The staff is always friendly, with everyone saying hello when I arrive and goodbye and thank you when I leave. The salon itself is very nice and very clean. My daughter's high school friend has a great low-light done and I asked here where and who. She raved about Westside Hair Studio and sent me Edie Martinez's contact info. I called, stopped by the shop and made an appointment for the next day. I looked like an old bleached out doggie (I'm 75!) But, after Eddie colored my entire head with a warm/soft brown, he then artistically wove blond highlights throughout my hair. I asked for more in the front and gradually less in the back. That's exactly what he did. And then the cut! WOW..from scraggy, dull long "shredded wheat" - Eddie left me with a healthy head of hair. A brand new "me" was born. I had my appointment today for a haircut, just a trim. Unfortunately I'm not happy with the results. I asked for an inch off and feather looking layers due I use hair extensions and I need to blend with my hair. I endup with rect harsh layers and looks choppy. I have been coming here a while and I couldn't recommend this salon any higher! Kate is amazing and is both highly talented and focused on the details. She suggests and executes what looks best, always. I'm someone who has anxiety and sitting in a chair w the cape around my neck at most places is enough for me to have a panic attack. I had a lovely haircut today with Eddie - he's an Artist and really cares. I went from a mid-length with no bangs to a bit shorter WITH bangs - a banged Lob. He was totally cool in listening to my preferences before he started to cut. I also had root coverage and it had been a long time since someone actually got the shade to match the rest of my hair right - and he got it perfectly. This isn't a "fancy schmancy Beverly Hills" salon (and I've been to some of those and didn't necessarily walk out thrilled) but it's comfortable and clean and I recommend Eddie for cut and color. WORST HAIRCUT EVER. MY HAIR STYLIST? KELLY. I came in knowing I wanted a pixie cut, with full bangs so I was already set on it and I knew what look I was going for. First, Kelly set me up to wash my hair. I have 3 NEW PIERCINGS, on my right ear. So yes, it's sensitive af. I told her about it so the first couple times she hit it, I was ok but NO, IT LASTED THE WHOLE APPOINTMENT. She combed through it, wrapped the towel on it, it was so annoying, it fucking HURT! But whatever, a little pain goes away anyway. Then the cut. I showed her a couple of pictures of how I wanted my hair. Then she said ok. She started cutting then when she came to my bangs, I told her I wanted it this long, then I pointed to my eyes. She tapped my shoulder with her comb and she said to TRUST HER. Said she felt it when I didn't. She assured me it'll look like the pictures. Exasperated, I shut up. Then she cut and cut and cut, then she blow-dried, then she flat ironed, then she put gel on my hair. ALL WITHOUT ASKING ME ANYTHING. She was doing whatever she wanted with my hair! The haircut I wanted, gone. She gave me wispy bangs, when I wanted full. Now I'm stuck with layers I didn't even ask for. The back where she used the clippers is uneven. And she made my sides look so poofy and styled it even poofier. When she finished she didn't even ask me what I thought but kept saying how I looked pretty and that it would look better with highlights. WOW. The whole thing cost me $60 and she mentioned she gave me $25 discount so the cut I hate originally costs me $85?!?!?! LOOOL GET OUTTA HERE!!! Smh. I'm so disappointed. What a rip off!!! my husband went to get a haircut to him and to our kid. 2 hours before their appointment he called to ask how much it will cost. He was told that a kid haircut is 20$, and a man haircut is 30$. After they finished their haircut, he was told to pay 35$ for the kid haircut, and 38$ for the man haircut. I went for a blow out and then told Kate that I wanted my ends very slightly trimmed. I used to have long hair to middle of my back and now I have a lob that I didn't want. This the reason I don't go get my hair cut often because the stylist usually doesn't listen. I have thick , wavy hair and this new haircut I didn't ask for is hard to style. On top of that, I think the reason she went ahead and cut my hair as opposed to just giving it a trim was because on top of the 47 dollars she charged me for the blowout she added 50 dollars for the haircut I did not want. I am not a hair client there. I have never seen anyone with my hair type in their salon so I don't know if they even work with my kind of hair (natural afro hair). I am writing due to the numerous times I have had interactions with them despite the fact that I am not one of their clients. Namely for whatever reason they always need to come say something irrelevant and unnecessary to me. They are in a strip mall that also has a very well-known donut place and a private mailbox facility. I have been a customer at that private mailbox facility for over 20 years so since well before this hair salon even opened there. Today's unnecessary and unwarranted interaction - it's a small strip mall with limited parking so it's not uncommon if you're just going to be brief to just park quickly outside of a space and run in and out. When I turned into the lot today I was behind another car he got the last space and so I just parked quickly to the side. Here comes an owner of Westside Hair Studio to tell me that I needed to move because I was blocking a car from getting out. She gestured towards the car that I had just entered the parking lot with us. So I said to her no not only is there no I'm trying to leave right now. But he just got here he and I followed each other into the parking lot. She immediately started to tried to laugh it off and say oh I'm sorry. Here's the thing - Again, this was not a first. Secondly, I'm grown and I'm a customer at one of the other businesses. They need to not say anything to me. I was not affecting them, their business, nor anyone else, and I'm not a child. read more

I thought to give this place a shot since I stayed at the hotel few blocks away and I made a mistake . First of all they won't follow instructions and you are probably limited to only a few different hairstyles . So whatever you request your hairstylist will try to make it as close as possible to one of those 10-12 generic styles she knows. Very quick cut without attention to details ... Even if it's a wrong haircut , hair should at least be even everywhere . And yeah, the lady was pretty aggressive with the wash , I felt like a potato , being washed , for a moment . 2 Stars because she didn't completely ruined it , unfortunately I've seen worse . This is fixable if nothing. Overall I think guys can find a better cut for $25 . This might work for older folks read more

This was the worst experience ever at a hair salon. My hair was simply butchered , perhaps it lasted 3 minutes...during that time I was stunned..not quite sure what was happening..or what to make of the entire experience while sitting in the chair. Firstly, I have wavy curly fine hair, it is not straight. I happened to have gone into the salon to shelter from the rain one evening. The two women hairdressers were so incredibly nice ,and we all chatted including Eddie. However, I mentioned at some point that I wanted to give my hair a trim , but I do not see photos of anyone with my hair type, so naturally , they do not perform hair styling for my hair type. Well!?......I was told oh yes we do your hair type and Eddie came over and looked at my hair. An appointment was made , and quite frankly Eddie was quite persistent and pursued me keeping an appointment with him. Eventually, I was able to keep an appointment, decided I wanted my hair shaped in a Bob style , but not short. With my hair type, it is normally cut while wet , with a pair of scissors. This was not case, some sort of tool that made an awful sound and felt like my curly hair was being butchered....and it was done in approximately 3 minutes. I kept saying do not make my hair too short, I would still like to have the option of putting it up. Well!???......I was totally ignored....both sides stick out like a clown's wig ....one side is shorter than the other side....bottom line my hair looks horrible. I actually paid 50.00 to have my hair mutilated....not styled or taken the time to cut and shape my hair with precision properly..like I have had in the past. After this dreadful, humiliating experience, I gather , that Eddie really was not used to my hair type....nor did he have a clue as how to cut , handle and style my hair. It was all lies and I strongly believe , he had an urge to experiment on my hair type. Therefore , all I can do with my slaughtered clown shaped haircut is to brush it back , for now. Hands down the worst haircut I have ever had. My hair was about shoulder length with VERY subtle layers, and bangs. I told the woman that all I wanted was a trim, bringing my hair length to just below my collar. I asked to clean up the layers slightly, nothing crazy. I said I liked my bangs the way they were (and mentioned that I liked how they were already blended with the rest of my hair on the sides). She went all "Edward Scissorhands" on me, snipping away - I couldn't really see what she was doing. She. Gave. Me. A. Mullet. I wish I was joking. It essentially looks like she put my hair half-up, half-down, and then just chopped the pony tail off of the half-up portion. A mushroom top. It is so short on the sides, and it goes so far back, that if I put the longer portion pack in a ponytail It looks like my hair is a shaggy men's haircut. After she blow dried it, I was so stunned I could barely speak. I quietly paid, walked out to my car, and promptly burst into tears. I couldn't bring myself to go out in public all weekend. I have to put my hair up and use a ton of bobby pins on the sides to even feel comfortable leaving my house... wearing it down? Impossible. I look like one of the freaking Beatles. That's not all... she was so violent when she washed my hair that I woke up the next morning with a painful goose egg on the back of my head. This lovely experience... $72 total. She made a show of punching numbers into the calculator and then subtracting, saying that she was "giving me a discount." Yeah, right. How a $40 haircut ended up at $72 total is beyond me. I got a consultation from a celebrity hair stylist, willing to pay hundreds of dollars to fix this mess before EVER setting foot in this place again, and even SHE told me that it can't be fixed. So now, I'm stuck with a mullet for the foreseeable future. I'll try to post photos - but trust me when I say that it is BAD. Not even just not what I asked for, or not my style... I don't think a single person would want to be caught dead looking like this. read more

I'm reading the reviews of this salon and I'm actually a little bit surprised. My experience was the complete opposite. Eddie and Selene listened to exactly what i wanted and the price was incredibly reasonable. This area alone charges $70 for just a cut and doesn't include shampoo/conditioning and styling. Westside Hair Studio charged me $60 for shampoo, conditioner, cut and styling. They even had a coloring book and crayons for my toddler who i had to bring with me. Thanks Eddie and Selene!! read more
