Needed 50 feet of chain for the replacement anchor on our boat. West marine had what we needed. Including shackles to connect the chain to the anchor. Friendly and helpful staff quickly measured out the 50 feet, cut the chain, got us a cart to put it in, and wrote out the ticket. read more

1 star. It's a really neat store with harder to find items in store but the employees are pretty horrible. There was about 10 male employees all just hanging out and even walking by and looking right at you with eye contact and never said even hi and definitely did not offer any assistance or care to ask if we needed any help. Management PLEASE RETRAIN your employees. Again none of them even asked us if they could help us not one even said Hello after just staring at us like WTF? The bathroom was flooded looked like the toilet and urinal were both flooded or leaking and no one bothered to clean it up instead they just put a slippery sign on the floor. With 10 employees hanging around not doing crap, one of them could have mopped the bathroom or tried to do something about the leak or flood right? I've heard many people say they get their cars towed just by parking right in front of the store which is beyond a slap in the face. I believe West Marine is doing an internal overhaul based on my recent shopping experiences there and some staff changes. This is showing a lot of promise to negate some of the negative reviews I've seen here. We recently purchased a Garmin unit that was incorrectly paired for the type of electronics we needed to pair with and the newer store manager Andrew Weeks was absolutely on the ball in getting us corrected and back out the door painlessly. I like to go to West Marine in Newport Beach to purchase boating supplies, marine accessories and clothing. It's not a huge marine warehouse (it's not a Costco-size massive warehouse) but it's well-stocked, spacious and very clean. If an item I want to purchase is not stocked in the store, I can often order it from West Marine online. So far, West Marine's prices have been very competitive and their prices get even better when West Marine is having an advertised sale. One of the things I like best about West Marine is having the chance to converse with "live" employees who are very knowledgeable about specific products. For instance, I asked for assistance from "Abby" in connection with personal flotation devices to be used for off-shore sailing and racing. Abby provided me with information about different PDFs as well as information about some other sailing products that interested me. Abby is an experienced sailor herself. Ask for Abby! Every coastal community with marinas, harbors, and backbays needs a shop that caters to the marintine activities be they fishing, surfing, boating, or whatever. This, the largest of the locations I'm aware of, is really a one-stop place to shop. If I had a boat I'd be out fishing as much as possible, and the materials for maintenance and on board sonor made me fantasize a moment about past experiences sailing on the Great Lakes, Cap Cod, Buzzards Bay, and the Gulf of Mexico. The fishing tackle and rod section in this store is impressive and I plan to browse again soon. Need a new cooler? No problem! The sportswear and shoes section of the store has been our primary target and I'm very happy with the water shoes and flip-flops purchased here. When stuff is on sale go to town! Parking is nice and the store is around the corner from Bear Flag and across the street from the Lido Marina shops. While free, mind the time to avoid citation or getting towed As shown in the photos, there's a lot here and not all of it is prohibitively expensive. read more

Multiple employees just standing around uninterested in helping. No one knew anything about the products we were looking for. Item we found was marked $18 but when we went to the checkout it was $44. Put it back and attempted to get squid but the employee showed us every other type of bait. Left frustrated without purchasing anything. Will not return to the Newport location. I have been to multiple West Marine's all over the West Coast and usually the staff is very friendly and helpful. Not this one. I assume they really don't "need" to work and it shows. read more

This is in the old Albertsons supermarket location which was right next to the old Newport beach City Hall n at the entry to Lido Island. Actually this is part of Lido village. I have never seen a more complete store of this type anywhere. You can buy everything from small boats to deck shoes. Everything in between including a fantastic offering of men's and women's outdoor wear geared especially towards the sea and ceiling. They also have a complete diving department, Water skiing department and all the other aquatic sports. Excellent selection of sunglasses and shoes as well. Every one of the sales staff is extremely knowledgeable on all of the merchandise. Parking is very easy, plus you're right next to several restaurants and even a Starbucks after you shop here. read more

'Haven't had a boat for a long time so I went to West Marine Newport Beach seeking "experienced" advice for rigging my new boat. Liz assisted me. My questions involved proper length of rope and chain for my anchor rode... among other things. She knew exactly what I needed, explained everything to me in detail, and put the order together for me. She suggested a possible 48 hour turn around but promptly called me the next day to let me know my order was ready. Simple stuff. My review is about Geoffrey in the Rigging Department. I called on a Monday morning when everywhere was super busy. They took down my number and told me they would call me back. Within minutes I received a call from Geoffrey. I thought since it was such a little job, nobody would help us. We are on our cal 29 on anchor at the moment and it would be a 3 mile walk to the west marine rig shop. It was very important that I could have help over the phone before walking all of that way. Geoffrey was so PATIENT with me and UNDERSTANDING. he took his time and paid close attention to detail. I was so surprised that he was able to find each part and help me all via text message. I'm at the anchorage and my phone calls kept dropping. He took the time to text with me and give me an amazing quote!!! Every time I think of West marine, I think of $$$$$$!!! However, I was so surprised and happy with my quote. Only bummer was the part takes 2 days. For special order but I'm still so happy with the customer service that GEOFFREY offered us. His knowledge, encouragement and professionalism should be acknowledged and rewarded. We had to get up the mast in a bosom chair to get the part that Geoffrey was looking for and it took his encouragement and hope to help us get this project done. We are replacing our lower aft shroud. Anyway, whenever I'm in Newport Beach, I will check out West Marine Rig Shop and talk to Geoffrey so I can get some more pieces of my rigging replaced in the future. Thank you!!!! read more

Pretty unimpressed with the customer service. I ordered an item to pick up in store. Emily called me the next day. First, I'm not sure where phone etiquette went but when you call someone you should introduce yourself prior to asking for whomever you're calling...I knew that by the time I was 7. Second, she was calling to tell me that they did not actually have the item so they would be cancelling my order. She gave me the option to reorder for pick up or home delivery but not once did she ever apologize for the inconvenience. Its understandable that this happens with all stores and it's not totally within their control perhaps but at the very least you could utter the words "I'm sorry that happened." She was not rude but I definitely don't think she demonstrated good customer service that would encourage me to shop here again. read more

I knew they closed at 6:00pm, but my navigation said my ETA was 6:01. I'm driving about 30 minutes to get here, and I didn't want to waste an hour of my time, so I give the store a call. A lady answers the phone, and sounds very helpful. I explain the situation and she says she will bring the items I'm looking for up to the register so that even if I'm late, I can still check out without keeping them open. I get to the store at 6:02, and they're closed. I call them back, and a man answers. He says they're closed. I explain my situation, while looking at him through the door. He says sorry, we're closed, we open back up at 8am (as if that's in any way helpful). I ask if the lady I spoke to was there (as a see a female employee walk past him) and he says sorry we are closed. This store is 24000 sf It has the most wan apparel of west marines I've seen at Santa Barbara Oxnard ventura Oceanside The clothing sale for Columbia off gear was great I got to take advantage of a 25% off manager sale that allowed me to get $50 Columbia shirts for $29 my wife got three pairs of shoes that were normally $49 for $19 and $29 shirt selection is excellent the short selections excellent they have really knowledgeable staff the store is really clean and not crowded and there is plenty of parking on the back They were having a sidewalk sale for Claire and out of the shoes that I thought was really great now is the best time to come. It looks like they have a fishing reel roller they have a very in-depth voting section and fishing section they have some of the best selection of cold-weather gear and waterproof jackets that I've seen ever read more

Just got done having another great experience here at the Lido West Marine and wanted to let them know we will be coming back for all our boating needs. Some say these guys are a little pricier than online or other shops, but I think they are the best at customer service and have the best selection of merchandise; and sometimes you just can't beat going to a store and talking to guys in person. Yesterday, Hunter was one of the most helpful people I have ever come across in a retail setting. Recently West Marine was having a sale on a cheap stereo setup, 4 speakers and a radio by Dual, that I had purchased thinking we were going to be selling our Duffy. After deciding not to sell I thought it would just get us by for a few seasons. When my radio installer guy came by to install the equipment, he refused to install the crappy set up and told me to go back and get something better. I called West Marine and Hunter was able to talk me through a whole new setup, graciously enough take back the old system, but help me get it all done as the store was closing for the day. He wasn't trying to rush out, but instead took the time to tell me about the benefits of joining their Gold program and the money it saved me along with warranty options for the new system. I am overall very happen with the staff and selection of items and will be returning with all our boating needs. read more

(Radar, Plotter, fish finder, auto-pilot etc) I literally waited 45 minutes for someone to assist me who never did. I ended up going online and buying everything later that day. I had to update since they have new ownership. I was hoping they turned things around. Not so much. They did get rid of crazy, weird, mean, drew carry show Mimi make-up lady. Getting her out makes a huge difference. They have a rigging that is interesting to say the least. I needed a piece of rope for a project I'm working on. While inspecting the stuff in front of the rigging shop I found the poor guy in the rigging shop was struggling to make a simple eye splice. He was struggling despite having a great shop and the best tools. After looking at the rope in front of the rigging shop they didn't have what I was looking for. I went to go into the back and look at rope (something I've done for years). The guy struggling to make an eye splice stopped me. He said I could've come back and look at rope for liability reasons. The only ones suffering from liability issues are West Marine if they sell this guys eye splices... lol. I ended up having to tell this rude incompetent dude that I'd go elsewhere and they lost another sale. Good ole West Marine still teaching people to shop elsewhere after all these years.
