It was the first time that I visited the Westchester Road Runner store in White Plains. I came because my UPS package was left here. Very convenient btw. Unfortunately after a week my package hot sent back. Is a small place so they cant hold packages longer than that. Good to know. A very caring staff. Super knowledgeable. Most sneaker stores are not experts and have little or no training or experience with the sneaker culture. This is the Only place to purchase sneakers. They professionally watch how you walk in the shoe. If it's not right they insist on trying another brand or style that may be a better match for your foot and gait. I recommend this place as a running store in the area. I went here recently to buy new running shoes. I've been having pain and discomfort after sessions on the treadmill and figured new shoes could offer some relief. I had an older gentleman of the store help me pick out shoes. He measured my foot size, analyzed my feet, my gait and my running stride. He had me try on a couple of pairs and brought out a third pair that felt perfect for me. Very happy with the purchase so far! A few caveats, the store doesn't have a treadmill, so for the employee to analyze your stride and gait, you'll be running/walking in the store. I prefer a treadmill as it's easier for the employee to analyze my running form more closely. Another caveat is that I waited a little longer than I would like to for assistance. I checked in during a busy time, so I guess it couldn't be helped. Overall, my experience here was decent. read more

I have been here several times to buy shoes. I came most recently with my mom who was looking for walking sneakers with high arch support. This is a boutique running shop. In addition to shoes, they also sell athletic apparel and accessories like water bottles, laces, and insoles. They have a decent selection but I would call in advance if you are looking for something in particular. The staff here are extremely knowledgeable and offer personalized service. They will ask you to remove your shoes and watch you walk to get a sense of your foot movement, arch, gait, and any irregularities. They measure your feet to ensure you are purchasing the right size. After that initial assessment, they will typically bring out several shoes for you to try out that will best serve your needs. They are patient and many of them are dedicated runners themselves who know what works best when it comes to shoes. This is definitely not a place to go if you are looking for fashion or trends. The shoes you get here will support and protect your feet and help you get the most out of your sport. Think brands like brooks, ASICS, saucony, etc. This is not a store for the latest Nikes. Their shoes are definitely expensive but I would argue they are well worth the price to avoid injury. They've been a staple in this area for years. Their podiatrist had recommended Westchester Road Runner. The salesman, Barry, was very knowledgeable and patient. He watched carefully how they walked and made good recommendations on what shoes would be helpful. He took a lot of time to make sure they got the right shoes. I was really happy that I came here! I've been here a bunch of times- the service depends on who's working and what time of day you go. Sometimes they're helpful, sometimes they're not. I've also heard them bad mouth customers right after they walk out the door - so that's nice. I always know what I'm looking for. So thankfully I don't have to wait for someone to help me. I came here for a new pair of running shoes in the middle of a Sunday. They were busy but not packed - they could have used 1-2 more salespeople at this time to help everyone. As their inventory is not in the main showroom, you need a salesperson to go get you shoes so you can try them on. Additionally, once I got a salesperson, he was running between me and another person, trying to help us both but also making us both wait a bit. I don't blame him for this; I blame the store for not hiring enough people. The good side of this store was that the salesperson did seme very knowledgable, and he was very polite and helpful. I'm happy with the shoes I bought. They also gave me a free pair of socks. I want to warn that they seem low on inventory, but I'm not holding that against them because the pandemic has caused this issue at a lot of stores. I pointed out a shoe I was interested in, and they told me right now, they only had the smallest and largest sizes of that shoe. read more

When I went into the store and asked the salesperson (and owner) to try on two different pairs of Hoka running sneakers, he told me "that if I'm picking based on color, that's not the right way to do it." When I said I was looking to test out the different pairs, he continued to stand there and tell me "they were two completely different pairs of shoes." I had to ask a third time before he went to the back to get them. As a young woman, I was immediately put off by his assumption that I must be picking based on color, and the condescending tone with which the assumption was put worth, as well as his seeming unwillingness to bring me out the shoes I had requested. Is the purpose of going to a store in person not to try on shoes, both for fit and style? While an opinion would have been welcomed if I had asked for it, the owner's attitude deterred me from even trying on the shoes. A customer is entitled to pick and try on shoes free from the questioning of the salesperson, particularly when it takes on such an overtly chauvinistic and condescending tone. read more

My current shoes needed to be replaced and I was looking for some input based on my gate, arch, etc. I had a wonderful experience and the associate nailed it on the first recommendation. Please be Aware... This store is very negligent and should not be an access point for UPS. This is a UPS access point. The the owner and staff are very unprofessional and manager is aggressively rude. They mismanaged people's packages. As soon as I walked in the door, there was a disarray of packages on the floor near the entry way. Anyone from the street could just pick up a package and run out the door. A staff member told me that they could not find my package and therefore was not delievered. He mentioned that another person was there to collect their package and was not found either. He advised me to call UPS. After leaving the store, I made a call to UPS and they said that someone from Westchester Road Runner signed for it. I immediately went back, and asked to speak to a manager or the owner. The manager was unhelpful, and aggressive and owner was aloof. I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. They finally found my package in their store after 20 minutes- what a horrible experience! read more

I visited this store in search of Asics running shoes. I was reminded in a rude tone that they are about to close - which I was already aware of and intended to make a quick purchase. When asked what I was looking for I replied "ah-sics" and was corrected that its "ae-sics" I mentioned I regularly wore size 10-11, the man measured my foot and responded "I don't know why you would wear 2 sizes larger" in a demeaning tone. Avid runner here looking for new running shoes. Started off good with a salesperson helping me to try on some shoes. However, ended very badly when he couldn't take no for an answer and proceeded to be extremely disrespectul. He made me so uncomfortable all I could think about was not buying the shoe and leaving the store. I would say things like "I'm sorry but I'm not so sure" and he would be like "what are you not sure about. You are making a big mistake". Your job isn't to make the customer as uncomfortable as humanly possible. Never coming back here again. read more

I love local running shops and this makes me very sad to complain but I received very bad customer service today when trying to return a defective camelback water bladder today. I bought it 6 days ago and when I tried it out - water ran all down my back leaking from the bladder. I had the receipt and the credit card and all they would give was store credit. And the clerk rudely said that I would get worse if I came back mid week from the manager. I left the store with a credit I didn't need and in a terrible mood from this experience. I get that it is really hard for local stores to compete with Amazon but if Amazon gives me a full refund - its hard to go back to a store that was not nice read more

I have so many issues with me feet and my Achilles. I've been buying shoes from Zappos for years but I always felt like I made a mistake in my selections. Barry guided me through shoe selection and then he helped me with inserts for my hiking shoes, socks and shorts. I have heard but haven't experienced it that they sell a little aggressively, but after taking all the time they do to make sure you are in the right shoe I think they are entitled to make the sale. And, yes, there are very few sales' prices but I think it's because the inventory doesn't age. Harbert, I think that's the way he spells it, is AWESOME at what he does so he's who I see when I go. The Facebook post says they do curbside fittings. I called in advance to make sure today was a good day. I was told that it was and to call when I was outside. When I arrived the person who answered the phone told me he was not the person that I spoke to and I needed to tell him what sneaker I wanted. I said if I knew what sneaker I wanted I would order on Amazon. So he hung up on me. So I called back and was very surprised to find out that it was the owner Andy Kimerling that hung up on me. Turns out that they no longer evaluate your stance, examine your gait and take the time to discuss any problems that you are having with your feet. "I have 125 ladies shoes. I was in White Plains from Seattle for family stuff, and failed to pack my worn-out running shoes. Luckily, I found Westchester Road Runner. Mike, one of the sales guys, was immediately helpful. I was in need of new running shoes *anyway.* He picked out an updated version of my previous shoes, the two top selling brands, and another pair. I took each pair out for a spin around the block, and in short-order, found a perfect pair of shoes. Since I also needed some running clothes, I picked those up, too. If you're into the sport of running, and want knowledgable people to be there helping you select your shoes (it makes a difference!), do not hesitate to come to this store. Do not buy your shoes based on how they look or the price - the fit matters, and the guys at Westchester Roadrunner will get you into a pair of shoes that work for you - and also give you the option to return them (if still clean) if you've run a mile or two and they don't work out. I purchased a pair of Saucony sneakers. After wearing them only once I realized that one sneaker was improperly manufactured. When I returned to Westchester Road Runner the salesman disputed the fact that there was a 1/4 inch difference in the sole measurement and seeing the sneaker stated I must have warn the sneaker out due to the angle of the outside sole. The salesman was accusatory and rude. He offered to replace the sneakers at 60%. I have only purchased sneakers at WRR for the last 35 years. I left the sneakers, walked out of the store and went to the new sneaker store in Scarsdale/Eastchester and spent $360 on 2 pair of sneakers. read more

My boyfriend who's a retired Olympic rower and marathon runner came in to get some new shoes. He's tall, hot, and did I mention tall, as in 6'7" tall, because former Olympic rower, right? They did him a major disservice. They initially offered up over FORTY pairs of size 14 shoes, but then the girl there brought out 3, maybe 4 pairs. None were quite right. This lovely lady in watching him walk around in a pair of jeans did the miraculous job of a gait analysis while strolling the store. When we asked the guy about those other 36 pairs of shoes the former Olympian was Shut. Down. The exact words were, "No, we're done here". Fail. No good. Run by amateurs that know not what they do. Maybe they ran high school track? Maybe they didn't. They absolutely didn't take a class in customer service. read more

This place is GREAT! Friendly, knowledgable staff. Good selection. Wonderful exchange policy for shoes (90 days if you don't wear them outside). My salesperson, Christie, was so helpful. She looked at my old shoes (and showed real concern for my health after seeing how overused they were), measured my feet, watched me walk and picked three pairs of shoes for me without too much input from me. Then I got to test the shoes pretty extensively by running around the block in each pair and then in mixed pairs. Loved the low pressure sales environment and all the tips on how to choose the right shoe. Also picked up a Rubz ball (heaven!), some Body Glide (how have I lived without this?) and a new strap for my HR monitor for very reasonable prices. They also have free metro area race calendars and lots of info on running clubs and local parks. Could not have asked for a better experience. I can't wait to go back. read more

I walked in here years ago looking to upgrade from some cheap beat up sneakers. I had been going a few years on some cheap shoes and my feet were starting to hurt. A local runner friend of mine recommended the place. I walked in one lazy Saturday afternoon and was one of a few people in the place. The store is good sized with a variety of shoes and gear. A middle aged guy walked up and asked if I needed help to which I said yes. First he had me take off my shoes and roll up my pants and had me walk back and forth to look at my ankles. Afterwards he said I pronate and asked me about how much I run to figure out what I need. Next, he picked out some shoes for me, I tried them on and walked around a bit in each to pick the most comfortable pair. I ended up with the Brooks Arial which in retrospect was probably a little overkill for my level of pronation, but it did solve the problem. I ended up with a well fitting well made pair of running shoes. I've tried going to a regular shoe store, but somehow it always seems like the Nike's ans such just don't fit as well. If you want to get plugged into the local running scene they also have information on local races, 5k, 10k, etc. read more

As a complete noob to the sport , they made me feel at ease and confident , and were not the least bit condescending, didnt try to sell me the most expensive pair of shoes, or stuff I didn't need. They have a treadmill right in the store to try out your gear. It faces the street so you salesperson can go outside and watch you and judge stride for pronation. Nice touch! I wished I had read ALL the reviews before setting foot in this store. And beware of their return policy---Store credits only. I went here thinking they could help fit me in a new pair of minimalist running shoes. I told the salesperson I'm interested in looking at Minimalist running shoes because that's what I've been running in and are comfortable with. I have no arch problems. Without analyzing my gait by having me run on the treadmill, he just kept bringing thicker cushioned shoes for me to try. I tried them on, walked around in them but didn't feel comfortable. After I repeatedly told him I'm not interested in the thicker shoes, he admits he doesn't know much about running and the shoes he brought out for me to try are what "other runners" run in.
