Went to West U Vision with my daughter at the end of January. She had a retinal scan and we were told that it showed something in the right eye, like a hole, but the optometrist was not sure what it was and she did not want to dilate my daughter's eyes. We then went to a room to do a vision test. First was a test with both eyes. Then started with a test of the right eye. My daughter said she could not see. The optometrist got very impatient and angry and said you could see before. So she started again with the right eye, same response I can't see. The optometrist got very upset and told me I can't work like this. My daughter was also upset by then and we decided to leave and not continue to work with this woman who made it clear she didn't want to help us. Long story, we then went to an opthamologist who told us the right eye had macular edema and possible bleeding. Guess that was the reason for the inability to see out of the right eye. Moral of the story avoid this place unless you like someone to be angry that you have a real problem. Incompetent service. Wish I could leave no star. read more

I went to this place several times since 2017, and regretfully the service has deteriorated dramatically. The optometrists (I saw two of them) are good, but a receptionist is sloppy and unreliable. I came to get a new prescription; I mentioned that I had no intention to purchase glasses at that place (which is outrageously expensive). The receptionist gave me a wrong prescription (which I learned only next day when I wanted to order new glasses so I had to go back) and submitted a false claim to my insurance which blocked all my benefits. I spent half a day on a phone with the insurance company; I was told at the end that my benefits will be restored in two weeks (!). Please visit this place if you enjoy wasting your time. read more

I went to this place for eye exam. Receptionist (Melissa) and doctor (Dr. Castillo) were super friendly and caring. In other places I often been pushed by the sales-oriented doctors to pay more for glasses, but in West U Vision they were very professional and maintained the appropriate distance, so I haven't felt pushed to make an expensive purchase. BAIT AND SWITCH! Very bad experience with West U Vision. I purchased a Groupon for $60.50 for a "comprehensive eye exam". I called and made an appointment for a contact lenses exam. After driving across town for their first available appt., I checked in and presented my Groupon, First, I was told that I should have called them directly and not purchased a Groupon since they match it. Then came the first "up sell", telling me if would be an extra $50 if I wanted a through exam to see if I had eye problems. Websters definition of comprehensive: "complete; including all or nearly all elements or aspects of something." I declined and was handed a few pages of paperwork to fill out. AFTER filling out the paper work with all of my personal and health information - only then was I told that the Groupon did not include a contact lenses exam ( which should have been disclosed on the phone when I made the appt., or upon first arrival.) The price went up again - it would be $100 if I wanted to include a contacts exam. Frustration. I asked if they could please just apply my purchased Groupon toward the cost of the $100 contact exam ( explaining I am a disabled senior. "No, I'm sorry." was the response. Bottom line: $60.50 Groupon cost + $50 for a "better eye exam", and another $50 for the contact lenses exam. $160.50 final cost WITH a Groupon. I told them this was upsetting, and left. Sadly, I do not predict success for a business which uses deception. If they a shred of business ethics, they would have done the right thing even when not to their advantage. read more

No nonsense service and really excellent glasses. I'm a geologist, so my vision is super-important to me and I can tell the difference between a good lens lab and a so-so lens lab. West U uses a great lab and I have loved all the glasses I've gotten there for the last 6 years. They have so many choices of frames in all price ranges and they don't ever try to up-sell you. They are just honest, no-nonsense folks who care that you have healthy eyes and a good glasses-buying experience. I keep coming here even though I moved to the other side of town! read more

I'm a big fan of West U Vision! Not sure why they have low reviews, I was really impressed by everyone that I worked with and how professional they were with their service. I needed a same day appointment for new contacts and pretty much everywhere else in town could not fit me in. Since I was leaving the country that night, I was on a tight schedule. The West U staff worked to squeeze me into their day, even though I was a new patient! I met with Dr. Bryan (I'm unsure if that was his name, he's a new doctor so his name isn't on the list) and he walked me through the options I could add to my exam (such as the additional retina photographs). I was not surprised that it was extra for such a service, everywhere else i've gone has also charged extra for the service. He talked to me about the health of my eyes, what my prescription means for my eye health and more. I appreciated that he took time to explain things to me in a way I hadn't heard before (and I've been wearing glasses + contacts for over 16 years!). They have a bit of a limited selection of frames in the store, however, they are more than happy to place online orders for you if you need something special made. I never felt any pressure to spend more money than I had budgeted for and instead, the staff was helpful in letting me know my benefit plan allowances and the best way to maximize the allowance. Their turn around time is also really quick, even with a custom order. Will definitely be a return customer now that I'm in Houston! read more

For the past 5 years I've been in search of an eye doctor in the area that I'm comfortable with and a staff that is comparable to my prior doctor that I've gone to since I was a child. I think I've finally found that place! I came in Sept '12 and I was having vision problems. Come to find out I had a pretty bad eye infection and the doctors were very helpful. I went back so often for a follow-up that I had met all the doctors, even the temporary one! Nevertheless they are affordable and the staff is also very helpful and kind. I'm a new contact wearer and was unsure if I had properly removed one the night before. Dr. Yeh not only confirmed that it was gone, but also put my mind at ease and patiently explained what can and can't happen with soft Dailies contacts. I had my daughter examined by Dr. Rockoff as this place is close to my home. My daughter has never had vision problems but I figured since she was turning 6 she should see an eye doctor. What a mistake. Dr. Rockoff started pathologizing my daughter in front of her. To make matters worse, I believe he acted unethically to try to sell us glasses. My daughter has 20/20 vision but he recommended glasses to her and diagnosed her as having esotropia. What was unusual was that my daughter did worse reading the letters after he put her in front of the machine with lenses to match his recommended prescription for her. He even went so far as to go up to the letters on the board and say something like, "are you looking at this letter? Are you sure?" Meanwhile, she did a much better job reading without the lenses in front of her. Since we were skeptical of his diagnosis and questioned his motives, I wanted to get a copy of the exam report. The receptionist was at first resistant to provide this until I insisted that I had paid for an eye exam and demanded a copy of the results. We sent the eye exam to an ophthalmologist with knowledge of children (a family friend who lives out of state). He examined the eye exam results and prescription from Dr. Rockoff and concluded that this was likely an optometric exam to sell glasses. The ophthalmologist concluded that based on the results of the exam, my daughter likely did not need glasses. Then we took our daughter a few days later for her annual physical to her pediatrician who did a test for esotropia. Our pediatrician concluded that my daughter's eyes look great. It is one thing to scam adults into buying glasses. But in my opinion, it is very unethical to scam children into glasses. Their brains are still developing and necessary glasses could create much larger problems down the future. Shame on you Dr. Rock. read more

These guys are crooked stay away. At the time if making the appointment, I asked them the cost of an eye exam for contact lenses. When i arrived, the person at the desk gave me a different price. When I told him that I was told a lower price, he pretty much told me that I was lying then proceeded to curse me and lastly threatened to physically hit me. This punk manages (mid-manages) the business fir his brother and thinks his customers have to be stupid. Another thing they do is tack on extras such as dilation fee, retina image fee etc. I went to lens crafters instead, they charged me the quoted fee, and everything was included. The service is outstanding, you're never rushed, they're patient and honest regarding your eyewear and make recommendations that you can afford and live with. The entire staff is very courteous and competent, from the Optometrists, Optician and Manger. Absolutely love the eyewear and the affordable options. I highly recommend West U Vision. I live 20 miles from here but I get quality service and the staff always have a great attitude and that's what matters to me. I remember this place when it used to be TSO way back in the days when I was a kid. i figured the eyeglasses selection would be as good as I remembered from years ago. of course, with new ownership and establishment i shouldn't have expected that because their selection was very limited. my eyeglasses are about 3 years old, my lens are all scratched up, the nose pad was just about gone, and my lenses were very cloudy, and because i've established them with my insurance, i kind of had no choice but to stick with this location. the eye exam itself was no problem but it was the final product that was. i received my glasses in a week but i couldn't help notice that they sat crooked on my face. Dr. Castillo assured me that they weren't but it was so obvious that they looked lop sided on my face! she was very sweet doc but i'm not sure what the heck she's seeing with her own glasses. i left anyway with the condition they were in but i must've walked around the office with crooked glasses for a week and yes, it was stupid of me to even accept them in the crooked position they were in. i bring them back and even the guys at the front desk confirmed that they were indeed crooked. well, they couldn't completely straighten it out because doing so would've damaged the frame completely. although the problem was 95% corrected, i just don't see myself coming back. read more

This place is awesome. Gene is a wonderful Optician. I have been to many places and no one except Gene has made my glasses correctly. I have been wearing glasses that were incorrectly made for years and other Opticians told me they were made correctly and get used to them. I had a pair of sunglasses made with a current prescription and as soon as I put them on I could see without distortion or slightly blurry vision. Gene told me my current glasses were not made right. Dr. Rockoff and Dr. Castillo are very friendly and know what they are doing. I had a new prescription made and all I can say is wow. I have been missing out for years and I am very happy to find West U Vision. As with any business you can't please everyone and the ones that you try to please will write a bad review. I would highly recommend this place. I was a small business owner for 18 years and support great small businesses with great customer service. The staff are very courteous and competent.
