This is by far my worst experience ever. I retracted my offer at the last minute because of their unprofessional experience. Me and my wife were first time home buyers and we visited Twin Valley homes by WestCott builders. We were working with openlistings (a site similar to redfin) where you get an agent assigned after you decide to make an offer for the house. We visited their onsite after getting details from openlistings website. We met an onsite agent Austin who declined to provide any details about an upcoming apartment unless we promise him to make our buyers agent. He withheld information intentionally. The apartment was however available on the market next date and we decided to move forward with offer via openlistings but they decline our agent 3% commission because we didn't register our agent. We were first time home buyers and we didn't knew about these rules. That's all good but the sellers agent Jackie insulted our agent when he approached her regarding the offer. They significantly deduct their commission from 3% to 1%. I understand their rules but Jackie being such unprofessional she not only insulted my agent when he called her she also refused to provide any more information about the house. On the contrary she lied about having multiple agents reached out to her on our behalf and she would tell me who was my agent rather than doing the other way around. Imagine putting your lifetime savings when you have to deal with such people. I tried to reach out someone from WestCott homes because my wife liked the place a lot but I couldn't get one single person contact from WestCott. Their Facebook page is managed but some contractors who don't respond to your messages. They gave me contact of Laura who also happened to be a vendor not a WestCott employee replied to my email saying that I should ask my agent to work for me without any agent commission. I asked her when did she worked for someone for a 0% commission and she had no answer. We decided to not pursue with their house and guess what the market cooled off. Their house wasn't sold for 6 months and they had to reduce the price. These WestCott agents play both ways. They first decline interest from good buyers because they want to make money off them and once they can't they convince sellers to reduce their price point to attract more buyers. Thankfully not all agents are like that. Some agents work in interest of their client. So if you are listening please remember, 1. Transparency is the key, withholding information isn't the best way to be profitable. If you have a policy put it on your website. Companies like Redfin are future and technology will eliminate all these problems so try to adopt rather than asking your clients to adopt to old methods. 2. Good buyers raise credibility of your neighborhood and community so please respect them and their representatives. 3. Hire good agents who work in best interest for your clients and you as opposed to their partners. 4. Please understand credible buyers always have other options. I would rather rent forever then dealing with them ever. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reply to Sara, There is nothing wrong with having a policy. The problem is not about policy itself but the unprofessional behavior I experienced by WestCott agents. And your reply exactly proves my point. You are defending your agents behavior rather than acknowledging that you have a communication gap which needs to be fixed exactly like Laura defended blindly Jackie and Jackie blindly defends Austin. As a client I don't have any credibility. Imagine signing a contract a with people who acts as if they have a monopoly. I am here to warn people that don't trust these guys because as potential client you have no credibility and if an agent on site make a commitment or provides any information then it is not backed by anyone from WestCott. Compare this behavior with other builders in town. I spoke with representatives in SeaPac and they clearly gave me an option to register or not to register regardless of the viewing apartment. read more

I've been a Westcott homeowner for almost ten years. While there are always issues with new construction, Westcott does a great job in resolving the issues in a timely manner. To that end, Robin Smithberg, director of warranty services has been a pleasure to work with. I recently experienced a leak in my roof which seemed to be a workmanship issue. Robin connected me to the original installers and even came out when the crew came to assess the roof. This is 10 years after the initial home purchase. Westcott demonstrated to me that they do not leave their customers high and dry and will continue supporting homeowners for many years after purchase! read more

Westcott Homes' Warranty Program has been very hard to deal with. First of all, we had drawers that were broken shortly after moving into our house. We contacted Westcott and scheduled an appointment for the subcontractor to come and fix. This was scheduled for the Monday before our wedding and I had taken the day off work. The subcontractor did not show up and the contact at Westcott Homes was unavailable. They contacted us later that week and scheduled a time when we would be back from our honeymoon and we had to take another day off work. We have completed our 11 month walk through and 2 of the subcontractors did not show up for the scheduled appointments, despite confirmation with Westcott they were scheduled - again, having to take 2 days off work. Westcott used a subcontactor who used such poor quality carpet, we are now needing it replaced and it has been a hassle the whole way through the process. They have made us feel as though we are the only ones with this carpeting problem and that we are over-exaggerating. This is the homebuilder's responsibility to build a quality home and all the items they subcontract should be quality as well. We enjoy our home but not all that Westcott brings to the table after the house is purchased. I would not recommend buying a house from them for this reason. read more

I purchased a née townhome two years ago at 38 lundin and I have had to make appointments for 12 major repairs already and today I had a repair man out to fix the washing machine that has been discontinued and cannot finds parts to it . I questioned westcott because new appliances were dented so I woundered if they purchase from dent sales ? I think I now no the answer ! Don't buy from westcott unless you have lots of free time for repairs ! read more

The buyer experience with Westcott (63 Dunbar) is by far the worst experience I have had. When viewing the available models, the staff refused to provide any detailed information that may require them to look at their computer. They provided inaccurate and incorrect information all the way until our contract was signed. If you're prepared to deal with lazy and uninformed staff, then you may enjoy the homes themselves, but be warned. read more

I will never purchase a Westcott home after how I was treated and the worst customer service experience by the sales agent, on 1/14, at the 63 Dunbar sales office. My wife and I are first time buyers, and in our mid twenties. So beyond not knowing anything about the buying process, I am sure we look just as lost. Upon entering the sales office, we were greeted by the sales agent, with the conversation going something like, "Hi, what's your price range?" She never even introduced herself or bothered to ask my wife or I our names. She then made it very clear their units were above our price range, which was a surprise and contrary to what we found online, but said we could tour the models if we wanted and she would catch up. We toured the models...but she never made an effort to "catch up" or walk us through them. My wife and I were so taken aback by what had happened we didn't care much about what the model homes looked like. On our way out she made a half effort to ask our opinion. All together I felt belittled and judged, for looking out of place at their establishment. read more

My partner and I toured a Westcott home for the first time. The use of space was thoughtful and useful. The quality of the build looked superior to other homes we looked at. The attention to detail and the finishes that were picked made it easy for us to see ourselves living in one of these homes. Jessica Gustelius was our showing agent onsite and was very helpful and made it a very knowledgeable and enjoyable visit. Hopefully in the future, we may purchase a Westcott home but definitely working with Jessica on our purchase. read more

I bought a new home from this builder the end of 2005. Now my main water pipe is broken underneath the driveway and the driveway is seriously broken. I will have to redo the driveway, which cost me about 10K! Going back in time, one month after I bought the home, it was discovered that they did the bathroom wall wrong and promised to all home owners of the community to get it replaced for free but they never came even after I called and reminded them multiple times. I will never buy another home from this builder and will tell everyone I know about this. read more

My family is very happy with our home built by Westcott. We started the buying process from the ground up which allowed us to choose a lot of the finishes that were important to us and made us feel the home was a bit more "custom". We were able to get all the latest features everyone is looking for - granite, hardwoods, stainless steel appliances, tile. The yard was landscaped nicely which made it very nice to enjoy the summer and entertain outdoors without our having to do much. We did have a couple of minor issues that needed to be repaired within six months of purchase but found their service great. They were really on top of it which made us feel they weren't just into taking our money and running. We did have one contractor show up about two hours late for an appointment which was annoying but we understand they have a lot of things going on. Once they arrived, they got right to work and were apologetic for the delay which was nice. We love our home, we are very happy with the finishes and service and would recommend them. read more
