Encinitas is a hidden gem! In addition to the food, Ben also gave us intriguing facts and history which really enhanced the experience. The downtown area has interesting artwork and looked very clean overall. It was bustling due to the Memorial Day weekend but it wasn't annoyingly crowded at all. We won't use Natalie's services again and don't recommend her. She was not timely in getting back…read morewith us on multiple occasions which created increased costs and high stress. We asked her to help us book a trip to Europe and really needed her help with booking the airline tickets thinking she could help us find the lowest costs while also using our points to upgrade. (For those that use points for overseas upgrades, you know how valuable they are and it's a needle in a haystack to find that one flight that takes much lower points for a confirmed upgrade!) Usually, I'm the one that does all this but my husband insisted it would be a lot less time and stress to use a travel agent. Ultimately, I still did the legwork to find the flights we booked. When we asked Natalie to book our flights, she waited to get back with us and the class of service we could have upgraded to with points was gone. So I found new flights and again, after my husband gave her the card number we wanted her to use, she didn't respond, and again the prices went up and the class of service we requested was no longer available on the outbound. But because we had already told her to book, AND SHE WOULDN'T PICK UP The PHONE AND CALL US BACK, or email us, we had no idea if she was planning on booking, had a booking on hold, or wasn't doing anything. We didn't want to double book, so we kept calling and texting but trying not to be "pests". Again, we lost the flights we wanted because the price went up and the upgrades were gone. When she finally booked the tickets, we didn't get the class of service on the way out. Thank goodness I went through our booked tickets with a fine tooth comb before we left for our trip or it would have never happened! I realized she had booked my husband as a female. When I called the airline to ask them to change it, they said they couldn't honor our request because her name was the person "in charge" of the tickets and so we had to go through her again. It was an absolute nightmare and I'm sure caused more headache for her as well. So, we had to again wait for her to respond and ask multiple times for her to fix this for us. It was really frustrating! What was supposed to be a nice gesture by my husband to save me time and help us find the lowest price tickets, was really stressful and cost us over a $1,000 more between her price and the ticket prices increasing multiple times when we couldn't get a hold of her. If we EVER use a travel agent in the future (or you do), make sure you're also named as someone who can change your own darn tickets or call the airline and ask questions. That was absolutely insane to find that she was the only one that could make any changes. (That was a suggestion made by the airline btw). Ugh... And yes, it was a fantastic trip once there!

Unfortunately, there were some issues we had with travel planning for our honeymoon. Communication was the biggest issue. There would be times where I would message via text and not get a response or I would get one a couple of days later. I understand we have personal stuff to take care of, but a simple response would be appreciated. I think this caused a bit of stress for my husband and I as we had to wait around for an answer. There were things that did not go as planned on our trip such as having to cancel our car rental and museum passes not working when trying to pick up. I think if you really want to be involved in your travel planning and not feel stressed, it might be best to plan on your own.

While researching how to do this, where to stay, I found this company, The Baja Experience, run by Tom and Eileen Kennedy. They have a guide to ease your way across the border and to find their off the beaten track fun zone, Punta Banda. They were wonderfully accommodating and so supportive. When I left behind the sand dollar my 8 year old found on the beach, Eileen sent me one of hers. Mexico especially Baja can have a bad rap but we found all to be incredible. We sat on the beach - we watched the beach life dolphins, pelicans, birds etc. We saw incredible sunsets. Ate good. All in all a wonderful vacation and we can't wait to go back. There is plenty to do although we didn't really do much away from our casa. Liked it so much...we would probably go right back to the same place.

The one house has stunning views of the ocean, and full glass windows so you can constantly look out. There is a rooftop deck that is beatiful. The back house doesn't have ocean views but has nice ammenities and the King bed is extremely comfortable. There were great outdoor eating areas, a grill, beach chairs, and tons of stuff to play with on the beach- including nice fishing poles! The beach is a 30 foot walk down an adorable plant filled path and it was very secluded, clean, and warm. The breeze coming from the ocean is continuous but the waters were pretty calm b/c you're in a bay type thing. All of us work in the travel industry and something important to point out (that is rare!) is that their website and the material they send you is very detailed, contains no exaggerations, and really explains the house, the surrounding area and exactly what you get for your money. I arranged everything with Eileen and she was very quick to email back, answered all my questions, and the whole transaction went smoothly. I can see being hesitant to rent a house from owners in Mexico but she really took any fear or hesitation out of the equation! The neighborhood and drive from San Diego were both safe and I never felt in danger or unsafe. In fact, we were really stupid and left some of our 'emergency cash fund" behind a painting, and even though she won't be down at her house for months, she is sending us a check for the amount now....thats the kind of service and kindness that is not found anywhere!
