Bacon wrapped barbecue shrimp on grilled pineapple

Originally open to the public in 1852. The newest owner Irene has polished this gem to shine. Food, drinks, and ambience excellent. Big fireplace, live music on most weekends. I highly recommend

Sat outside for dinner. Ambience was pleasant, as was the neighborhood, and staff super accommodating. The dishes were a mix of gems and misses. The steak crostini would have been much better with warm steak instead of cold (probably my fault for not asking). The steak in the Thai salad was the same as in the crostini, the salad was over salted (it was probably the dressing), and just overall underwhelming. The local trout was delicious. My niece thoroughly enjoyed her western burger. The cod was tasty but a bit over salted. Overall it was a pleasant find and you can certainly find yummy options.

The Western Hotel restaurant has some work to do but mostly in regards to their service. We asked to sit outside & instructed to seat ourselves but never got our menus so helped ourselves to those as well. The specialty drinks sounded enticing but took forever to be served- at a certain point the hostess finally visited our table and we ordered waters. Upon receiving a shared salad the waitress asked if we wanted utensils! The dinners were well presented and tasted okay but needed more descriptions on the menu. For example my order was sesame shrimp with a curry sauce I believe but didn't state it was breaded. The porch view and weather were lovely for dining plus inside would've been just as nice. I'd give them another chance - maybe next summer!

We were there on the first day the Western Bar opened. Connected with the Supper Club and Inn the Western is a unique spot in the western part of Sullivan County. The bartender Josiah is a craftsman in his own right. He gives the place a good vibe. Not a lot to do in this in this town, so finding a nice comfortable place to pause is always a plus. The word is the owner will continue to renovate the Inn and refresh the property. We'll wait to see how it all turns out and hope for the best as they grow the business.

When we got there, Robert greeted us and, when we asked about them, offered to give us a quick tour (we were the only ones there) for a donation to The Third Option Foundation (how could we say no, especially if it goes to an amazing cause?). To say he knew his stuff is an understatement; he made the complex process so easy to understand! The tasting was like a show in itself; between Brian and him, we really got to know their Bootlegger line of vodka, gins, and bourbons. While all of them tasted great, my personal highlights were the vodka and the bourbon cream. Theirs was the smoothest vodka I ever tried that I almost bought a bottle right then and there (waited until after the tasting, of course). The bourbon cream was like a dessert -- sweet, not too heavy, and, for someone who prefers vodka to bourbon, it made me appreciate bourbon more. Following suit with those who recommended it to me, I also recommend it if you're in/near Roscoe, especially if you want to support the local businesses.

It was a tasty dish but on the small side as were the other three. The place was pretty empty as you can see by the picture where the kitchen and bar is. There were two other small tables occupied. So 85 minutes later the meals came out. I'm not sure of the delay. I mean there are two cooks and one I believe is the owner. So being here for 90 minutes the tables started filling up quickly. The wait person did not come by once to give an update or to apologize for how long 4 dishes are taking to create. Nor did she say anything when the food was brought out. At the end, a walnut aperitif was brought out with mini pony glasses which was a nice gesture and it was good to digest with. If you order water be wary the "still water" is actually a bottled water for $9.00 a bottle, I would guess quart size. The place had a nice ambience and very clean. We were all saying we should go next door now and order a pizza!

Dim lighting, big comfortable leather chairs, bookshelves lining the walls, a fully stocked bar, and historic photos throughout the space create a classic lodge vibe that feels timeless without being stuffy. It is cozy, polished, and incredibly relaxing. The staff is knowledgeable and clearly takes pride in what they serve. The craft cocktails are well made and thoughtful, and if you prefer beer, there are solid options there too. As a bourbon lover, I especially enjoyed their private barrel pick served neat, a real treat and easily a standout pour. This is a perfect pre-dinner or post-evening stop, we have done both, and it works beautifully either way. Dress is slightly casual but leans upscale, and while pricing is a bit higher than average, it feels completely worth it for the setting, quality, and experience. We sank into the chairs, talked story with friends, and lost track of time, which really says it all. If you are anywhere near Skytop Lodge, make sure this is on your list. Plan extra time, you will want to linger.

And frankly, once you get there, the instagram photos just look like dupes. We booked a stay expecting an elevated Catskills getaway based on the property's marketing, pricing, and branding. Instead, we arrived at what felt like a hotel that was not ready to be operating at the level it advertises. Our room showed visible signs of unfinished renovation, including unpainted wall patches where fixtures had been removed, remnants of painter's tape, damaged paint on the door, and a bathroom barn door that would slide open on its own. The room was aesthetically minimalist to the point of being impractical (but not even that cute), with very little surface space and a surprising lack of outlets. The larger problem was the number of amenities and experiences that were unavailable or poorly executed. We were informed after check-in that dining service would be significantly limited due to a soft opening. The pool was not operating. Weekend yoga was unavailable despite being marketed. Parts of the property contained boxes and visible signs that preparations for the season were still underway. None of this was communicated before arrival. The food experience was equally disappointing. There was no vegetarian dinner option during our stay, which is difficult to understand at a hotel catering to a NYC weekend crowd. Breakfast was slow, and bad to the point of almost inedible. Even small guest-facing details reflected a lack of attention. For example, the s'mores were oddly restrictive, short on supplies, and featured marshmallows that were so hard they were difficult to roast. What made the experience particularly frustrating was that many of these issues seemed entirely avoidable. Weather is outside a hotel's control. Failing to communicate unavailable amenities, opening before operations are fully ready, and charging premium prices for an incomplete experience are not. The entire stay felt like a triumph of branding over hospitality. While the property photographs well from the right angle and with much moved out of the frame, far fewer aspects of it function well.

The resort is nestled in the Catskills surrounded by lush greenery and the smell of nature. The property is beautiful, very clean, and has that cozy modern woodsy aesthetic. It's perfect for a weekend getaway or if you just want to escape in nature for a couple of days. On the map the property looks huge, but everything is pretty quick to walk to. Our room was so lovely, and there is no TV which really gets you to be disconnected. There is a huge pool, with floaties and a truck side bar which was closed but is open on the weekends. There's also a sauna and gym which is overlooking the views of green hills. There is a nice lounge/communal area next to the cafe/reception where you can hangout and play all sorts of board games and have a nice drink. Outside there is also a covered area with a ping pong table, giant jenga, and connect 4. Each night they have a fire pit, weather permitting with smores. One of the nights it was raining so sadly no fire pits for smores, one of the staff members was so kind to heat up some smores for us and some other guests and it was nice to just have that little treat to make up for the weather. You can explore the beautiful grounds, where on a short walk across the road is their barn where they host weddings, a large pond, and if you walk further down you'll find yourself next to a stream. All the staff were so friendly and accomodating. I imagine it's more busy on the weekends especially when their pool bar and on site restaurant is open. It was a magical place. Can't wait to come back again.
