Dan at ABD came to my house to provide an estimate for replacing my back deck. We wanted to demo…read morethe old deck and replace with a smaller 208sf deck. Dan was on time and very professional. Dan provided an onsite quote of $25,000. I asked if this included the permit. He said he doesn't always get permits, especially if the property is set back from a street where people can't see the work being performed. I asked about financing options and he had one of his lenders send me the application for financing, but after reading the fine print, I realized that the lender wanted to put a lien on my home to secure the loan. After Dan got back to his office he sent me a contract for the work but the contract didn't include a cost breakdown. I called Dan and told him that my county requires a permit for the job, and we need to hire a contractor to handle the drawings and permit process for us. Dan was not familiar with the permit process for our county and said he would have to make some calls. He said he would have to hire an architect for the drawings and verbally told me it would cost approximately $7,500. I asked if he had any other lenders that offer unsecured loans. He said he would talk to his finance dept. and back to me. After the call, I sent Dan a text letting him know that I would be contacting other contractors for quotes. Dan immediately responded with better unsecured loan option at 6.9% interest. I let Dan know that I would get back to him after reviewing other quotes. After meeting with other contractors we decided a cheaper way to complete this project would be to build a landing and staircase to the ground instead of a deck. I called Dan and he said he could build the staircase for $8,500 but permit with drawing would cost an additional $6,500. I asked him about the other lender he had mentioned before with the unsecured loan, and he said he would speak to his finance dept. and get back to me. That was the last time I heard from Dan and he never got back to me. ABD may have great reviews online, but I don't think people hear about customer's experiences who decide not to hire them. Just wanted people to be aware of their un-permitted work practices, their lenders that try to put a lien on your home and contracts with no price breakdown.

Did some online research and reading and decided to go with Anlin Windows because they had the best warranty, technology and quality that we were happy with. Went to Anlin's website and looked for their lists of dealers/installers that were close to us. Got a few quotes that were pretty comparable. Then one weekend, I contacted Good News on Yelp. Didn't think anyone would respond on a weekend but was surprised when Lon replied back. We set up a time to meet the next day. On the scheduled day and time, Lon showed up. He was very knowledgeable and we really liked what we heard about the company. I like how the company gives a portion of their proceeds to help people (see their website for more details). We liked Lon so much that we actually signed a contract with him that same day. (Usually we like to wait a few days and compare quotes) A couple days later, Etta at the office (cool name!) called us to schedule a day for installation a few weeks out. On the day of our installation, Brian and Serge showed up on the scheduled time and worked diligently the entire day. At the end of the day, I think they must have polished the glass or something because the windows looked amazing! My husband jokes that we now have 4K windows because they just look so great! We only did a portion of our windows because window replacement can be pricey. We will definitely have Good News HI to install the rest when the time comes. We told our friend about Good News recently and he also had them come out to do his windows. Highly recommend Good News if you're needing new windows! I met with Kurt for the initial estimate and he was great in pointing out the kind of work that needed to be done and took the time to answer all of my questions. Once I made the decision to go with 3 Generations, I started working with Jeremy who went the extra mile to meet me at my work to sign the paperwork and select the type of siding for the house. We signed the paperwork in the late Fall, which is a busy time for them but Jeremy was always up front with their estimated timing, which I really appreciated. Once the work started, the job was completed pretty quickly. Again, Jeremy and his crew were very communicative and kept me updated on the status of the work until it was done.
