After hearing a few people speak highly of West Marine for nautical supplies and some heavier duty marine-grade rigging equipment, I've gotta say I was disappointed in this particular store. I needed an item that I wasn't sure they'd carry, though it's a pretty common item for larger boats and yachts. I came here at about 6 p.m. on a Tuesday, and I must have seen 6 people working in teams, stocking and organizing their merchandise, but only 1 guy who was actually available and helping customers when needed. I literally walked around this entire store twice, spent more than 15 minutes here (it's not a large place), obviously the employees could see that I was reading the signage in the aisles and looking at the different displays trying to find what I was looking for, but not once did anyone offer assistance or ask if I needed something. I couldn't find what I needed, grew frustrated at the lack of customer assistance and left. I'm not planning to come back here, either, as I found another marine/boat supply store about 3 blocks away which may not be as clean or modern-looking as West Marine, it's not a chain like West Marine, but it has a better variety of items, a better selection, and most of all, better customer service with people who were eager to assist me. read more

Unbelievable how rude and combative the staff member was when I asked if they sold stainless steel wire mesh for use in repairing a polyethylene kayak. If you don't have it, cool, but when you start arguing with the customer over how to fix the repair and criticize their method even while their walking for the door that's without a doubt crossing the line. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I visited this location looking for an inflatable kayak on 5/12. They had none in stock. So they ordered one for me on line. As I returned home that same day I found a cheaper inflatable Kayak with paddles included somewhere else. I immediately called the customer services center, emailed the customer service center and call directly to the store to cancel the order. Once I finally got someone on the line they said it was too late and I would have to wait to receive the shipment to return it as it's already been shipped. 2 days later I receive an email that the kayak was being shipped (LIES). It is now 5/22 and I still have not received a full refund and or Kayak to return. If I don't receive a full refund in the next few days I will be taking legal action. I will never purchase or recommend West Marine to anyone. Terrible customer service. read more

A few years ago when I was engaged in more boating activities, this was my go to place to get my gear and repair tools and materials. Didn't quite find much help, they are well stocked but you are pretty much on your own. Nowadays in the information age, help is not as necessary since I research everything on line first and then simply go shopping. It is still good to know they're there, I still go to pick up some hard to find items, mostly on behalf of friends who are not in close proximity to Miami and don't have much access to this kind of stuff. Helpful staff is highly desirable since not everyone has the ability or inclination to do their research ahead of time and still rely on help provided by the staff. read more

This store seems to be more short staffed than other West Marines that I have shopped. I usually have to wait up to ten minutes until a staff member has finished with another customer. When I do find the staff member they focus on me and the solution I need. They are knowledgeable and all have first hand experience on the water. I appreciate this level of expertise since you just can't look up a parts list for a make of boat like you can at an auto parts store. I also appreciate that they are where they are, kind of like the old neighborhood hardware store that has since disappeared. They are also kind of organized like an old time hardware store--cramped and cramed isles. It is a small store, but they have always had what I need, maybe not what I wanted. Pro Tip: Sign up for their card so you can keep up with their sales which have large discounts. If you can manage your marine purchases over a year, you can usually get what you want at a good 25% plus discount. read more

I have been a loyal West Marine customer for 20 years. I will NEVER shop here again. They sold me used speakers and I promptly returned to the store after opening the box and noticing the rusty damaged speakers. The staff was very rude, and unwilling to help fix the situation. The manager Lorena was extremely unprofessional, unknowledgeable and unhelpful. It amazes me how such an incapable and disrespectful person can have the title of manager at a West Marine. They did not refund me or replace the speakers, rather tried to blame me for switching them out with old ones!!! I showed proof of the time stamped receipt upon my return to the store 20 minutes after purchase. The manager still treated me as if I were a theif. I was given 0 compensation and had to incur a $400 loss. I will NEVER return to West Marine... I really hope this staff is replaced especially the awful manager Lorena. Crook and Crook now has my business. read more
