The staff was helpful and the manager Justin was the biggest help. He gave us helpful hints of the area and the best places to snorkel. We bought our gear to snorkel here and the staff helped us decide which was best for what we wanted to do. Very happy with our well made quality gear! read more

West Marine - Terrible location for a boat store - Boating Near Me - Key Largo, Florida

Not really sure why this location has such low reviews, but this probably one of the better west marines in Florida. Sure they are expensive, but boats are expensive. When you step inside west marine you know you are going to have to shell out some cash. Staff has always been friendly and attentive. On this last visit we were in getting anchors but shopped the store and got a few other items as well. Staff was constantly helping and giving advice. The other reviews here are a bit old so many the store went thru management changes but as of 2015/16 the store has been awesome. read more

Don't do it! They change their return policies at random and do not honor their OUTRAGEOUS prices. We purchased a defective rod/reel combo, broke the first day, we only asked to exchange for the same merchandise and were told to pound sand. Was just purchased, had receipt and were just looking for an exchange for non defective product. Manager refused to come out of hidey hole office and sales clerk incapable of customer service. Don't pay those outrageous prices and expect a drop of customer service because it does not exist. They do not stand by their products and you will be left with a giant pile of crap. read more

I went in today to return a battery today that I purchased a month ago. West Marine has a 1 year guarantee on their batteries. I also returned a 2nd core and bought a 2nd battery. Ivan, the store manager, proceeded to diagnose both batteries, and told me that the one month old battery was fine, that it just needed a charge. I could have returned the battery right then and there, but opted not to since I figured charging was worth a shot. I purchased a charger and a jump starter to have in the future, and left the battery charging. After a couple hours of the battery charging, nothing happened so I went into the store again to return the battery. Ivan proceed to yell at me saying I did not know anything about how batteries worked, and "you think you're slick don't you!" "Don't even think about trying to return the 2nd battery in the future!" I stated West Marine has a no hassle return policy, and he waived me off saying it was only for batteries that were the wrong size. I told him my battery was the wrong size then, and I wanted my money back. They gave me a gift card, I walked down, picked up a new battery and purchased with the gift card. I then went back and returned the jump starter, and battery charger, which I had planned on keeping. Ivan, you are a horrible manager. Learn how to treat people. What a joke. read more

In this past weekend I was here twice a day. The first time to buy something, the second time to bring it back and fix their mistake. On Saturday it was the stern navigation light, I needed a stowaway light kit, and was having issues finding the right screw pattern. When I asked for help, we found the right screw pattern, and the gentleman assured me that it was stowaway when I asked. Got home, and went to install it, to see it wasn't stowaway, so I drove back up, and found the right one on my own this time. On Sunday I went up to get a trailer ball lock, so nobody can hook up to my boat trailer. When I got home, the key was missing. The Key was Missing! What kind of bullshit was that?! So I had to make another trip up there. The sad part is that since Boater's World went out of business, they don't have any real competition for at least 20 miles, so they can get away with this crap. My new solution is to plan better before leaving Miami, next time I go to the keys. read more

I have a theory on why this store is getting mixed reviews: If you're a guy with a real mechanical type problem, they're not very helpful. They have the shit, you just got to know what you're doing and find it yourself. If you're a girl looking for accessories, they got everything! Ditto to Chris. This place... wow. Third time's the charm, eh? 1. Went in to find boat lettering (which is way back in the store) and if you've been here before, things can be a bit difficult to find. After wandering around for a few minutes, I went to the counter and asked someone for help. They took me to the lettering and walked away. After a quick glance I noticed they were out of a few letters that I needed and *employee* was still close so I asked him if they had any additional letters in the back. He shrugged and walked away. Not even a verbal answer. Strike one. 2. Went with the boyfriend to ask for help about our motor. We were having trouble with the power trim and were looking for advice about some cheap fixes before calling a mechanic. Man responds, "I'll go get *employee*, he knows a lot about boats." -Brings back employee- We explain the situation to him and he recommends trim lube. We ask him where to put it and he says, "I don't know," and walks away. Strike two. 3. Had to return something today. Waited in line for over ten minutes, not exaggerating, while one girl was the only one checking people out. When it was my turn, I had the package and the receipt was right on top. I said, "I'd like to return this please," and the girl behind the counter says, "Umm, do you have the receipt?" in a nasty tone of voice. Funny thing was, she picked up my item WITH THE RECEIPT IN HER HAND before she asked. I told her she had it in her hand and she looked up at me with disdain and began the return process. She did not say another word until she handed me two receipts, one of which had a bottom portion for me to fill out. They wanted my name, phone number, address and email. So I asked her if I had to fill out all of that information (as I do not prefer to be on a mailing list of any kind) and she shrugged her shoulders and said, "I don't know!" again with the nasty attitude. Strike three, West Marine. You're out. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS. Go down the street or to Tavernier Marina. yes, this store is expensive. Unfortunately, if you live here they are the only game in town. NEVER buy electronics here. Bought a Garmin fish finder and could not get it to operate properly after being told twice that it would be compatible for our boat. Salesman, Ken contacted Garmin who said to place the transducer on bottom of boat. That is not feasible because of putting it on trailer and the boat can draw 11 inches of water. He said he would speak again to Garmin and call us. He never called and when questioned about it he would barely talk to us. Will have to find a store(not West) on the mainland to shop or order online. This has caused us to lose valuable time on the water and had to drill numerous holes in our boat. read more

I asked the manager Ivan to price match a part from a Miami tackle store that was 52 miles away. He would not match the price due to their policy of 50 mike radius. I said work with me and he screamed at me and said "don't you understand what I said". At that point I was embarrassed and people were looking at me like I was a thief or did something wrong. I wandered around the store and then noticed he was on the phone with another disgruntled customer yelling at that person over a return. The point I couldn't help but notice that Ivan "the manager" should have gone into his office literally 10 feet away and dealt with the customer behind closed doors instead of in the front customers. I would score them a zero if a zero were available. read more

They are a little expensive, but they are the only place around with a decent supply of boat equip. You get the customer service you deserve. and if you can't tell a stowaway stern nav light in the store, perhaps we'd all be alot safer if you stayed on land. read more
