this might be my new favorite playground. located in Rosebank I love that there are 2 different…read moreplay structures but they're right next to each other. My oldest and youngest can still play on their own equipment but still be nearby. There are also swings- 2 regular and 2 baby seat. The playground has nice slides, monkey bars and plenty of different ways to climb.

There's a nice circle of smooth fresh pavement that can be used to roller skate, run, walk or scooter for the kids. Bathrooms are not open yet, it appears that it is still a work in progress. There is one porta poty and the few times I have visited it was decent if you had to go. Please don't mess this park up people. It's beautiful. Unfortunately last time I was there, some disrespectful person did graffiti on the ground. This is a nice escape from busy city life tucked away in the neighborhood.

Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking!…read more I was most definitely caught off guard by how green and well-maintained the trails at Clove Lakes Park were! Turtles, squirrels, and birds of all kind added to the experience. The trail I was on offered a lot of shade, so even though it was warm outside I did not feel overly hot or sweaty. It was also very quiet and peaceful, especially considering it was a Saturday afternoon.

Cross these to get to a few cool businesses. You should avoid the actual park and go check out these. It doesn't have a whole lot happening inside. It's because there's not a whole lot of room. This is just a small grassy area surrounded by streets. Businesses around the park are much more interesting. You can go to a hippie owned bookstore and performance space, craft beer at Flagship Brewery, and pizza at Flour and Oak. Inside the park is one interesting statue to look at. It honors the Spanish American War, in case you were curious. The park can easily be gotten to by a bus, and it isn't even that long of a walk from St. George Terminal.

The Chinese Scholar's Garden is as picturesque as it is serene. The architectural forms and beauty…read moreof the garden are a work of art. Definitely worth taking a trip to Staten Island! I particularly like how the wandering paths lead me back to the towering bamboo which is the entry point to the garden. The natural elements and the architecture built in the garden is a peaceful place fit for the scholar's meditation and study. There is a circular portal that leads to a courtyard with rocks that form a geometric pattern on the ground, guiding the eye to the organic shapes of the plants and trees. One element guides the eye to another element through contrast and even through repetition of shapes as can be seen in how there is a scallop edged wall behind this courtyard with the circular doorway. The circle motif is echoed in the design of the scallop edged wall beyond which flows another pond and yet more plants of different sizes. The landscape design also includes the waterfalls, pavilions and a rock-carved walkway with steps on it as well as a walkway that is zig-zagged! A great backdrop for picture taking with interesting rock formations along the pond in the courtyards. Also, when you pass by the koi fish pond, you could hear the splashing sounds they make as they swim around in the water. It brings an inner calm, tranquility and peacefulness to the viewers when they see the koi fish swim in the still water. I highly recommend a visit to the Chinese Scholar's Garden!

Right now, the Homeport Pier has only been open to the public for events such as Fleet/Week,…read moreOpSail, when a variety of ships moor there and open for public tours. Other than than, it's used for official business (and FDNY fire boat docks there). It was a naval base, but is decommissioned. However, a major redevelopment plan is moving forward, which should transform the rather barren cement into a public waterfront esplanade, as well as adding housing and retail stores. The plans look fairly nice, and they've started construction work, after long stalling... let's hope it finally comes together!

There is, indeed, a small promenade behind now, complete it was gutting station for fishers. Worth a visit, since paring is ample.
