I grew up going to Apple Market and it always has a decent selection of products, though I feel like the prices are little higher than Kroger/Meijer, so it wouldn't be my first stop for a major grocery haul. Went to Westlund's this past Saturday. The moment we walked through the door we were met by what appeared to be a drug addict clutching a pint wrapped in a brown paper bag. We went to the meat dept and found great prices. We picked up some store made brats, 2 lbs of hamburger and 2 NY strip steaks. The steaks were ok. Too much gristle and hidden fat on the bottoms hidden in the package. The brats literally made me sick. Several hours after eating one I became violently ill. The hamburger turned on the second day in our fridge. So basically we threw away 30.00. So much for saving money. The prices on things like rice was over a dollar more than at other stores. I'd say skip this place. It's not worth it. read more

I frequent this store about 3 to 4 times a week in an effort to support small local businesses, spending about $800-$900 per month. Today was the last time, ever! I'm tired of paying higher prices for inferior products. The vegetables look like something that larger stores would throw out as unsellable. I'm tired of picking up a product marked with one price and paying another. Today I saw a table with pies displayed and a sign that read $5.99, directly placed over boxed pies from the Grand Travers Pie Co. I picked one up and went to the counter. Image my surprise when they charged me $16.99. I asked the clerk about the price difference and he called over a manager. She walked over to the table and told me that the advertisement was for in house pies, not the pies directly under the sign. I'm done! I'll take my business and money to Kroger or Meijer..... and save a few bucks too. read more

I love this place. Good product selection for a small store, including locally made products. Very good sausage, for meat eaters. Friendly, helpful staff. Sure it's a bit more expensive than the big chains, but not hugely so, and there are weekly specials. It's more important than ever to support locally-owned, neighborhood-centered businesses. read more

One of the best meat departments in town, which is why I give it a five. It's a smaller store so they won't have everything Meijers has naturally, and some prices will be higher, but it's a convenient location where they do care about your experience as a customer. read more

I've been a seasonal resident in the area around Westlund's Apple Market for most of twenty years, and I've never had a bad experience there. During the COVID problem, Westlund's has remained fully staffed and as fully-stocked as circumstances allow. Sure, I could go somewhere else, but I believe that a neighborhood grocery like Westlund's is a vital thing, and I like everyone on staff and look forward to seeing them when I shop, frequently at the deli counter. Just your basic neighborhood grocery store. They selection leans toward basics and traditional stuff. You won't find gourmet cooking ingredients or much in the way of international or vegetarian/vegan stuff (Goodrich's has got you covered for that). I love Apple Market. This small, neighborhood grocery store has a surprising variety of food. Their produce section has a good variety of organic produce and Asian options. During the outbreak, certain items have been difficult to find, but that isn't the fault of the store. Their meat section is always well-stocked and there are butchers on hand for special requests. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The store is clean and it has a decent deli and wine/packaged liquor sections. I'm so glad this store is in my neighborhood! read more

We live one mile from this store. It is a great little grocery store that has the BEST fried chicken around - and we have tried them all in this area! Their pre-cooked whole chickens are also very good. Another good thing we like is the friendliness of this smaller store which is not crowded and noisy. Those of us who are not interested in fighting the crowds in the larger stores appreciate this. Their meat counter is very nice also. It is the basics, but good quality for a good price. We greatly appreciate having this fine store in our neighborhood, and often shop there instead of the larger Kroger or Meijer stores. Smaller can be better in some ways. read more

Very, very, very small grocery store. Literally has like 8 aisles...maybe. I'd actually driven past it for about a month before I even realized it was there. I recommend going only if you're looking for the basics. Being tiny, the selection is lacking. There's things that seem like no brainers and should be there but, then I remember, it's not CVS. So, all in all, it's kinda a tough sell. read more

Westlund's Apple Market is a great place to get away from the Hassel of going to a gigantic chain supermarket. Westlund's always has fresh handsome looking produce and meat that is weeks from the posted expiration date in comparison to Meijer or Kroger where the meat on the shelves is always past the posted date of expiration. read more

Locally owned grocery store. One of the few left in Lansing. Not the biggest or the best, but this place has heart and your damn right I'm gonna shop local whenever I can! They do have craft beer, an awesome deli, and hummus from Aladdin's down the road. So really, how can you complain? read more

We drive from Howell for their budget stretcher sales. I can usually buy New York Strip at Westlunds for the same price as hamburger locally. We have not really had any problem with any of the meat we buy there as I vacuum freeze it within 24 hours of bringing it home. The hamburger has always been very lean, the steaks very tasty, their in store Italian sausage is very good. Well worth the 45 minute drive for the quality of the meat. It is also nice to be able to talk to the butcher and they slice the whole loins to your specifications. I have recommended to several friends and often pick up their orders too! read more

Just your average, small grocery store here, but I have to give them an extra star for their excellent meat department. I also like the staff: friendly people and no nonsense. Due to them not pushing the volume that a place like Meijers does, some of their stuff is a little bit more on the pricey side, but if you shop smart you'll usually come out alright. read more

Westlund's has a wonderful small town up north feel. We love the deli and meat sections. Some of the best meats in town! We love the fresh deli salads. We have no problem doing most of our weekly shopping there and they are willing to add new items to their store stock if you ask. The only think I wish is that they had a larger produce section, (the only reason they didn't get 5 stars). read more

Family owned, with 8 aisles of just about anything you need and they are always improving! You would be hard pressed to find a better place to go, friendly people, great selection, and great deals. This place is a slice of America! There are few places where you can actually see your money at work, but they are always working to make their store better for everyone who shops there. Not to mention that they have THE BEST meat department in town, a delicious deli and bakery and a great craft beer selection. This is your once common neighborhood grocery store with a great meats and adult drinks, all the standard groceries, some home fixer upper things and a tasty deli. Their meatloaf is really delish. Staff are uber friendly and take the time to help. It's not Walgreens to be sure, but it is still really top notch for everything except....produce. Produce has been hit or miss, and I have been going for about 25 years. If you get there when the truck comes in, you're golden. If it's been a few days, it's been a few days. They also have good sales. read more
