Original communication was stressful and somewhat scattered as first, the trip was booked, second, Curtis had double booked the time slot, and third, the time slot worked out after all. The trip itself was very sketch to say the least. The vehicle (older model Suburban) was in need of some major maintenance, running with a spare tire in one slot and the shocks were obviously shot. To top the trip of, Curtis took a couple phone calls (no bluetooth), and actually read texts as he was driving! Moving on!!

This aviation company provides maintenance, sales, service and flight instruction to students, hobbyists and die hard aviation pilots! I had the opportunity to tour this facility recently via a mentoring program and I learned much about aviation, that I didn't learn via the Wright Brothers indirectly! More than anything, I have always enjoyed being around airports, small, large, international, you name it. Perhaps, it's the freedom of flight and the adventure of travel that lures me (I'm sure I'm not the only one). We had a chance to view planes that didn't land with their gear down (always the preferred method) and got to view a couple experimental planes (this is cool stuff, imagine engineering items to make your plane fly the way you want it to fly)! You can obtain flight instruction here or rent a plane that will cost you between $85 to $250 per hour (an expensive hobby)! You might just drive out nearby in Ramona and watch planes take off and land if you don't have the $'s to fly! I was surprised to learn you can purchase a plane for as little as $20,000 and I was thrilled to learn one female mechanic worked for the facility and brought in her pink tool kit to work! We have 3 kids so 5 people to buy airline tickets for and somehow we got this idea to drive into…read moreMexico and stay in a house on the beach. While researching how to do this, where to stay, I found this company, The Baja Experience, run by Tom and Eileen Kennedy. They have a guide to ease your way across the border and to find their off the beaten track fun zone, Punta Banda. They were wonderfully accommodating and so supportive. When I left behind the sand dollar my 8 year old found on the beach, Eileen sent me one of hers. Mexico especially Baja can have a bad rap but we found all to be incredible. We sat on the beach - we watched the beach life dolphins, pelicans, birds etc. We saw incredible sunsets. Ate good. All in all a wonderful vacation and we can't wait to go back. There is plenty to do although we didn't really do much away from our casa. Liked it so much...we would probably go right back to the same place.

The one house has stunning views of the ocean, and full glass windows so you can constantly look out. There is a rooftop deck that is beatiful. The back house doesn't have ocean views but has nice ammenities and the King bed is extremely comfortable. There were great outdoor eating areas, a grill, beach chairs, and tons of stuff to play with on the beach- including nice fishing poles! The beach is a 30 foot walk down an adorable plant filled path and it was very secluded, clean, and warm. The breeze coming from the ocean is continuous but the waters were pretty calm b/c you're in a bay type thing. All of us work in the travel industry and something important to point out (that is rare!) is that their website and the material they send you is very detailed, contains no exaggerations, and really explains the house, the surrounding area and exactly what you get for your money. I arranged everything with Eileen and she was very quick to email back, answered all my questions, and the whole transaction went smoothly. I can see being hesitant to rent a house from owners in Mexico but she really took any fear or hesitation out of the equation! The neighborhood and drive from San Diego were both safe and I never felt in danger or unsafe. In fact, we were really stupid and left some of our 'emergency cash fund" behind a painting, and even though she won't be down at her house for months, she is sending us a check for the amount now....thats the kind of service and kindness that is not found anywhere!
