Who needs to go to Wine Country in California when you have great wineries right here in the KC area! Located in Smithville, on acres of grapes and vineyards, Ladoga Ridge was the absolute perfect place for a wine double date. Family owned and operated since 2011, Ladoga offers a wide variety of dry, semi-sweet, sweet, reds, whites, and fruits to pair with local cheeses and meats. They offer tastings as well 5, for $5 to ensure you like what you are ordering. We took 2 bottles home, plus their mulling spices because I fell in LOVE with their mulled wine. On Friday and Saturday nights they have locals bands play outside, they light the fire pit, and turn on the hanging tree lights to create the perfect ambience for a winery evening. Ladoga is named after the dirt on the land, the owners have perfected the grape growing process then turning them into wine. I can only imagine the amount of time it takes, but the flavors are well worth it. Would 100% visit again.

    Peach wine slushie

Their wine is so good! Had a peach wine slushie! It was amazing. Also did a quick wine tasting and it was really great. The inside is very nice and lots of places to sit, even an outdoor area to sit.

Visited Ladoga today for some wine. We got there around 12:15 and it wasn't busy at all. You can taste two wines for free. Unfortunately, we didn't love any of the wines we tried. The vignoles was the one I preferred, if you like dry wines the selection is small. We ended up ordering some wine slushees, which were pretty good. The staff was friendly and the property is pretty. If you like sweet wines, you might be able to find something you like.

Good wine great views why not come here! My friends and I came here to get out and have a good time. When we got here we got two free tastings of wine and they have a pretty good variety. After tasting some of their wine we got some of their blackberry wine slushees which were super good. They have a really good red wine Chambourcin, got 2 bottles to go. The only thing I did not really like is if you wanted to get food you went inside and bought bread, cheese, meat and crackers individually and kind of create your own charcuterie board. They do allow you to bring in outside food though. I really enjoyed the great views of the vineyards and the wine! Will be back when I come in the area.

Lots of outdoor seating, great wine selection, and overall just a great experience. In this time of covid I felt very comfortable and that I had enough space to relax without my mask. Will definitely be returning. Also just note that no children are allowed!

Ladoga ridge Winery.. what a beautiful winery. If only the customer service matched it. For starters this place is nearly impossible to get ahold of. Their voicemail says to reach out on fb and Instagram for a quicker response. That is far from the truth. When I did get someone on the phone she was finally able to help me but not super excited or nice about it. I booked a gazebo for a party of 12 girls and I'm so glad we did so we had our own space! But If I would of been to the winery before I would of known there was plenty of free open seating but the gazebo was nice for less sun and more personal space. The only thing about the gazebo is you literally pay for the space. Nothing else. You don't get service, you don't get ice and wine to your table nor do you get someone to clean up after you. I mean we're adults we don't need someone to clean up after us. But you would think paying for a rented space we wouldn't have to worry about putting our glasses up and cleaning the table off. Lastly. Every single one of my girls mentioned how they felt the lady at the bar was very rude. Super unfortunate because the winery itself is beautiful. I will definitely be trying out other wineries before going back. Hope you have a better experience.

I don't really do many reviews so bear with me. This is our favorite winery around. Several that we have tried in the KC area have wine that is good, just not as full and flavorful. I guess we are spoiled from being here. The wine selection is great. Everything from sweet fruit wines to the semi dry Sully's (my favorite) to Chambourcin and the dry Galen's Red which I like alot too. I think I have counted about 12 different wines, (maybe more) . I like slushie, especially when it's hot out but some of their slushies are too sweet for me but following their FB page, I see that they change up the flavors they offer so I guess I need to try others now that it's getting warmer. I do REALLY like the Red one (Ladoga Red?) You can really taste the wine in it. :-) It's a beautiful place indoors and out. Not rustic like most others in the area that we have been to. The grounds and property are beautifully maintained everything is so CLEAN. It reminds me of a couple really nice wineries on the east side of the state. Also, a family member has a hard time getting around and it is easy to walk around here on the sidewalks and patios so I would say it's handicapped friendly. I, for one, LOVE that it is no kids. I love children (have had my own and have grands now) but it is really nice to have somewhere to go that is peaceful and no crying etc. There are TONS of places for families to go. Nice to have a place carved out for adults. As for people complaining about the age thing. It IS a bar, after all and there are signs that tell everyone that it's 21 and over, including infants and toddlers. I even saw it on their FB page. Yet there are people that go in anyway, then get mad when asked to leave. Seems entitled. I don't get it. Go back for date night! The ladies in the tasting room are friendly, even when very busy (I hate that you can't see people smile...masks make it tough) very helpful with tastings and information about the wines. Sometimes they are really busy so the customers have to wait a bit. Maybe they could staff more. We have been there when there is just one working and there are more people waiting than normal. The owner is great to talk to when you can catch him and the man that works there is always really helpful when I see him. I like that you can bring your own food. We sometimes bring a picnic or takeout and eat on the patio with no hassle. They have cheese, sausage & crackers for snacks and the warm bread with garlic herb butter....yum. (Kind of a hidden treasure). Go for the wine and atmosphere and stay for the sunset if you can.

My wife and I stopped in early afternoon on a Friday for a tasting and really enjoyed it. They've recently opened (September 2011) and seem really excited about growing their business as a member of the Smithville community. The tasting room is really nice. They have several tables set up inside (wine barrels with glass tops: classy and nicely decorated) as well as seating outside. There is also a cool little window from the tasting room into the room with the tanks where the wine is made. The entire room is well-thought-out--classy and welcoming. In the corner is a neat little gift shop area featuring mostly items from other local businesses. Just a great little facility. As for the wine tasting, it's free to taste up to 5 of their 10 wines, and $5 to taste all 10. We tried 5 each, and generally liked what we tasted. They have a cab-merlot blend (California grapes) that was pretty good, and we really liked their Norton, which is 77% Norton and 23% "other reds." It was definitely one of the better Nortons we've had in Missouri. We also really enjoyed their "Chococherry Kiss" dessert wine. It's not overwhelming with the chocolate, doesn't have that medicine taste chocolate wines can sometimes have, and has a nice tartness to balance out the sweetness. They sell wine by the bottle and by the glass to enjoy on the premises, and if you buy a bottle but don't finish it, they'll seal your bottle in a special wine doggy bag so that you're street legal for the drive home. It's free of charge and a nice touch. Allowed us to spend the extra $1 or 2 on a bottle (as opposed to 2 glasses) without feeling like we really had to pound down the wine. After we were done tasting, we bought a bottle of Norton to enjoy in the tasting room. They also sell little cheese plates and dessert plates to snack on while you drink. We tried a cheese plate, which was a nice selection of 6 or so gourmet cheeses that really were very good. They also provided crackers and pretzels. It was a perfect size for the two of us, but we were pretty hungry. I could see it as a light snack for 3-4 people. We also had a nice chat with one of the owners. We could tell she was really excited about the new business and also using it to help boost other wineries and small businesses in the area. Overall, we had a great time and can't wait to stop by again some lazy afternoon.

    Strawberry rhubarb!

By far my favorite winery of the half dozen I've visited so far! The location is b-e-a-utiful both inside and outside. The couple times we've visited, staff is extremely welcoming, knowledgable, and courteous about anything and everything. As far as the wine tasting, you can try any 5 for free or ALL for $5 plus you even get your own souvenir wine glass. The strawberry rhubarb will more than likely be my favorite wine for life--that's how good it truly is! After your tasting you can grab a bottle (or two!), some bread & oil, and a cheese plate and relax inside or by (my favorite!) the fire-pit outside. Everything is so green and peaceful outside. Ladoga Ridge is beyond worth the drive to Smithville. Didn't finish your bottle? Not a problem! Any staff member will be more than happy to seal your bottle up in a "road" friendly bag. Try to visit on a Friday. There's a group of women who are at Ladoga every Friday who are the funniest and friendliest group. They even have their own shelf with their wine glasses!

    Wine slushy

We went here for the wine tasting & it did not disappoint. They have a nice mix of several types of wine, I believe to suit everybody. For instance, My hubby is a wine lover & I only like sweet wines but we both had several to chose from. They also, have a breast cancer wine & as a person that just lost my sister to breast cancer it meant a lot to me to see that not only are you making good wine but you are thinking of others as well. Okay, so, the wine tasting included 13 wines (I think) & you received a wine glass to keep. I also tried the wine slushy, OMG was it good. I had them mix the two sweet wines together & I was in heaven. The place is small on the inside but very nicely decorated & even has a small area for purchasing gifts. You can purchase cheese, crackers & meats to pair with your wine but I chose not too. I visited on such a nice day that I sat outside in the back under the gazebo & enjoyed the beautiful view of the vineyard while listening to music that they play overhead. t is a very relaxing scenery.

My last visit came in 1972 when the property was used as a nursing home by The Odd Fellows fraternal organization, where my grandmother spent the last few years of her life. Prior to that it was an orphanage and for a short time a school - which my older siblings attended in the late 1950's. The winery has done a great job of preserving the history of the main building - one of four structures on the campus. Walking up the old wooden staircase to the second floor brought back instant memories of taking that same staircase to visit a woman that lived there. The nurses told us she claimed to be a relative of Frank and Jesse James, so 8 year old me convinced my mom for us to go visit her. I still recall her small and frail bedridden body holding my hand and thanking me for visiting her. My paternal grandmother lived in the adjacent building. It still sits vacant and deteriorating after decades of abandonment. It is the newest of the 4 structures on the campus having been built in 1955. Her solitary room was first floor left front of the building. I remember walking in and always talking to the nurses and aides at the station at the door. I remember taking presents of clothes and food on Sundays and holidays or just returning her laundry. I remember helping to decorate the room for the holidays. I remember the metal hand bell she used to summon assistance. I remember the beautiful large tree on the circle drive near her building that still stands today. The interior is vandalized and graffitied with no trespassing signs in place, and the windows she spent hours looking out of are now broken, blocked by rogue shrubs and a rusted and collapsing awning. The last time I peered in this window was sometime in 1972 to wave to her as we exited and let her know we'd be back soon. I highly encourage anyone to visit and support this winery and Inn. Check out the sitting rooms, look at the artifacts, documents and photos. Visit "George' the resident skeleton in his glass tomb... and if you listen carefully you might just hear my grandmother's small brass handbell.

Farm to table, right? How about farm to table AT a farm's table?…read more Green Dirt Farm offers up an array of choices from their artisanal cheeses and pair those with a number of other agricultural offerings from Missouri. Their sheep's cheese has that tangy, yet savory, bite to it and marries well with any number of wine varietals. Missouri, and Weston in particular, produces climates and days of sun similar to those of French wine regions, so the vines produce a wonderful fruit suitable for bottling. Plus, when you add in other items to your wine 'n cheez, like sausages or local honeys, it's a party all around. We love to get a charcuterie and a couple of drinks, be they wine or local beer products, and find a seat outside. If you aren't sure what you want, then the friendly staff is more than willing to offer suggestions or other service. The tables out front, on an autumn day in particular, give that rustic feel that underscores the farm to table experience. Handy intel: If you are outside and you do get something sweet (think jam or honey), then you are bound to attract friends. The buzzing kind. Green Dirt Farm also has a fabulous selection of sammiches as well. I love the 'Ruby Don't Go Bacon My Heart', a grilled delight of local cheeses and crumbled bacon, served with a strawberry jam. It's SUBLIME, and you may regret sharing. And don't miss their handmade ice cream, with flavors rotating seasonally and always worth the indulgence. Wine, locally made goods, and even locally raised meats like lamb are sold in the shop, and you just can't leave empty-handed. It's super easy to find if you're coming in from the east, like off the 435 loop. Parking is where you want to park, seating is easy outside and even some inside, and the value far outstrips the price points. We sat in the back bar/barrel room area (back bar was closed that day), but it was a great space for a larger group to be able to spread out and not take up all the space in the front bar area. The barrels gave the room a cozy feel! I'm a fan of wine, but a lot of our friends are not huge wine drinkers--so while they have a lot of great wine to taste (I'll get to that soon!), they also have local drafts and non alcoholic options for your friends/family members who aren't into wine or who don't drink. For their wines, when I went on a Saturday they had two wine flight options, which the staff said they change about every two weeks!
