All the nostalgic feels are here at Coachlite Skate Center! We've been here several times and also hosted a kid's birthday party here - we're big fans of what they're doing! The rink itself is in good condition and the amenities are all in place: skate rental, lockers, concessions (accessible on skate). They have party rooms but seem to be currently under construction. Big improvements are on the way from the looks of it. Where this place really went above and beyond for us was a last-minute kids birthday party. Originally we were going to host at home and then go the rink but plans abruptly changed and Coachlite came through! They setup tables for us and made us feel very welcome. (Thank you!) I used to visit Coachlite as a teen and I am glad to see the business still exists. I have fond memories of skating here as a kid, and now attending as an adult, parent, and customer. Coachlite is about to close, temporarily, for renovations until October 2025. But I look forward to visiting and seeing the renovations completed. It is definitely a dated facility, but a fun place for kids and big kids alike. Been coming here for 20+ years and it remains timeless. They have a retro vibe and the music is usually very good. I have had birthday parties here as a kid and they still offer the party room if you want to host one as well, it's very fun. I like that they have music theme skates and adults only skate available on different nights of the week. Truly a fun for all ages place. They also host amazing roller derby races if you like that! I've not skated here myself but I've attended 3 roller derby events, in support of my fav team Chicago-Style Roller Derby, and it's been a solid experience each time! The space is large enough to host a big event like this, enough seating space for fans, area for vendors, food for sale. (Long but could save a drive) We went to Coachlite for a birthday party.The customer service is unwelcoming and dry. Our hostess was sweet, but young and inexperienced/untrained in the service industry. Due to the hostess being inexperienced and not stating "additional rules" our birthday girl caught more pretend money than was allowed. Instead of honoring the hostess mistake, the management made her put it all back and do it all over again.The pizza we were severed seemed like Aldi's brand ($3.85), simply popped in the oven and up charged to roughly $13. Even worse the smell when they burned it, is putrid, filling the entire dining space. The skating floor is even and smooth, but could use a glaze of sorts. Also, don't expect to record your skating experience because no phones are allowed on the skating floor. If you like to capture social memories, don't expect to because it is not allowed on the skating floor. Additionally, those of the LGBTQ+ community, stand to be offended/annoyed by the constant request of certain genders skating at a time. There were a host of additional rules that take from the experience of being at a roller rink and having fun. For example, I was standing still holding my son watching the birthday girl for the second time collecting cash, while I understand the safety concerns, I didn't think it was necessary for the management to rudely approach me, and demand me to no longer hold my baby. I was told it was in their list of rules. When I asked where can I would find this rule, the management walked away. Coachlite is such an interesting experience. The place is like taking a Time Machine and traveling back in time to the 80s. According to rumors, the place is under new ownership. I can't speak for what the old owners were like or what the place was like prior to the new owners, but what I can say is that the new owners seem friendly. They've been boasting new party rooms and construction to make the place seem more modern and comfortable, which definitely seems like a great idea for this place. The building itself has a very rustic charm to it. Everything in there is definitely catered to that 80s vibe. From the floors, to the paint, to the rink itself, you can tell this place has a lot of history to it. The DJ here is awesome. I've only ever been here on adult skate nights, but his playlist is great. Amazing music. I found some new tracks because of him! The employees here are all very nice. Everyone is very friendly and forthcoming to help. The place also has a lot of regulars that are also very friendly and willing to help you. Imagine being on the set of a Netflix show, that's kind of what this place feels like. It doesn't feel real sometimes. Pair that up with the amazing skills of the skaters here and it's like going into another world. The place does not serve alcohol, but they do have soft drinks, snacks, and icees at the concession stands. They also have a vending machine for pop, but the machine does eat quarters, so I recommend just going to the concession stand. The bathrooms here are pretty basic. Be careful if you go into the bathrooms with skates or blades on because the floor is on a slant and you might find yourself rolling backwards while using the toilet. The lockers area is a little dated. It's nice to have lockers, but they are only one time use. So if you need to dig into your locker to get a water bottle, you'll have to pay again to use it. The actual rink is very nice. The whole experience is very fun. I have a blast here. For what we pay in admission ($10) + $5 for skate rentals (unless you own a pair of skates or blades), it's very reasonable. Overall, I do recommend Coachlite. It's one of the only rinks in the area. I do have some suggestions though: 1. Consider painting the rink floor and create three "lanes" of different colors. The lane closest to the center would be for slow riders. The middle lane is medium speed. And then the outer lane is fast riders. 2. Consider doing some fun artwork on the walls. Pac-Man references? Mario? Or even just generic pixel art. Or something like that. 3. The seating area where the lockers are doesn't have back rests. I think it would be cool if the seating area where the lockers are could have chairs with back support. 4. Consider upgrading the lockers to be more than a one time use. 5. Why does the entrance have two numbered doors? The numbering is a little confusing. Overall, Coachlite is a really cool skating hub. There's not a lot of competition in the area at all, so it's a great place to go and be part of a skating/roller blading community. Everyone is very nice and prices are very reasonable. The place also has a very diverse community, and it's pretty cool being able to be amongst a group of people where everyone is friendly, no matter what walk of life you come from. They don't care about their customers and you would be able to tell if you looked into their nasty bathrooms. Here is the math broken down for money missed out on so far so maybe ADMISSIONS MISSED: 4 (x2 People) Total Amount Missed on Admission: $120 One drink per person per session $2.50 x 3 = $7.50 = $30 PER PERSON on drink sales. I've been skating for 8 months in Boise, Idaho expecting when I came here in Chicago, to be at a really nice skating ring. After coming to this place, it was very crowded and of the employees were already shouting at me for not having jam plugs or toe stops. I agree to buying the jam plugs but he really didn't need to be rude about it. As for skating ring rules, I think not be able to go backwards is a stupid idea. As a great and safe skater, I will always look behind and will not have a trouble falling over people. I feel like the employees should issue the backwards rotation of the person if they colliding with people or don't know how to go backwards at all. Skating is meant to have fun, dance and feel freely. You can't even do tricks either. I do one trick where I have one leg, crouch down and my other leg out and got called out by the employees. Like it's so stupid and so boring to only go forward and that's it. Fix your rules and attitude of your employees. Actually have us enjoy our skating. Would NOT recommend going here. read more

Coachlite is incredible! The staff and ownership really care about the communities they serve. I play roller derby for the local team that has been practicing and hosting games here for years (Chicago-Style Roller Derby, previously DuPage Derby Dames). I am here several times a week and gladly make the 45 minute drive from where I live in Chicago because this is such a nice rink with great people. The floor is perfection. It was my birthday there, I went there to celebrate. Everyone was nice but those people in striped shirts. I got misgendered as a non-binary person. It was during a "Boys Only Skating" and they told me it was boys only. Okay, maybe I dress more feminine but that's not nice to call someone a "woman" when theres A LITERAL PRIDE FLAG IN THE PLACE. Everything else was okay, but I liked that you could request songs. It is an alright place to go to, but remember if someone misgenders you, that's NOT OKAY!!! read more

We had a ton of fun on their $5 skate night. It's a pretty old school place. Different ages of skaters. Fun music.

This place needs to close. The last two times I've been there fights broke out, the rental skates are in horrible shape, staff is rude, and the general condition of the facility hasn't been updated since 1987. Basically if you want to go and attempt to skate around young teenage wanna be gang bangers that want to fight, this is your place! There are many other places to skate and have a good time. This place is horrible. Me and my daughter went to get the popcorn. It took them about 10 minutes to get the popcorn ready for me. The popcorn that I received was cold, and did not taste fresh at all, Also got a drink which took an awfully long time . The $10 that I later received back was after I got my food already. I had to wait about five minutes to get my change. The entire place reeked of an awful smell that I cannot describe. This was a very awful day with me and my daughter, and we eventually left because we could stand the smell anymore. read more

My grandson of 10 skated last night for the 1st time at Coach Light hes still learning even though it was busy he was able to skate got better in 1 hour guards check them when they fall right away.Everyone smiling alot of old and new skaters.I was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves. They decorated have hundreds of Easter Eggs hanging took them 3 days it look amazing so clean. I booked his birthday party on the spot can't wait. This place is a time capsule. My sister plays roller derby here and it is hilarious. The bathrooms have that sponge paint pattern I can remember my grandma diligently installing in her bathroom like 30 years ago. It's a nice facility that puts on a lovely tournament but parking can get chaotic, so plan accordingly. I can't speak to the condition of the skates but it does feel like walking into the roller rink in Stranger Things so I imagine the skates, like the rest of the place, need a refresh. read more

I liken the folks at Coachlite Skate Rink to the kin in the Netflix hit series Allegheny County; rude, ignorant, hysterical, nonsensical and violent tendencies. The gal working the DJ booth heard through the grapevine that I said the "music sucked". Apparently, she is extremely hyper-sensitive and possibly a tad bit deranged. When I approached the DJ booth to request a song, at the insistence of the floor guard, I didn't get a word out before I was accosted and berated for "harassing" her. She then directed her hostility to another woman standing next to me also wanting to request a song. She concluded her tirade by slamming shut the door with my finger in it. When I approached the booth to tell her what she did, with my 9-yr-old in tow, she again slammed the door. I spent this morning in urgent care for a burst tendon in my finger that I can not fully bend. Honestly I'd say a 2.5. The rink is ok- it's good. The prices are ok as well. But based off of the few times I've been there (weekends) the atmosphere is very iffy. The first time I went there- all but one staff member was rude/impolite and truly just seemed to not want and be there. Only 1 staff member was honestly really nice. He joked around and helped lessen the awkwardness and aggression-- from who? Yeah the teens. I went with another female friend of mine and from the minute that we got on that rink-- there were teens rollerblading real aggressively. I'm experienced and have been rollerskating for a couple of years now and had brought my own skates-- my friend was not as experienced and whilst she tried she couldn't shake the fear of a.) ofc falling and b.) the boys who kept speeding towards her before screeching to an aggressive stop. On numerous occasions I'd be taking a lap or two before some teen boy would come and aggressively weave in-front and around me all while saying and spewing some bs. These boys discouraged my friend while I kept on-- trying to enjoy the ok music and trying my hardest to not eat it because of the guys deciding to be huge a**holes. The one time I stopped-- I got whistled and yelled at,, mind you I had slowed myself down-- I hadn't truly stopped. The workers who'd watch the floor were quick to whistle and yell at kids for stopping or certain little things that really didn't cause too much harm but hadn't said one word to the weaving and downright bullying a**holes. I saw the workers max help out like 2 little kids who'd fall or stumble. The first night that I had been there I'm glad to say I helped a good handful. It's not that hard and I did it for free. Rollerskating/blading should be a fun and carefree experience not embarrassing/terrifying. Staff should be more attentive to learners and stomp down on those a**holes who this it's funny to trip others (INCLUDING LITERAL CHILDREN). All in all-- not so welcoming experience at all.. oh yeah their rentals are terrible. From sh*t laces to worn out and unrotated tires to scuffed out stoppers and unpadded boots. Forgot my own skates and rented a pair with balls for wheels-- the trek was loose on one while the other was screwed on so tight. Always wondered why when renting a pair my friends/family couldn't get the hand of it-- and after having to rent I now understand why soo many vow to never try again. 1 in a million to get a good pair from here ig. Not friendly to new skaters or young kids. It would be a lot better if they had age separated skate times - so little kids weren't at so much risk of being run over by people trying to show off or speed skate. Makes it hard to enjoy as a family with young-ish children. read more

This place is terrible. We got here and everything was bad. It took 10 minutes to get popcorn and a drink. when people were falling and running over each other no one helped anyone up and the employees just looked at them. This place has really bad music and it smells. the bathroom is terrible. They don't clean it. There is stains all over the bathroom and there was mold. The garbage is all over the floor. It took 30 minutes to get my shoes back from the counter. They take your shoes which I thought was really sketchy. I do not recommend this place read more

Overall I had a great experience here, towards the closing time a drink was throw by a man in his mid 20's and he missed the person he intentionally threw it at. The drink splashed me and a few other people. You could easily tell this man was under the influence. read more

Haven't been there under the new ownership the old one was fun though the only problem i had was the learn to skate time was to early in the morning , some people work different shifts that like to learn to skate and can't come during the week. maybe Roller rinks need to advertise more or do commercials or pod casts to get people interested in the sport . Fun place to bring kids to skate , laugh, and enjoy a family day. Skates for rent are ok shape (need some laces) and rollerblades you may need to change pairs as some our broken when given to you. Overall a nice place though. Complaint is relating to use of debt and credit cards. Happy to see a decent roller rink in Roselle. The time I came here wasn't to skate, but to watch the local women's roller derby team play, the DuPage Derby Dames. It was a lot of fun as you could sit on the floor, or on chairs, and if you're afraid of getting hit by a derby girl, you can stand behind the wall. The concession stand has plenty of options from candy, hot dogs, and popcorn. I got a slice of pizza, which was a quarter of a frozen pizza for $2.75. Kind of a ripoff but it still hit the spot. I appreciate the line barriers they have, but I wish the staff person told me where to pick up my food as I was standing on the opposite side of the pick up window. With that and whole bunch of games, it seems like a fun way to spend a weekend night with friends and family. read more

This place did have a nice rollerskating rink but there were some problems from my experience there. The staff was very rude to me and my friends. It was our first time there so I was expecting a nice greeting, but it was a lot more difficult than we had planned. Also, the rink was not very kid friendly. Most of the skaters were teenagers and if you didn't know how to skate properly, you were seen as different and you would get yelled at for standing still alongside the wall. Worked at the rink for two years. Underpaid, overworked, and treated poorly. Terrible first job for a teen - definitely not worth the treatment. Staff couldn't update the music and are forced to play outdated music because the managers don't want to update it. None of the employees have their food handler certificates to handle the food behind the snack bar. There were rats in the ceiling and the wheels on the baby skates up to size 1 the wheels do not turn. The skates are sanitized with lysol spray and aren't tended to unless they are completely broken. Don't waste your time replacing your skates because the laces are broken, the employees can rarely find a pair that have decent laces. The managers let their dogs run around the rink after hours and the managers on Fri and Sat nights are always drinking in the back office. Trust me, the employees are not to blame here, its poor management. We were only paid $8 an hour. Funway is worth your while if you're looking for a fun, quality roller rink with up to date music! read more
