read more

What to say about this place...It's a bit of a time capsule. At first this place seems run down and dingy (which it kinda is), but once you get past that, it's a genuine dive that hasn't really been updated in 50 years. A group of us decided to go bowling and drink a little beer for a team outing for work, and this was where we decided to go. Tons of lanes, so we rented our shoes, grabbed a ball and the pitchers flowed. All in all we had a good time and would come back. Our family and friends celebrated our son's surprise 30th birthday on Saturday. Mike and all other employees made it very easy for us to set up long before the party began in the party room , we had 2 bowling lane's conviently close to the room so we could bowl and visit with our guests . We also had plenty of time to clean up and continue to bowl .The prices for bowling were very nice as well . Everything went perfectly , we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!!!! We went on a Wednesday around 4ish. Bill seemed to hate his life and his existence which caused some pretty bad customer service. He changed his tune once I asked his name. Not that he got all cheerful, but he stopped rolling his eyes and acting like I was annoying him with general questions about pricing, shoes, and when to pay. $2.00 for a fountain drink less than 20 oz and $3.50 for bottles of Budweiser. I'm only here visiting but if I lived here I'd only come for the prices. 3 people, shoes, and 1 game was $19. Another game would have been about $29. That's not bad to me. read more

This was our first time Visiting West Lanes and we were very Impressed. Bill was very Friendly and Courteous he even helped me pick out a house ball that was not too heavy nor to light.
