Granted you have to be in Tehachapi, or know where Tehachapi is, or be wanderIng around southeastern California, or have a sweet GPS. Given all the above transpiring, if you find yourself in the lucky position of needing to do a summer XC run with your sophomore weak-of-heart running daughter, just don't tell her about the steep uphill. You do get to run back down afterward anyway. Should you be able to trick your kids into the run or perhaps a hike, magnificent views await at the overlooks partway and all the way up. We're talking Twitter-background-wallpaper-quality shots (not that I would know). Should I wind up randomly or intentionally in T-town, I'll take another hike, provided I can talk the daughter into it ("no honey this isn't the one you remember, it's an easy hike":).

This is one of the best campgrounds in the area. The drive there is about 15 miles on bumpy dirt…read moreroad. (We could not find the shortcut route) that's 5 miles. So we followed some signs from Lake Hughes Road and ended up driving on an old road that had another (dirt) road steeply ascending up a grassy mountain. We later passed a nice place called Bear Campground but it was full. We also saw a sign for Atwood Meadows Campground and turned there. The road got too washed out, but we hiked down and it was also nearly full (apparently it was a jeep and ATV group using all these sites). We finally arrived around sunset and found the campground to be fairly quiet compared to the other camps. We got a site down a mountain slightly, under a gigantic pine tree. Some large oak trees were also dotted around the site. This area also has a water spigot but it was shut off (it's overgrown with weeds and has a lot of bees). Just bring your own water because the spigot may be off. We were originally staying for 2 nights but stayed for 4 nights and went back to Atwood meadow and did a hike to a gorge (15 miles on the dot - very overgrown in one section but we found a better way back that was much less overgrown)

Came camping this Saint Patrick's day weekend, first off make sure you have a high clearance…read morevehicle because I used my Honda Accord, a slightly newer model and it was insane getting up here ...so unless you have a jeep, a truck, or huge balls then don't try it.. other than that great, great place ! Only saw one other group of campers and they seemed to be day camping so we ended up being the only ones for a night and a day.. on Saturday like we saw only two more campers but that was all, pretty nice and quiet. There was lots of wind so secure your tents well! Lots of free firewood everywhere and the pacific crest trail is super near, word of advice try your hardest to get a hold of a map. Strongly recommend if you have an off road vehicle the road here will probably be loads of fun ! Just be very careful and safe on the way up ! I do not recommend RVs or a small car like I did because it was very scary, the roads are not pavement at all.. there more of a back road feel, very uneven, and can be very dangerous. Also the toilet isn't that bad, kind of smelly but it's a toilet..There is NO running water at all so bring extra ! Mostly clean, lots of wood chips, stumps, and logs , some left over items from a previous camper but it was an axe and rope, which ended up being useful so it was okay. Grab a adventure pass for the night at the 711 in Lake Hughes only $5 a night, not sure of where else to get get them honestly.. drive safe !

Check-in was nice & smooth, all the Staff was super friendly & helpful. I told them that I liked to photograph wildlife and they were kind enough to come knock on the door when some huge Bull Elk came in the area. Our Unit was clean, plenty of space, comfortable furniture, stocked with what we needed, and everything worked. We especially loved the Fireplace as it got cool on the rainy day. We loved the area, a nice park next door, within walking distance with a pond & a playground for kids. Small town (Stallion Springs) has a gas-station with a few eateries. Tehachapi is a bigger town (about 30 mins away). Make sure to stop at Visitor Center as it will give you plenty of ideas of things to do & where to eat. If you are looking for new & fancy with stuff like a pool or attached restaurants this is not the spot for you. If you want a great week of quiet & chances to see wildlife, enjoy a very relaxing area with plenty of friendly people then this is the place for you !!! We Loved Ir & was sad to leave, hope to be back !!!

She simply explained that she doesn't want to bear the burden, financial and otherwise, of caring for an older horse. Her rationale was that she's given them a good life and that their deaths are swift. If you're okay with this -- and I am obviously not -- her horses are lovely and the ride itself was good, not great. The trail is not particularly scenic and you must dodge trees nonstop.

Quail Run Ranch is a unique and one-of-a-kind ostrich farm that is basically out in the middle of…read morenowhere. You might not realize how huge and dangerous some of these birds really are, but they average about 9 feet to 12 feet tall and from 250 to 350 pounds. And, they can be quite deadly. During the mating season, the males will instantly try to attack you if you get close. They've got about 6 to 10 different ostriches in separate fenced off areas. If you pay a few dollars for a tour, they will walk you down and show you the different ostriches they have, as well as provide some pretty interesting ostrich facts. Their feet are crazy as they are the only two toed bird on earth. Looking at them it is easy to see how they are related to dinosaurs because it looks just like a dinosaur foot. You can also buy ostrich eggs if they have them available, which are equal to about 24 to 36 eggs. The flavor and consistency is actually pretty good as well and very similar to chicken eggs. They also sell honey and a bunch of other things. Also, in certain times of year, you can go and see the baby ostrich chicks that they raise. If you're feeling adventurous, this is definitely worth a trip, especially if you have kids. This has become a fun stop we started making on our annual visit to the California Poppy Preserve in Antelope Valley. I would call ahead and see what's going on with tours and everything else. Five stars.

So I was very excited to come across Olde Vineyard Charm today. When I walked in I was warmly greeted by the owners Bill and Kim. They told me they have been open since June 18, 2019. I can't believe I missed the opening of this store, !! Great gifts and home decor, I will definitely be doing my gift shopping here. Prices are very reasonable and they have quite a lot to choose from. If you are a wine drinker or need a gift for a wine drinker, definitely need to check out the cool items they have here . I saw really nice hand painted wine glasses, wine charms, cork pops, vacuum wine savor, and many more wine accessories. Really cute purses, and candles by Crossroads. Great kitchen items like oven mitts, dish covers, coffee cups, aprons, greeting cards, and so much more. Stop by and meet the owners they are extremely friendly and helpful.
