Would have potential to rate higher but no one called nor contacted us for our scheduled virtual apartment tour. When we tried calling at the time of our apartment tour, we just got routed to AI who said they would make sure someone sends us the info. No one sent it. We called again and got AI again, asked to speak to a real person and it gave us an answering machine. Left a message and no one ever called back for our tour. So 1 star is generous considering no apartment tour or communication never occurred. read more

We recently moved with in the Westside apartment complex to one of the newly renovated apartments . What a great decision we knew we liked living here the last 10 years but one a one bedroom. The new apartment has a great open space layout with great lighting. The kitchen has wonderful cabinet space and plenty of cabinet space. Worth taking a look if considering moving. Do not rent here, especially B3. Elevator keeps breaking again and again and takes weeks to fix it. First it wasn't working from third floor and again it's not working from any floor. It seems to be getting broken every other week nowadays. This is just ridiculous, yesterday I didn't knew and brought a bunch of packages with me from the other building. I had a pull in my leg and had to carry everything three floors with the trolley. I don't even know how an actual disable person can live here, surely there has to be a law against this kind of conscious negligence week after week. Making a building design with one elevator and barely 2/3 stairs entry, not sure which genius made this choice but he/she surely hated humanity! Seems like people living here doesn't even seem to care anymore to complain about it and we became like problem makers for wanting a working elevator. This is on top of unbelievable loud construction starting early morning and including Saturdays! Our apartment walls vibrate and the constant bang can be heard no matter what you do including noise canceling headphones. This was done without any notice whatsoever and complaining to them is useless as they say yes to everything and not do anything. read more

WARNING: DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! And PLEASE don't write a review if you haven't lived here for at least a year for the sake of the current residents. Pay attention to recent reviews from actual tenants before signing a lease! We lived here for 3 years hoping for improvements until we couldn't stand it anymore. TLDR: Worst experience at Westside. The management is unreliable, incompetent, unprofessional, and often non-existent. The office is rarely open, and staff only care about impressing potential tenants (so if you thought the tour was amazing, think again). Simple requests become nightmares, and frustration with management is constant. The maintenance team is actually nice and friendly, but short-staffed & slow. Key Issues: Management: UNRESPONSIVE, IRRESPONSIBLE, UNPROFESSIONAL. The office is rarely open or they're always on a "lunch break". Emails go unanswered, and follow-ups are ignored. After a while, we stopped trying because it was so disappointing. Water Heater: Ours was defective for over 7 months. After many unanswered complaints to management and corporate, we contacted the BBB out of desperation. They finally responded but offered no real solution. After threatening to sue, they "compensated" us with a hilariously small credit--half a month's rent--which was nowhere near enough to cover the months of inconvenience. Even then, our shower only got hot when we ran the sink, wasting water. Package Theft: Packages are regularly stolen due to frequent package room break-ins. They have a poor "security system" and rarely scan deliveries, so you have to track your packages manually. One of my stolen packages was medication and they did nothing about it. Corporate Relations: Equity's "promise" of a response within 48 hours is a joke. I've submitted multiple inquiries with no response. Amenities: DO NOT be fooled by the "amenities". The hot tub is empty all the time because of leaking issues, and when it's not, there are homeless people bathing in it. One of the amenities I liked most about this place was the ample guest parking (there are tons of spots!). As of a couple months ago, my friends have had trouble finding parking there when they visit. We learned that the apartment company has been SELLING these spots on the Neighbor app to NON-RESIDENTS to make money and inconveniencing the residents' guests!!! Not to mention, that compromises the residents' security as there's more traffic down by our parking garage! They are so greedy and make irrational business decisions. Security Issues: My husband's car was broken into inside the gated parking after they started selling parking spots. Other residents also reported car break-ins and stolen catalytic converters. Gates and doors are often broken, and there's no security presence. Elevators: Constantly broken and slow. There's rarely any communication about repairs, despite residents paying higher rent for these "amenities." Rent Increases: Rent goes up every year, regardless of the market. They raised our rent by $200 even though an identical unit on the same floor was listed for less. SO GREEDY. Maintenance Delays: Requests are never fulfilled on time. We went weeks without AC and months without a functioning water heater or heater. We called the "emergency" hotline for a leaking pipe and they didn't show for 4 days which defeats the purpose of the hotline. Unsafe Neighborhood: In 3 years, we called the police four times for incidents like a car meet-up, property damage, fights in the hallway, and someone self-harming outside. Despite gates, the lack of security lets dangers inside. Move Out: They no-showed our move-out inspection despite confirming the appointment and gave an unprofessional excuse. After moving out, there was no communication and we had to manually check the portal to see if we'd get our deposit back. We got a laughable $54 from an $800 deposit, even though we left the apartment in pristine condition. This company was a headache from start to finish. I'll never recommend Westside or any Equity property to anyone. DO BETTER WESTSIDE. read more

Moving here has truly been terrible. sink, lights, dryer, heat, etc. all did not work upon move in. Additionally, they have no assigned parking and make the residents fight it out free-for-all style. Maintenance "allegedly" fixed these issues but now it's THANKSGIVING and my sink is flooded. My guests will have to spend all weekend with this disgusting pool of sewage. Truly, do not move here. Management has done nothing to compensate us for these inhumane living conditions. I don't even think it's legal to not have heat in the state of california and this is coming from an unconcerned 23 yr old male.... read more

This building is very poorly managed, security is a major issue, appliances and HVAC systems break without any help from management (Jose the maintenance lead is one of the only competent people here - not his fault). Both of our cars were broken into while living here and they didn't care what so ever. Other tenants had their doors spray painted and were threatened by homeless people that routinely break into the building. Your packages are not safe anywhere in the building, including the package room which was broken into several times while we lived here. To top it all off, whatever your rent is, add $500/Month in RUBS charges. They excessively pass off operating costs to tenants and won't explain how these charges are calculated or allocated. When it came to move out time, I also had random charges added that totaled exactly my deposit balance. This is one of the largest apartment owners in the US and they act like slumlords, retaliating against tenants by locking you out of the online rent portal and charging late fees. They don't take any accountability and if you call them out the response is "we have a huge legal team, good luck". Do not listen to the 5 star reviews, they encourage you to leave them when you move in, look how many tenants have come back to update their reviews after living here. read more

This review is for Jesse Ramirez on the emergency response team. I've had a ticket open for a refrigerator/freezer issue on their website for a few days with no response or acknowledgement at all. The food was starting to spoil so I called the emergency line and Jesse responded right away even when it wasn't during regular hours. He had a recent back injury, but still made the long drive from the Valley to address the issue. He coordinated with his manager to make sure he had the parts ready to go before he arrived. He was very professional and took the time to ensure everything was done right. read more

There are a few things that Equity Residential (the company that owns this complex) does very well. One is maintaining an extremely positive yelp rating. The fact that they're able to keep the average for this property over 3 stars is incredibly impressive. I'm eagerly awaiting the concerned and sympathetic reply this review elicits. If you want to know what it's like to live here, look at every one of the reviews. Cross off the ones that are for tours only. Then cross off the ones that say "this specific person helped me out in this one case and I'm so grateful". Those are generally the result of said specific person placing a follow up phone call to the resident saying something along the lines of "hey glad I could resolve this issue for you - btw I'm trying to win this contest at work this month, do you think you could leave me a positive review on yelp?" What you'll be left with is a relatively accurate description of what it's actually like to live here. TLDR - it's not good. To the extent you can avoid needing anything from management, the complex is decent. The neighbors are (mostly) very happy/friendly folks, and the area is nice. But the company that runs the complex has cut operating costs so severely, that even a small request that requires managements help at this point can become an enormous headache - the sort of headache that you'd expect paying ~3k/month for rent would allow you to avoid. I lived here for about 5 years, and during that time the staff presence went from 7 days/week, to 6, to 5, and most recently to 4. I'm sure when they figure out how to do it with fewer, they will. Their hours per day were also cut. We went from having a a 24/hour security line (at one point, even an on-site security guard), to having essentially no security. Don't take my word for it. Drive by some time and see how many doors are propped open, how many physically don't close, how many don't lock, etc. In the time I lived there, I've dealt with bed bugs, elevator breaking roughly once per month (one time while my wife & baby were stuck in it for ~2 hours), multiple bicycles stolen (one from a secure storage locker I was paying monthly for), chased a few would-be thieves off of my 2nd story balcony at 4am, stolen packages, community doors consistently not closing/locking/working. These things are more or less the norm. In the case of the elevator, I was sitting outside chatting with my wife thru the door as we waited 2 hours for the maintenance company to arrive. Every time another resident walked by, we'd all share a laugh about how useless the management is. It's a common thing the residents laugh and bond over I suppose. To that point, the elevator breaks so often that they just have an "elevator is broken" note permanently taped to the wall that they cover up when it's actually working. It's great, because it's been there for years and the residents write their own snarky comments on it in pen. You'd think they'd at least replace the note with a new one - but I guess it takes less work to just leave it there, so there it is. So getting back to navigating things - again, if you can manage it on your own you'll probably be fine. When the electronic garage gate remote was broken for a week, I was able to get out of my car and wheel the giant trash bin back and forth over the sensor to make it open on its own. That solution worked and removed the need to ask management when it would finally be fixed, so I was fine. When the storage locker room door broke for 3 weeks, I was not able to find another way in, and subsequently couldn't get to any of my stuff. That was extremely frustrating. Our heat never worked, but we didn't really need it so it was fine. The plumbing had problems once where dark brown water was coming out of the shower, and that required help from management so it was frustrating. The trick is to be lucky and only have to deal with things that you can handle without having to involve management. If you do decide to live here, make sure you get a renters insurance policy with a zero deductible. I say this because theft is a constant that you will have to deal with. I'd also recommend pepper spray, as there is no security presence on this property (the cameras haven't worked for years, and the doors are hit & miss). Anyway, this is not a great place to live. You've been warned. read more

Went on a tour there and when I asked to check another unit, the staff said they were actually gonna go out for lunch and come back in one hour. A bit odd since I was already there and checking another unit wouldn't take long. So I gave up and didn't go back another day. read more

Don't be fooled by the nice amenities here - the only thing keeping this place together is the hardworking maintenance staff. Cars are stolen and/or broken into in the garage on a regular basis - they claim not have security cameras in the garage. Bikes are stolen from the bike room with no evidence of tampering, so it's someone with a key - again, no cameras in the bike room. Someone's dog took a dump right at my front door - no cameras in the hallway. Once, the neighbors from across the hall lets their 2 dogs out, and they came INTO my unit and attacked my dog. They couldn't evict them bc of Covid so I asked to be let out of my lease. NOTHING for 4 MONTHS and they finally said, "they're leaving soon, so can you just wait it out?" 4 months of having to never be able to open my own front door to let light in (because none of the Northing facing units get any direct sunlight), and awkwardly trying to avoid the directly adjacent neighbors. The package room requires the delivery person to scan each individual package into their dumb system order for you to get a notification - which honestly, how do you expect that to happen? Otherwise, you have to go during offices hours to be let into the room or call the customer service number which takes days to respond. If you order a lot of stuff you will lose track of packages. If you live in Bld3 and order something big, you have to carry your package across the street, or bring your car. I have video footage of being stuck in between 2 security gates because one locks from the other side, and the other gate handle broke off in my hand. I called emergency maintenance, and learned that there's no one actually on site, and his suggestion was to "yell for help" (!?). After 10minutes, the neighbor had to come out and let me back in. I lived there for only 1 year and left 5 months ago, and I'm still upset about it. Update: Cool story, Jennifer. You guys are just about as helpful as ever, I see. read more

This apartment went downhill pretty quick. When I first moved in, everything broke and it was during the summer. The AC broke and it took so long for then to repair them so it was scorching hot in my unit. When the repair people came, the next day the AC broke again. For two weeks straight, I didn't have AC and it couldn't breathe in my own unit because it was soooo hot and the apartment management can't compensate for it, I have emails to prove them but they ask if I would rather move in to another unit that was more expensive??!!! Like what? They could only provide me with a fan that was barely gonna fix the situation during the summer in a one bedroom apt. The elevator is broken monthly which sucks for my mom who has problems with her legs and the security sucks because I've seen homeless people living in the emergency stairs. The curtain also broke down the moment i tried to put the curtains down and the shower curtain mounting broke down too. The sink was broken was one to many times and the new management guy Anthony is very rude. My call with him should be monitored and listened. This experience so far is honestly horrible and unacceptable for the price we're paying. read more

Do you like being ripped off and gaslit? Then Westside is the place for you!! We went months without air conditioning (including through a LA heatwave) and when we would call and beg for help we were often told "we've done everything we can possibly do." It took two months for them to finally agree to replace the unit. In the meantime, we had to run fans and window AC units, costing hundreds of dollars in electricity bills. When we reached out for a rent reduction for those, it was "investigated" for another four months and we were given a $200 rent reduction. The icing on the cake - when they went to install smart home thermostats in every unit, we were told it couldn't be installed because we didn't have heat - they broke that when fixing the AC. Also, they play with rent prices and do monthly leases for large companies (think tech company named after a fruit), so if you're looking for a yearly lease as a private individual or family, be prepared to be fully taken advantage of so you can finance a fun summer experience for a college intern. read more

If I can give this place less than a whole star, I would. It's a shame to say I felt that things were good when I first moved in, but after a year things took a turn for the very bad, especially compared with the rent they're charging you. New residents will be surprised to see all the issues current tenants are reporting when they log into the resident portal. To name a few: 1) Lack of security measures. Parking garage has no cameras. At least 3-4 incidents of car damage and theft could be found in the portal in the two years I lived here. Homeless people spotted sleeping in the stairwell and showering in the jacuzzi. Side doors constantly getting propped open by tissue paper or tapes. People have been calling the management to do something, but they say it's the residents letting people in. No improvements have been made. 2) Short of staff. The management office has three days off during a week. This has led to slow response to or sometimes negligence of maintenance requests. 3) Not addressing serious concerns regarding the building. Residents reported water leaking through the cement cracks in the garage ceiling, but no word from the management. Twice during my time here the building fire alarm went off, and fire fighters came, once around 1am or so, but after that no word from the office explaining what happened. 4) Severe termite infestation in some units. The management says that they cannot prevent bugs from coming into the building, so they cannot provide any compensation for residents' inconvenience, and a resident reported they didn't receive any professional help from the building for a month. 5) Max rent increase every year on top of everything, which is 10%. The sad truth is just by touring the building, it looks fine and it is at a killer location, so people sign the lease only to be disappointed afterwards. I'm posting this under an anonymous account to avoid retaliation. Hopefully the details I provided can help future apartment hunters make the right decision. read more

The apartment is well situated in a decent neighborhood but unfortunately for the amount of rent everyone is paying, it's not the safest, nor the cleanest apartment. Regularly peoples cars have gotten broken into in the parking garage and management has not installed cameras nor a robust security system. Despite being a non smoking building, people frequently smoke within the apartment complex. After a year of this, nothing has been done to effectively terminate the behavior despite a violation in the apartment contract. Homeless people bathe in the hot tub. These are things that can be remedied, it so far have not. read more

I've lived here only a few months but I am really thrilled with our new home. As a single mom with a toddler and a puppy, I feel very safe living here and have met some really nice people. As for the building, the apartments are bright and clean - the covered parking is ample and spacious. Overall, the facilities are beautiful (gym, pool. BBQs) and well maintained; it's impressive how clean everything is. The staff could not be nicer, more friendly or more accommodating - from the maintenance men to the ladies who work the front office. Building is right next to a McDonald's & Marie Calendars (dangerous!). Ralphs (with a Starbucks!), Staples and a Rite Aid directly across the street. Conveniently located right next to the 405. I just moved in and the application process was very quick and easy. The community manager, Anthony Vercher, was very helpful! He was easy to reach whenever I had a question and explained everything very well. When the microwave needed to be fixed he made sure to contact maintenance right away and I got a new microwave the next day! I'm looking forward to my stay here! read more
