He was very patient with each question, and he seemed very knowledgeable regarding magnification, range, and special features relative to value. He helped me pick a good pair, and then he showed me some braces and supports of various types that might support my back. I decided on the Copper brand waist support. The store was not so busy at that time, but it still seemed as if he gave me the best service I've had at any sporting goods store--including other Big 5 stores. Bet the amount of time I've spent on a bike all rolled together adds into years worth of time…read more Grew up on them in the city, was an NYC bike messenger before the internet killed them like it killed travel agents, weekend round trips from SF to top of Tam and back again later on which was brutal but perfect. So many hours and days on bikes. And then, after moving to a place where biking wasn't all that anymore and Oakland streetscapes turned into a screen from a super Mario game I gave the last bike away and didn't look back. But a few weekends ago we were all what shall we do why not head to Monterey and rent a bike and ride on that cool trail from downtown along the dunes to who knows where. And thanks to the friendly red asterisk searching tool we picked Workhorse as the provider of our two wheeled adventure and it was an excellent choice. Besides the bicycles themselves, which were tuned with good tires and brakes and perfect for the task, the entire experience was top shelf. Clean shop, many new and used bikes that I now long for again and need to move out of super Mario land so I can ride again. Professional helpful friendly staff. Their workbench in service shop area was so clean! Good mechanics take care of their tools. Price point for four ppl for 2 and a half hours less than a hundred clams and these days that feels like a super bargain. Fun for the entire family.

My only complaint is that the wetsuits I rented from them were super old and had holes, and were super leaky. It wasn't just me, I noticed the other woman who also was renting gear had a hole in her wetsuit as well. It felt like the wetsuit didn't do much for me- when I got into the water the cold went right through me- and I've been cold water diving before in Monterey and know how it feels when a wetsuit works and hasn't degraded to this point. Renting gear can be a hit or miss- Monterey bay waters are sooo cold! And comfortability during cold water dives matter a LOT - otherwise you just use up a lot of air and get too cold/shivers. I think it's part of the responsibility of the dive shop to make sure that the wetsuits are still adequate for diving, and to rotate in better condition suits and toss the ones that are ready to go.
