On February 17th "John" from the 48th street Ace Hardware came at 8:05 am for our 4 hour handyman appointment. We had scheduled our request over the phone several days ago and he had no idea what we wanted him to do. Our primary goal for this appointment was to install our chandelier.  We were told that we would 'need an electrician for that' because the wiring was old.  Sid Connor told us we could do it ourselves quite easily, but I'm busy and short -- hence hiring an Ace Hardware handyman.  Our other projects includes:1) repairing a faucet to turn more easily. This would require a new faucet -- which was disappointing.  I was sent to buy a new faucet and John told me that either of two faucet styles would work. but was informed near 12pm that it did not fit and I needed the other kind.  John offered to leave the faucet in pieces and unusable.  I insisted that it would be put back together since I need to use my bathroom. 2) He repaired the back door, but did not check to see if it worked afterwards.  I had to call him back over to fix the storm door so I could leave the house and go to work. 3) Two upstairs doors needed to be repaired.  He complained that it might be impossible because they were older, but we had extra hardware.  The doors are totally normal. They just have pretty antique knobs and brass endplates.   One of the doors is fixed, the other is better but still does not work very well. 4) I wanted the bathtub overflow replaced by a new one.  After many excuses, mainly being that the bathtub was 'old', he agreed to try. I did not see him use any additional equipment like a new bathtub overflow kit. Eventually, he decided it couldn't be fixed and drilled the non-fitting screws flush and tore up the threads.  I don't understand why he didn't have the correct size screws with him. He had a whole truck full of equipment He made this project much worse. 5) Hanging a piece of stained glass: I didn't dare asking him to even try at this point. John accomplished:  Fixing 2.5 doors and one faucet in 4 hours. And he made my bathtub worse.  For 500$ and big disruption to my and my husband's day.  I deeply regret hiring Ace Hardware for these repairs.  This was supposed to be a nice present for myself to have these things in my home fixed and a little fancy.  Instead, I have a 500$ bill, a waste of time, and more work to return John's hoodie and the faucet he didn't use. read more

Service was unbelievably great! I walked in and was greeted immediately by an associate. He asked how he could help me. I handed him my car fob and told him that I needed a screw. He took it from me, found the right size of screw, screwed it, and handed it back to me. It was an easy transaction. read more

Here's the thing, will you have the best service ever here and consistently get the worst from another person who works here. There's really no one around to help. If you have questions about what you need, this is not the best place to go. I've actually went here and wandered around for 10 minutes looking for someone to help me and found no one. I am in the middle of a horrible experience with this store today. I placed an online order, and sent my husband to pick it up, with the receipt showing I had paid with PayPal. He had a little trouble with picking it up, as the staff there couldn't seem to find the paperwork, but they gave him the merchandise, which he brought home the order totaled $171.00. I ordered on line for pick up in the store to get a $10 discount. Later, I notice a voicemail message from someone in the store. The message tells me they "lost" the order and may not be able to fill it. ???? In spite of the fact that I am not feeling well, and have tons of tasks to complete in order to get ready for an out-of town trip tomorrow, I call back. The worker I talked to was not the same man as the one who left the message, and after I explained that we already had the merchandise, he agreed it was a misunderstanding between workers and the call ended. A few minutes ago, I got a call from the same young man I had spoken with on the phone. He tells me now that the order is missing from their computer, and he needs me to pay for the stuff. I explain that I already paid for the order, on line, and have the receipt to prove it. He wants me to speak to his manager. I tell him, "No. Not my problem. I don't have time to get involved in interstore confusion. He transfers me to the manager anyway. The manager greets me with, "Hello, Westlake Ace Hardware-- how can I help you?" I say, "Wait, YOU called ME." He figures out who I am and claims Dougl left the store without paying for the merchandise. I say, no--I paid for it on line, and I have the receipt. What order number are you going by? He won't give it to me, and still wants me to pay. I tell him it is not my problem. He continues to argue. I yell at him, and hang up. read more

I was looking for furnace filters, The store brand was inexpensive, and the service was excellent. The price was better than Big Box store with only brand names. The plus was that were significantly closer. read more

Since Westlake Ace Hardware moved into their "new, better" location, I've not had a good experience. They always seem short staffed at the register. In fact, I hate their "cattle chute" check out that funnels the customer to the registers. Even though there are three (I believe), there has only been one checker any time I have been there. The sales associates seem as confused as I am as to where anything is. I live in the neighborhood and it was always easy for me to just run over to get something quick. Anymore, I drive out to Home Depot or Menard's to get what I need because I can get the help I need, get checked out, and drive the round trip faster than the couple of blocks to Westlake. Sorry, guys. I think there are things that need to be worked on before you become the store I used to love again. read more

The employees here go so far above and beyond! I bought an outdoor dog kennel this summer and after I got home an employee called me to offer me two more pieces for my dog kennel for 90% off when I came back to pick up the kennel. Another trip to this hardware store I needed some plumbing hardware. An employee greeted me at the door and then helped me find exactly what I needed and then explained how to install it. These guys are so helpful and nice! read more

The staff is always courteous and immediately help me find whatever I am searching for. Their glass cutter is a perfectionist and, as an artist who is framing paintings, I dearly appreciate his work. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. I bought a "new" grill there and got home and found crusted food inside the grill and grease in the trap...it had clearly been used but was sold to me as "new." When I returned it nobody said anything other than "huh...sorry." I'll never go back. read more
