Before I get to the main body of my review, I want to mention their old location. Located on Camp Street in a very old building, the amount of history in that place was truly amazing. In their case were old police badges, old signs, etc. that they had made throughout the years. I was really sad to see them move from the old spot, but the new place is much more customer friendly. Now in Mid-City, there is ample street and lot parking. Inside the store is clean, modern and efficient. There are many items on display that show the range of things they can create. Everything from vinyl signs to super high end markers for mausoleums. The favorite piece of mine is the old wheelbarrow branded with the Ed Smith logo prominently displayed in the lobby. But looking at cool things is not why I come. I have had many different items made by Ed Smith over the years including name tags, desk name plates, office door plates and most recently self-inking stamps. The quality of their stamps is first rate. They even handled a difficult custom job for me that I picked up today. While not cheap, I have never seen a self- inking stamp so large or so clear. The staff are very helpful and even willing to deal with difficult customers who have unrealistic expectations (Me). I am sure you can go to some national company for these kinds of things, but trust me, Ed Smith is the best at what they do, and they are local.

Too many beads to look at. This place is stuffed with beads. All kinds, but everything is organized. There is a method to the madness. Staff recommend that you grab one of the small baskets that include small plastic bags and a pen. You place your selection in the baggy and write down how much it costs on the outside of the baggy. There are strings of beads hanging from the walls. Beads and clasps in bowls and dishes of various types, shapes, and sizes. A large assortment of chains, cut to desired length. Everything necessary to create your own custom jewelry. There were some serious bead shoppers in the shop. One of the ladies was assisting a mother and daughter duo the entire time I was looking around. They were still there when I made my purchases and exited. I purchased the cutest miniature tea cup and saucer and a faux pearl in a shell. There's even a back room where things have already been made. The staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable. The back of the business card: Beads; jewelry; findings; beading supplies; classes; repairs; charms; kids and adult parties; custom designs; wedding jewelry.

This was definitely one we had to return to during our short time. We were not disappointed. The pieces are designed from different architectural elements in the area, so not only are you getting an amazing piece of jewelry, but can wear a replica of history as well. The beaded necklaces reminded us of a more glamorous representation of the Mardi Gras beads too, which makes these items even more special. Every time we wear them, we are reminded about the rich history of the area, as well as the culture and festivities! The owner was very helpful as well, and even went so far as to assist us with directions for getting to our port of call!

The owner/artist explained that they go around the city (and in some cases the world) and take photos of design elements and use that inspiration to remix them into jewelry. Can't get more unique than that. The ladies at the store were super nice and knowledgeable. They knew the name of every piece and how it was made! They also took the time to explain to my husband the difference between engraving and intaglio. Plus the prices were very fair for handcrafted sterling silver.
