Took my kids here to play today and they had a great time. It seemed very clean. We went to the indoor play area.

This is a great pool! I went swimming there and there is an outdoor kids pool and indoor kids pool - both with water slides and fun water playgrounds. There is also another large swimming pool with diving boards. I was disappointed- though when the lifeguards told me I was not allowed to swim in the deep area even though that was the specific reason I wanted to go to that pool. I still really like this aquatic center though. read more

I went here and I regretted it. The indoor pool was dirty. They don't adhere to the "shower before" rules but they really care about no cellphone while you are sitting on the edge of the pool. This place sucks and it is unfortunately run by high school students! Most of the showers don't work and the other half have no hot water. The men showers have no water at all. Maybe because it's summer or something? But definitely never coming back again. The fees are $3 for adults whether you are in the water or not. Gave it two stars because it has plenty of seatings and vending machines read more

Love the size of this indoor pool, the indoor facility and the seating for water polo events. We haven't used the indoor/outdoor recreational pools but those always seem to have lots of families and friends having fun in the summer. The staff are always nice and the lockers are clean. read more

Loved this place!! With military discount, I only paid $1.50 for me and my mini me! DOLLAR FIFTY!! It has an Olympic pool and kids pool where they have the splash playground a nice size slide. You can go on the slide as long as you(kid) can swim without a jacket. I was told the current at the bottom is pretty strong so you have to be a competent swimmer to go on it. The pool part of the playground goes from inches to about 5 feet (I think) so you can "swim" with your little one and not feel like you're in the wading pool the whole visit...haha...says the "mom". DOLLAR FIFTY!! I can't get over it!! Why would I spend $50 for the "other" pool/park? Kids don't care it's pretty big or this one as long as they get to go monkey crazy in the water I think we'll go back again today read more

Having swam competitively for 10 years of my young life, I can safely say I've seen my fair share of swimming pools...good ones and gross ones. Overall, this beautiful Olympic size pool is clean, spacious and has something for everyone! That said, I can't speak too much about the experience in the kiddy pool area - all I can say is that it looks pretty fun - water fountains, slide, beach entry, outdoor AND indoor pools...looks pretty awesome. The big pool also has diving boards! But the main reason I go to this pool is to swim laps (gotta stay healthy!). I've had good and not-so-good experiences lap swimming at West Mesa. When it's good, it's goooood. When it's not, it's because there are too many people trying to lap swim in too few lanes. This pool is an OLYMPIC size pool. I've been there at 5:30 in the morning, and they have 4 lanes open and the entire rest of the pool off limits. ....come on West Mesa. It's pretty much impossible for more than 2 random people to share a lane together. Open more lanes! ....other than that, you're doin it right! Water is clear. Temperature is perfect. Deck is always clean. Definitely recommend this pool! read more

Okay, Old School Burqueño: you remember "Dance Dance Dance It's a Teen Thing" (triple D double T), right? Those were the days. The West Mesa Aquatic Center is about as close to the Beach as we have at the moment. Yeah, Hotel Cascada, too, but at West Mesa you're getting in at Burque prices. For city dwellers it's quite a drive, but it's worth the ride. As much as we like to complain about commuting, let's be honest: the longest journey in ABQ, point A to B, south valley to Bernalillo, runs about 30 minutes. Ask your friend who emigrated from back East about commuting. Or that guy you met from L.A. 30 minutes is a joke. Pissing in the wind. Nothin'. For you westsidaz, West Mesa's a hop skip and jump. In my experience, this facility offers everything for everyone: an Olympic size pool for the competitive, slides and fountains for the kiddos, a biggie diving board for the ballsy, this is simply IT for the aquarian. A couple of downers that hold this back from the five star absolution. One: when the place is packed, you can expect to wait a good long time. Weekends tend to bring the masses. Two: the waters can be cool, verging on cold. I was pretty chilly, but I know how to stay warm, my four year-old, not so much. She wanted out, quick. That said, there were all kinds of shivering, rejoiceful youths digging the fun, so don't heed this warning too seriously. My kid has been known to wimp out. She did during our visit. read more

This is a nice city pool, except for the locker rooms, which are ancient but clean. But the pool is big - I almost never have to share a lane. Sometimes, not often, they have the 50 meter lanes open, which is fun. The water is a good temperature and it's clean - way cleaner than the private clubs. read more

Very nice Olympic pool! Been swimming at this facility for over a year, staff has always been kind, helpful and always polite! They accommodate all swimmers from water polo, lap swim, water aerobics and swim lessons, and recreationalswim.. My favorite place to be after a work day! Thanks to all the great staff! read more

I took my 7 and 10 year old kids and they loved it. Indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor water slides, and small and high diving boards inside. It's not Schlitterbahn, but for the price $2 for kids, $3 for adults, and $0.50 for the little one, its the best in Albuquerque. Only drawback is that the day swimming sessions are only 2 hrs. This is probably the cleanest and best-maintained pool facility in Albuquerque. I've used the pool to swim laps after work, attend a triathlon clinic, and participate in a Splash n' Dash race. Each time the pool, deck, bleachers and locker rooms have been clean (not icky). I was able to swim my laps in a designated section separate from kids playing in the water. There are attentive lifeguards on duty. The pool does have a really nice kids' section with water slides, and one of my friends hosted her young daughter's birthday party here. It's nice to see a well-used and well-kept facility like this on the west side of town! read more

Great place to take your kids. Indoor/Outdoor pool but get there early to get your wristband. They seem to sell out quickly. I try to get over there in the morning to ensure that I can get my kids in. The larger pool has diving boards and swimming laps that are very well done. I wish they had community pools like this where we live! This was the best thing about Albuquerque. For only $9, we were able to entertain our family of 5 for a couple hours. In fact we did 2 swim sessions in one day, so $18. One in the inside pool and one in the outside pool. Both had their charm. My daughter said it was better than great wolf lodge! So much cheaper and no lines. My 5 and 7 year old were able to go on the slides by themselves, so it gave them a sense of feeling like older kids. We didn't have to worry because the pool is only so big, they weren't too far away. A must visit if you're vacationing in Albuquerque! Buy tickets online after creating an account and inputting info for each family member. I had trouble with that at first, but I think tickets go live at a certain time. Got them a couple days in advance. On the calendar, there will be a green rectangle on the session with tickets you can purchase, and you click the plus sign. read more

We loved it! The kids had a blast with the slides and water equipment. It wasn't as packed as we thought even though it was only open for recreational swim. To clarify there are three swimming pools and we swam in the kid ones, not the Olympic one but kids were jumping off the diving boards in them which looked fun too. I'd venture to say it's the best public pool by far I've ever seen or heard of lol ...not to mention super cheap compared to Cliffs! read more

This place is pretty great. Took my 5 and 7 year olds. Less than $10 for all three of us to play for two hours. 4 different pools, 3 water slides, 2 of the pools are shallow for little kids (up to my waist, but the kids could actually stand!) + 2 diving boards and lap swimming. And they actually allow kids to be kids; splashing, jumping in, playing games in the water. We'll definitely be back. Only complaint is I wish they would give you a 5 or 10 minute warning before time is up. My 5 year was literally on the diving board and had to get down. She was bummed, but overall, pretty nice. read more

Went with the family for 50cent Friday. The place was PACKED. I've always been a fan of zero entry pools for the kids. The slide and diving boards are fun for the older kids (and parents). The bathrooms could be kept up a little better, but I like the ample room for changing. It's a great, cheap family activity that's worth trying, no matter what part of town you live in. read more

The aquatic center is great. I come here for lap swim and it's by far the cleanest pool I've swam in since moving to Albuquerque 6 months ago. Just a tip, make sure you check the website for closures due to special events and competitions. Only complaint I have is free swim area next the lanes gets over crowded and at times you have arms and legs flailing in the lane that you have to dodge. This is out of the control of the staff so you can't doc them for it. Overall, great pool and highly recommended. read more

We came here for a party. Cool thing is they rented it out to us for a banquet for the kids basketball league...first time coming here and their is a nice outside pool area. This pool is exceptional because the student staff are really professional and attentive to swimmers. I have high regard for Highland Pool as well, but as a daily swimmer at West Mesa HS I am totally appreciative of the team spirit the staff exhibit. Zero complaints, total compliments to all--including the cleaning crew! One more kudo is the recent addition of a phone contact system to alert swimmers via text when unanticipated closures occur. It is a simple process to enroll--another example of the awesome attention to their swimmers. read more

Its time word got out about the disaster created for Albuquerque public pools. Rather then letting people in as there is room, you have to buy tickets in advance for morning or afternoon by driving there first , then going back later to swim. This absurd program has been in effect for several years now and makes it impossible to get in. This morning a sign was posted saying to purchase tickets at the North entrance instead, and there was a swim meet going on and they had no clue. Whoever is running this fiasco should have been fired long ago. Lets bring swimming back to Albuquerque! read more

My kids do swimming classes at west Mesa swimming pool, I really enjoy taking them, they love to go. The life guards are students and are snobby and don't really care for customer service most of the time they are hanging out in groups. Like by the tables in the corners of the pools. You'll see.(: they don't disturb, but they don't help. read more

This pool has great potential but suffers from poor maintenance and a lack of attention to hygiene. The floors of the shower and dressing rooms look like they haven't been cleaned since they built the place, the toilets, urinals, and sinks are covered with a permanent slime, and the pool water is often murky and decorated with floating used band-aids. Twice while I was there they were allowing people to throw birthday parties and serve pizza to swimmers who then vomited in the pool. They made us stand around for 20 minutes while the guards tried to scoop the vomit out with nets. read more

Their water aerobics program is excellent. One hour 3 times a week and all the instructors are capable and fun to work with. I go to the evening classes but they have daytime too. You pay per session so if you decide your day is too overbooked, you're not out any money. read more

This pool, including the locker rooms and showers need to be cleaned. There is gross mildew all over the walls in the showers, and tons of disgusting hair balls in all the drains. The pools are pretty gnarly dirty as well. I've been attending the pool for the last month with my son for parent-tot classes and I have to say, this is the dirtiest public pool I've ever been to. Every day that we attend there's something gross in the grate sides of the pool... Band-Aids, hair, random coins, hair ties, junk that shouldn't be in a pool. And 5 out of 15 and counting lessons we've had to be outside because the pH levels of the pool have been off for some reason or another. The other thing about being outside for lessons is that there is no notice, so we're expected to just slap some sunscreen on our babies and hop right in the water without waiting the 15 minutes for the sunscreen to properly take effect.... Or, wait the 15 minutes and only have a 10 minute lesson. Which isn't really a lesson at all, just a teen-ager who floats around silently while the parents do "whatever" with their babies. If my son didn't love being in the pool so much, I would've pulled him out of these "lessons" and eaten the $50 I spent on two 2-week sessions. (Which were exactly the same, and I feel like one of the children at the front should've informed me that the sessions are repeats, and do not progressively advance. All in all, west Mesa needs to clean up their facility, PRONTO! read more
