The wait at the gun counter is long, because the location is fairly busy. Buying guns take a decent amount of time in California. They aren't going to magically go faster just because you are in a hurry. Have realistic expectations, have your forms of IDs in order, and you'll be good to go to buy your gun. Additionally, the archery and fishing departments have very knowledgeable staff and are a huge wealth of information.

Needed 50 feet of chain for the replacement anchor on our boat…read more West marine had what we needed. Including shackles to connect the chain to the anchor. Friendly and helpful staff quickly measured out the 50 feet, cut the chain, got us a cart to put it in, and wrote out the ticket.

The bathroom was flooded looked like the toilet and urinal were both flooded or leaking and no one bothered to clean it up instead they just put a slippery sign on the floor. With 10 employees hanging around not doing crap, one of them could have mopped the bathroom or tried to do something about the leak or flood right? I've heard many people say they get their cars towed just by parking right in front of the store which is beyond a slap in the face. Ivan helped show me a pistol and explained all the features of this newer weapons system. He was very knowledgeable and personable. I purchased the gun and this was my first time completing all the DROS paperwork via a computer tablet. Much of the information was pre populated after scanning my CDL. It was a much easier process compared to the old paper form. They have an excellent selection of both handguns and long guns here. would highly recommend and they even had a nice and clean restroom. I asked him about the gen 5 glocks and he cut me off to say all glocks are illegal to sell in CA. Not what I was asking about and also false. I then was trying to inquire about a Ruger mark 4 and he was rude about how they have them but won't sell them but can order them. I still don't understand what he meant other than out of stock maybe? Anyway. Another customer came up behind me and asked this man a question and he scolded the customer and said he was with me, he was not and dragged me into it for some reason. He eventually got rid of the prospect and I proceeded to tell him I didn't want or need his help and to help the man he ignored. Instead he called up the next person in queue. Ironically enough, an employee was going off on a phone or radio about giving the best customer satisfaction possible lol. I almost said something to him but he was so hyped and happy, unlike mr grumps at the gun counter. Aside from that and what drove me away from purchasing a new firearm that day, the guys working Ammo and the fishing department were amazing. The sign on the shelf for 4oz and 8oz ISO did not specify which brand so I asked a friendly associate. I didn't know that JetBoil branded isobutane canister can be used for MSR and vice versa. Cool beans! Also, the 8oz is a better deal than the 4oz and the only disadvantage is that it won't fit inside the JetBoil pot. The cashier asked if I want to apply some past credit I forgot about which brought the total expense even less! While there, I checked out the latest trail running footwear which I am due to be acquiring as well! Came in the middle of the week at 3pm and very few shoppers.

EVA and manager AARON falsely accused me of returning the wrong item, even though the item matched my REI account, app, original tags, barcode, and product details. They made this accusation in front of my family and other customers, which was very embarrassing. I asked them a simple question: "What exactly is different?" They refused to answer. That tells me they had no real answer. They accused me first, then avoided explaining their own accusation. While EVA was still processing the return, AARON told me to leave and threatened security for no valid reason. After all that, they still processed the return. So the item was correct all along. This was a false accusation, poor judgment, zero accountability, and terrible management. REI leadership should review this incident seriously.

We normally get our running shoes from another business where they're very knowledgeable about their shoes. Sejan was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. The experience was so good that I bought another pair of shoes for the wife, knowing that they were $30 cheaper at another store. At the time, I did not know if Dick's would price match an item if I found it less somewhere else. It turns out that they do, and I was later refunded the difference. Ordered a life jacket that was on sale for $24.98 via the Dick's app. I was going paddle boarding…read morethat day so I set the pick-up location for Newport Beach since I'd be out there later. I went on July 3rd around 1 pm so parking was horrendous. I parked near Barnes & Nobles and took the escalator down to the store. Before I entered the store I checked my order on my phone and noticed I got the wrong size. I walked in and didn't see a sign for online pick-up orders so just went to a register with a cashier. I walked up to them (there was young employee and an older employee having a conversation at the register) and let them know I was there to pick up an online order and the guy at the register looked up my order. As he was doing that, I informed him that I would need to exchange it for a large/extra large and he said sure. He went to grab my online order from the wall, came back and handed it to me and said have a good day and began busying himself with something else. I stood there for a few seconds and asked him if he could please let me know where these life jackets were located because I need to exchange it for a bigger size (second time letting him know this). He then said it was in the back corner and pointed to the back corner. Where it fell short for me is that I let him know I would need to exchange it and either it didn't clock for him to fulfill my request by going and getting the larger size and bringing it back to the register OR he straight up ignored my request and didn't want to go get it. I'm going to say he straight up ignored my request and didn't want to go get it. At that point, I would rather just pick my online order up from a Amazon locker type contraption, go to the back and get the correct sized life jacket, then exchange it and self-checkout myself. I'm against getting rid of humans for jobs, but if the in-person experience is worse than dealing with a computer screen, then I would rather deal with the computer screen. Also, I realize this is a store that highers young people, but it's a branding issue if you don't have pride in training your employees to go above and beyond. In this case, it would have been taking a few extra steps to go get the life jacket size I needed, bringing it back to the register and completing an exchange. Not a crazy ask in my opinion, and it's a standard customer service request and it was not busy at all during this time. It could've been better and for the reason of parking being a little more stressful than other locations and poor customer service, I'd suggest going to another Dick's Sporting Goods or Big 5.
