When you think of fall in the midwest, this is the kind of place you want to spend a Saturday afternoon (provided it's actually nice weather and not that fake 88 degree fall weather). We had been going to another nearby orchard for apple picking, but the shine wore off that and Weston Red Barn Farm is our new pick. It's a great little escape from Kansas City that's under an hour drive from downtown itself. They have: -Tons of pumpkins -A maze -Goats, chickens, horses, pigs, and other animals -Cider slushies, candies, and fall goodies While we most recently visited on a Monday (kids were off school), the weekends are where it's at here. They have more food options, pony rides, and other fun stuff for the kids. It's understandably quieter during the week. Oh and let's not forget the overall setting: bucolic, relaxing, and pretty beautiful for Missouri countryside is I may say so myself. I totally see why people get married here. read more

I've been coming here for 4 years. The farm is great, they have a great variety of pumpkins, it doesn't cost anything to get in, and their apple cider slushees are very good! I have to give a lower rating this year because they don't have much on their website as far as Covid guidelines. I reached out to see if they'd allow visitors to walk to the pumpkin patch to avoid the crowded wagon and they said no. I also asked if the wagons would have distance between seats and they said no. I realize outside is a little safer but I don't want to be forced onto a wagon with strangers who may not be wearing masks. This review is more for people who are wondering about their guidelines and if it's safe. They do usually have pre-picked pumpkins for sale that you don't have to ride a wagon to get to which is nice but I think I'll have to find a pumpkin patch that has some actual guidelines for Covid this year. read more

As quaint as it gets. I'll be conservative with my stars and not let my former lack of exposure to such places color my opinion here. But... I bet if you grew up 'round these parts, you might let nostalgia get in the way of your critical thinking. I don't blame you! The Midwest surely is ground zero for The Great Pumpkin. I'm trying to figure out what sets this one apart from the others, though. The pumpkins are pricey, I'm not gonna lie and any attraction that's going on, you're going to pay for. That's fine and good, but... if it's *just* a bunch of pumpkins you're looking to buy, I think you may be better off heading to a locally-owned nursery in town and getting them there. If you're looking for the tractor ride through the fields, strolling around the charming country store, and pretending to love the grain-grubbing goats in the petting zoo experience, Weston Red Barn Farm is worth the drive up from KC (and it's a quite scenic one at that). read more

This lovely pumpkin patch farm is located off the beaten path, but it has lots of charm. The food options were decent at the little kitchen they have with a walk-up window. You have to stand in line and purchase a ticket to get onto the tractor that takes you out to the pumpkin patch. Overall, this is a nice getaway for the kids as the Fall Season kicks off. read more

Red Barn Farm is a virtual wonderland of wholesome family fun. It's like somehow sucked all the sarcasm and cynicism out of me, and replaced it with baked apples and petting zoos. It was just so good to see so many people of all ages just out in the country enjoying themselves that I couldn't help but join in on the good times. The main. attraction at Red Barn Farm is certainly their pumpkin patches. Sure, you can just walk up and buy a pre-cut pumpkin, but why are you driving all the way to Weston to do what you could at Hy-Vee? No, take the hay ride out into their land and then wander around a patch, looking for the perfect pumpkin. Trust me, it's there. Even with the incredibly dry summer we had, the owners worked incredibly hard to keep the crops irrigated, and their efforts were rewarded with a bounty of frickin huge pumpkins. I loved it. My second favorite attraction was the small apple orchard. For a small fee you can get a basket (one of three sizes) and stroll along, picking your own apples. Now I can see how this would be great for families, but I also think it'd be an AWESOME date. It's pretty romantic and stuff. In the back corner of the orchard they have a number of beehives, which were fascinating to watch. Also worth mentioning is their barnyard, with a variety of animals you can watch, and some you can even pet. I touched: a goat, a pig, a pony, and a mule. Pretty rad, huh? They also have a pony ride and a corn maze, though neither of those are my cup of tea. I'm sure kids love them, but alas, I'm not a kid. Finally there's a country store, with a variety of awesome products. There's a whole wall of jarred stuff that should basically be called "The Bloody Mary Garnish Emporium" and of course apple and pumpkin products out the wazoo. Weston Red Barn Farms is really a quick drive from KC, and I just cannot stress enough how worth the trip it is. If you don't go, I'll probably question why you don't want your kids to have a happy childhood. read more

One of my sorority sisters had her wedding here last Friday evening. Living in Dallas now, it was a nice treat to drive through Kansas City and into Weston, Missouri to experience Red Barn Farm. There were two different weddings going on at the same time. So, there were employees standing near the entrance to direct us to the right wedding. I've been coming to the Red Barn for as long as I can remember. It has certainly changed over the years, and has grown in popularity but it still maintains the charm of the country and you really can't beat the natural beauty of Weston. If you are looking for the cheapest pumpkins or apples you probably should purchase them from the grocery store, however, if you want high quality local pumpkins or apples that you can pick yourself this is the place for you! I realize they aren't the cheapest but you are paying for the experience and helping to support a local business. Additionally, I am getting married here in a few weeks and so far the owners of the barn have been amazing to work with. They are always available to discuss the event and give suggestions, and in addition the venue was really reasonably priced to rent for both the wedding and the reception. read more

Red Barn Farm is a staple in my family's fall. My mom and I spent a Monday in Weston (choose a different day -- most stores in town are closed on Monday), and I couldn't think of a better day off. We walked around the farm, enjoyed an apple cider slush and then went to the gift shop. The rolling hills and changing trees are such a simple, but stunning beauty once October hits. We also stopped across the street to the old Vaughn's Apple Farm, which seems to be owned by Red Barn Farm now (?). It's a cute little gift store and I think it is pretty awesome that they are involved with the special needs community by having them come out and develop life skills by working out on the farm. So we decided to revel in the Fall Festival even without kids. Every Fall, working farms all over the country have Fall Festivals to herald this great season with an array of activities to charm families across the United States as the harvest begins and the weather turns wonderful. Children are the biggest beneficiaries. We took part in everything. The tractor hay ride, the corn maze. Well there was the horse drawn hay ride but we didn't do that. The tractor hay ride was fun fun fun, as it chugs along the dirt road through the farm, offering a very scenic view. We were herded onto it and crammed on the wooden/plastic (can't remember) seats facing each other. It makes a stop at the pumpkin patch, where everyone gets off to pick their own pumpkins right off the ground to buy, which is a sight to behold. If you have only lived in the suburbs and the city, you have to see a pumpkin patch in its natural state (rather than in some theme park) and in the flesh at least once. Just for the fun of it and it is very fun. Then there's the amazing sight of rows and rows of bulbous pumpkins that had been picked, on display. Great photo op. The corn maze is lame, but it made for great photo op. The great thing that sets Red Barn apart is the array of farm animals on "exhibit", so it functions as a free petting zoo in a way. So this keeps the children excited for at least 30 minutes. They are geese, chickens, turkeys, sheep, pigs and other farm animals, all living happily in Red Barn until it's time for them. Entry to Red Barn itself is free, while hay rides and corn maze are chargeable during the Fall Festival. There's also a farmer's store as expected, selling pumpkins, preserves, natural soaps, honey, lots of good stuff. The prices here are higher than other farms, do take note. If that matters, buy at another farm but come here for the farm animals. read more

Part of a wedding here last fall, first of all absolutely beautiful spot, both the timber barn and the vistas. I'm not personally a barn wedding gal but it is stunning. The wedding coordinator was very knowledgeable, affable and incredibly helpful both in venue planning visit as well as day of event. The 3 stars are for the staff, other than 1 young man, who was above and beyond, whose name I wish I could remember, but unfortunately not there for duration of event. The rest of team acted very much like seasonal staff. Opposite of helpful. Sitting around, shooting the breeze, occasionally issuing poorly delivered directive about something the guests were doing wrong. At breakdown they were literally watching clock as time to be out was mid nite, and we were hustling. Not friendly or helpful. Just not great customer service. I realize event spaces are a business but in the afterglow of a wedding they could be I dunno maybe nice. read more

I have wanted to go here for years, I finally made it and it was a bucket list thing to do. However, having waited years I had very high hopes and it may have been why I left feeling it wasn't all I had hoped. Even still it's going to be neat for kids and they have a lot for kids here. It's also a rental building area for events and that may be a good fit, as the south part of the barn is for that and looked very nice. The General store in the barn was neat and the huge selection of pumpkins is second to none, but that goes for high priced pumpkins too. They may go on sale as weeks pass though. The food was food, but nothing to put this on the map. The hill is also steep so if you park at the bottom and have kids or elderly people with you it's a bit steep to hike to the top. The Apple orchards aren't in great shape, poison ivy in them and bugs had hit the apples fairly hard. It may just be this year though as we didn't have a cold winter and the bugs may have hit hard this summer. It's a neat place to visit at least once, but know what to expect going in and what it's not. I think that was my fault, I had high hopes going in. read more

One of the greatest experiences EVER with my kids at Halloween took place at this fantastic establishment. It's a real deal farm in a beautiful location. You can take a tractor ride out to pumpkin fields and pick your own. You feel like you're in the middle of the woods (because you are) and can really have some quality time with the little ones. There is a petting zoo and all kinds of little things for the littles ones to do. We took a horse drawn carriage ride through the woods as well... so cool. We also went one time earlier in the year and picked apples. There are a couple of different apple orchards on the property and you are free to pick and pay as you go. It was all a great time and really priced pretty well compared to anything similar that I've been to in the past. read more

Every time we come to Weston Red Barn Farm we have the best experience, whether we're attending private events at their venues or just taking part in the farm experience. The gentleman that runs/owns the place is so nice (Donovan is his name I believe). The last time we were there our truck's battery died and he was so gracious to help us get it jumped and back on the road. 5 stars isn't enough...they get 10 stars in my book! I've been to the Red Barn farm each fall before Halloween for pumpkins with my friends and it has become an annual tradition of ours. The farm has all sorts of fall time activities for the kids and young at heart. Hay rides, pumpkin patch, small general store, horse rides, animals to see, food, and places to just relax on a fall day. Just a good old fashioned pumpkin patch experience. The barn can also be rented for events. I've been to two weddings at the farm and both were fun and beautiful, with the barn serving as a cool event space. Definitely worth the trip north. read more

If you are looking to have a charming outdoor wedding, Red Barn Farm is the absolutely perfect place. This venue supplies a beautiful backdrop as it is surrounded by hills and trees, and is secluded from highways, etc. We were able to get married in the Apple Orchard which we found romantic and personalized. After the ceremony, farmer Steve took our wedding party on a hay-rack ride and we drank champagne while watching and enjoying a sunset together. The scenery and fall colors along our hayrack ride were stunning, and spending this time alone with our wedding party / closest friends was really special for us, and something we will always remember. The barn itself is rustic and charming, without being cheesy or "redneck" as some of the other similar venues in the KC metro were. Because of the beautiful scenery, not much decorating was really needed. Instead of spending money on flowers, we were able to use pumpkins and gourds sold at the farm (we don't think flowers are necessary because of all the color and interesting things to look at - already in the venue). We also used apple boxes and vintage doors owned by the venue for no additional cost. Many of our guests mentioned that our wedding was the best they had ever been too, because of the beautiful setting. We would say the same for weddings we have attended at Red Barn Farm. We really loved working with and getting to know farmer Steve, and can't say enough good things about him. He's a great guy, gave us a lot of really helpful tips and information, and we believe he genuinely cared about our wedding versus seeing us as just another customer. The Weston Red Barn has everything that speaks to the inner country kid in me. Hayrides, bonfires, corn maze, chickens, cider, and amazing views of the tree covered hills taking on the colors of the fall. The apple slush was amazingly delicious and well worth the $1.25 on an unseasonably toasty fall day. There is a beautiful event space that would be perfect for weddings, family reunions, or any other excuse to spend some time in the authentically rustic barn. The country shop has a multitude of quirky crafts and apple products, although many of them were shipped in and all of them were over priced. As compared to Louisberg Cider Mill there is much more to do at this fall destination, but the fact that you are drinking cider that is made on site at Louisberg does give it some points. I would have loved to have spent some more time checking out all of the different attractions and taking a hay ride through the fields. It was the Weston Apple Fest weekend, however, and the place was absolutely mobbed and some of the people doing said mobbing were not nearly as agreeable as the fine fall weather. I can't take any points off for the destination's apparent success, but I do look forward to going on a weekend that isn't quite so crazy. All in all a charming destination and a great way to get into the spirit of fall and get out of the city. read more

Let me preface this review by stating that I am by no means an expert when it comes to Pumpkin Patches. I remember going to them when I was a kid growing up in Ohio, and since then the Weston Red Barn Farm is the only place that my family gone to pick pumpkins since our son was born last summer. So here we go... When I first started researching pumpkin patches in the Kansas City area, I was drawn to Red Barn Farm because it seemed less commercialized than some of the others around town. Rather than feeling like a day at the amusement park, spending a day at Weston Red Barn Farm feels like spending a day on the farm - albeit a super crowded farm with lots of lines. Visitors to Red Barn Farm have a variety of activities to choose from while you're there. You can see and pet the farm animals, you can walk through the apple orchards and pick apples, you can venture through the corn maze, you can do some shopping at their little on-site country store, kids can take a little "train" ride through the grounds, or you can do what you probably came to do in the first place - take a hay ride back to the pumpkin patch and pick the perfect pumpkin for your family. In our 2 visits to Red Barn Farm, the only two activities that we've taken advantage of have been the farm animals and the pumpkin patch. And in my opinion, the pumpkin patch is top-notch! For starters, it's in a beautiful setting! I also love that they let you just trek through the fields and actually pick your own pumpkin and cut it from the vine. Important note here - those stems are prickly, so beware! And for those who prefer not to get down and dirty and pick your own pumpkin, they have plenty of the pre-cut variety as well, so there's truly something for everyone. But no visit to Red Barn Farm is complete without grabbing some delicious fall food on the way out. Barbeque? Check. Apple donuts? Check. Kettle corn? Check. It's all so good after a day of exploring the farm. My only complaint? The bees! But I guess they come with the territory. We look forward to returning next year for even more fun on the farm! read more

The orchard was fantastic! Loved the animals and the apple trees. Great place to take children. Loved the gift shop. We arrived an a weekday along with about 5 school busses. It was great seeing the little ones getting a tour/education. It looked like a very organized outing for the school kids. My complaint is that once we arrived (first timers)....the lady at the desk wasn't very friendly. I told her it was our first time there....mind you...there was one other couple in the gift shop....it wasn't busy. She charged us for the wrist bands and gave us a paper & sent us on our way. We got out and were exploring & had to track someone down to ask about the hayrides.....that was a separate purchase back in the gift shop....then we walked up to the apple orchards......wanted to pick a couple apples for our kids....nope, had to go back and pay for a basket. With two toddlers it wasn't easy to keep going back to the gift shop. My point is that I mentioned we were new & were not told about any of the opportunities beside "here is your wristband, my staff will look for it, make sure it can be seen". Not impressed. read more

Great little family outing at their pumpkin patch. Great for pictures and it's free to just wander around. The attractions like pony or hay rides are a la carte and reasonably priced. The kids had a great time and everyone working there was friendly and helpful. The cider slush was delicious- the line for donuts was daunting but we will return. The pumpkin patch is legit- bring a little pocket knife to cut one off the vine, and wear boots or jeans to trek through the vines to find your perfect pumpkin! read more

This farm is amazing! We have gone a few times to include the day before they technically opened this season (Fall 2018) and the owner, his daughter, and granddaughter were beyond awesome! They gave us a personal tour, spoke about the animals on the farm, and spent over an hour with us when they could have easily told us that they weren't open until the next day. Our youngster still speaks about the "baby tow" that they let her pet, feed, and watch run around as they told us all about calves and when they enter the world-- beyond cool! We have since gone back a couple more times and have yet to be disappointed. For one, there is a clear appreciation and sense of responsibility this farm takes to show they aren't simply about making money off all its visitors where other farms in the KS/MO areas are for fall. They don't charge for parking even though they definitely could, the owner is typically out directing traffic flow and keeping an eye on things, there's no cover to get in, and the items you pay for are worth the price. It's so cute, quaint, and a must for anyone with kids who wants to pick apples, get some pumpkins and squashes for the season, and/or walk around seeing/petting the animals and learning about the farm life. We will attend every year we are here-- no doubt. read more

Since this weekend marks the annual Weston Applefest I figured I would finally review the Red Barn Farm. Go early if you go this weekend because it will be a mad house. They only have two registers and the lines will be very very long. People will cut in line because they really have no defined lines of way to get to the registers. They have bags of apples and all sorts of apple products. Apple Butter, Apple Cider, Apple Pies which have butter in them so I can't eat them, but they have Apple Dumplings that are dairy free and are AMAZING. You can buy them frozen and take them home and throw them in the freezer until you are ready to bake them. They also have a little shack out back where you can get hot apple cider and apple donuts. The shack only takes cash just FYI. They is also a little haunted house barn to the left of the Red Barn that is fun to run through. Nothing scary just fun. Parking is hard to find on weekends like Applefest. Last year we were able to find a spot in the parking lot after driving around 100 times. There are other lots where you can park and ride a bus over to the barn and it only cost $5.00 read more

I came through here while on a road trip and was hoping for a fun afternoon of picking. However, I had missed most fruits by a day and was horribly let down after a 30 minute detour into the orchards that I couldn't do anything on the farm that day. Regardless, the owner was very nice and allowed us to walk through his fields to look at his crops and we walked to some stables to see his animals. Had I come here during a harvest day, I know I would have loved it, so for anyone who may think of coming, call ahead and some small planning can get you into a full day of fun! read more

This place is just ok. I came on a field trip and I was fall outside but it was still pretty warm. They do not allow any food or drink on the tour which is completely understandable, but they did not allow water either. I could barely get trough the place because my mouth was so parched. They had lots of animals to see which was the only plus. They hay ride was pretty boring. I saw lots of corn fields but that's it. I'm going to try coming on my own without the school to see if it's better as far as being able to pick apples and pumpkins. read more

Unfortunately this was a very poor experience for us. We got married outside the Timber barn. We had a small wedding of about 20 people. 6 people in our group had ticks on them when we left and my wife contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite. When we asked them about spraying that area for ticks they said they never do and don't plan on doing it. It's unfortunate they don't take better care of the facilities with so many people coming through there. read more

We were married outside in the field with the reception following in the barn. the owner, steve, took the bridal party on a hayride for photos out in the field, and it was so beautiful. I realize I'm in a different "patch" when it comes to my two stars but let me explain! Red Barn Farm is not for the budget friendly, nor the.....er.... just friendly. We were out to find a pumpkin patch so we'd have our October essentials without the supermarket setting. It's a family tradition (as I outlined in my review on Alldridge Farms) but my family doesn't include children. But if it did, I'm not sure how I'd feel about dropping cash every turn of the corner at this farm-with-all-the-bells-and-whistles. Aren't we in a recession? The hayride just to get to the patch was $3 a pop and you don't have the option of walking. The pumpkins start at $12 and go as high as $50. That's compared to smaller farms that start at $4. The employees weren't exactly the friendliest as one scoffed at me when I asked about the prices and another barked at us for using the wrong steps to the pumpkin display. Yikes! The good news: they have a petting zoo, horse drawn carriage rides and even a well decorated gift shop. The bad news: it'll cost ya! I have to give it a few stars though because before we fast tracked it to the exit - I stopped to use the restroom which was very nicely updated with high efficiency urinals. hmmm....wonder how a farm could afford such luxuries? read more

The staff is not very friendly during their busy season in the fall. Yes, they deal with hundreds of people in a few short weeks in the fall, and I expect a little common courtesy when they are talking my money. Hey, It wouldn't kill them to smile and say "Enjoy your visit" or even Thank You. Petting zoo is quaint, but the animals have seen better days ( and I'm not a novice with animals.) They will lead you to believe that all the apples in the shop come from their orchard...unless you ask a direct question, and even then the woman at the counter was a bit evasive. Weston used to be a huge apple producing region, and WRBF is still capitalizing on that nostalgia. We went for three years in a row until we wised up and started exploring other places around Platte City. This place is too crowded, lines are too long, and we felt too rushed, and it is overpriced for the experience. read more
