Our two dogs were new at this boarding thing. We had no idea how they would react. Steve was very reassuring. We were able to bring things like their beds and food. This was only a day care visit to see how it went. Our anxious dog did okay (medicine helped, I'm sure) and the other guy was happy as could be. We will be back for a couple more day visits. This place is terrible. I paid a lot to board my dog there for 8 days. When I picked him up he was sick and injured. The hair has never grown back on his neck where he was injured and they had no explanation for why he had the injury where his collar was. He was very timid for a long time afterwards so I feel like they were abusive to him. He is a gentle dog and not a barker. My friend had the same problem with her dog being injured there too. I left my completely healthy cat there for 6 days. They didn't tell me she quit eating and drinking. The vet said she was completely dehydrated, when they put her on an iv the fluid went to her chest. I just put her down. Before we brought her there she had an exam and updated vaccines. The vet faxed them to county air. I then called them to make sure they got them. They verified. Then when I got there they said they never got them. I should have walked away. But i had the copy from the vet I was going to crescent city with my grandson and other family so I didn't have any other options. She was only 9. RIP Kitty read more

Took my dog there once. Never again. He went in excited to be there and came home traumatized. I was told all bedding would be washed and my dog would be bathed. I was asked to give notice when I would pick up and did so, yet my dog's bed was soaked in urine, and my dog smelled like a toilet. He was a wreck when I picked him up. Not the happy pup I dropped off. He spent the ride home shaking and wouldn't even look at me. It took days for him to get past it. I couldn't help thinking his bed was like that from the first night. Not totally sure how we feel... We just picked up our seven month golden today after a three night stay. Our dog is completely potty trained, and she's never urinated in her crate or pen. However, when we picked her up today the staff stated, "she tinkled on her toy." Also, when we got home we realized her bedding we brought was also covered in pee. For our dog to pee on her toy & bedding means she wasn't given enough attention to ensure a bathroom schedule was followed. Lastly, there were A LOT of dogs at the facility when we dropped off our girl, and seemingly only one employee responsible for doggie care. Maybe they were short handed, but nonetheless, our dog peed herself for the first time while being under the care of Country Aire.... read more

We toured the facility. Read the reviews. Did our homework. Dropped off our two healthy dogs who were to board together. Brought food with instructions on how to feed. (Please wait so Sadie eats her food.) Notes were taken at drop off. We left feeling ok with leaving our girls for 5 days. We boarded so they wouldn't be alone while I was out of town and my husband worked. No photos or updates on our dogs the entire time they were there. My husband was available if there were any problems. He told her at intake to call because he worked in town. On day 5 our daughter picked up our dogs. They tell her Sadie our Weimaraner, didn't eat. Really? No concern for her health? No phone calls to my husband who could come pick her up? She could barely walk. She was taken to the vet. She was severely dehydrated And malnourished. She was given fluids. After tests, We found out she had cancer. She had shown no signs of illness prior to boarding. This facility didn't cause her cancer, but they let her suffer alone instead of calling us. We would have picked her up. We are just heartbroken about the way they treated our dog. This is animal abuse. expenses of $390 for 5 days at this place and over $1200 at vet to try to save her life. Please take your dog elsewhere. She crossed the rainbow bridge on Nov 3. 3 days after she was picked up. I didn't make it home in time to say goodbye. read more

My dog loves them :) he gets super excited and starts whining to be let out when we pull up, runs inside to the lobby and starts saying hi to all the staff He likes this place better than our old dog boarding facility, so they'll always get our business as long as we're in Redding :) read more

Do not take your pet to this location - We recently boarded our fully vaccinated dog for five days here within two day after picking her up she seemed to be on her death bed, after paying $160 for boarding fees we encountered over $500 in a vet bill for trouble breathing coughing up green mucus and running out of her noise dehydrated along with two cuts on her leg. Informing the kennel of the situation they continue to state the dog was well taken care of, if that where the case we would not have had to visit the vet after boarding our pet most people care for their pets as family avoid this kennel if you want to keep your pet healthy and damage free. read more

My Husband and I came to Redding to remodel my Mom's kitchen... And other projects she found. We were unable to keep out 2 Bouviers at Mom's house. We were referred to Country Aire Pet Resort by Mom's neighbor. The Staff was wonderful. Steve, the owner, suggested the vet in town to update the dogs shot records. We were concerned about out male, Ace. He was not good around strangers. Steve's staff put us at ease with their level of training and dealing with anti-social dogs. Within a week, both dogs were eating out of the girl handler's hands.. Alex explained the dogs are rotated every two hours from their kennels to the outdoor dog run areas. Ace and Sitka were put in side by side kennels (Ace tends to eat Sitka's meals if unsupervised). They were put in the dog play areas together. Ace has lost weight!!! This is great!!! Ace and Sitka both love the staff, which says alot for what goes on when you are not there. We were able to visit and play with the dogs during business hours any day of the week!! Ace has gotten more socialization than any amount of training I have been able to give him so far. I am sooo happy!! And so is Ace, of course!! We are picking them up today and taking them home. Passing through Redding, on my way to Burney, I needed last minute accommodations for my pup. Called Country Aire in the morning, they gave me the OK, and off we went! Driving from SF, we made it to Country Aire just in time, and they welcomed Frank with open arms. Frank doesn't DO group play, but not to fear! Country Aire assured me, they have individual outdoor pens for the pups to stretch their legs. Each individual kennel space is large and roomy enough for each dog, or doggy siblings if you'd like them to board together. They also offer a plethora of "add-ons" for those that like to spoil their four-legged children, as well as grooming services. Long story short, I was WILDLY impressed with Country Aire's facility and hospitality. I know Frank can be quite a handful, but I know he was in good hands, and will be sure to keep this place in mind the next time I head North for family time. read more

Our dog, Niko, LOVES Country Aire Pet Resort! He is a husky/shepherd mix and is very "alpha male" which is why we have trouble leaving him with just anyone when it comes to other animals being around. But through this facility and program, Niko has been able to engage in a positive environment and displays proper feedback now when going to a dog park. Before his attendance at this pet resort, we wouldn't dare take him off leash. Now, after several boarding attendances, Niko is a completely changed dog. He doesn't growl or bark at other dogs anymore, he doesn't try to dominate them anymore- it's as if he was properly trained to understand and comprehend that other dogs are companions and not foes through this program. So when we take Niko, it's not just a kennel as one would say but instead a behavioral encourager- for our dog at least. We don't bring any of his toys or his bed, this way he is encouraged to not be so territorial around peers. We do bring his food of course, and opt in for the gravy they provide that he seems to enjoy. When we pick him up, he smells clean and his nails get clipped, as grooming is one of the features they offer when notified in advance. Niko is SO HAPPY when we see him, and he has made friends!! He never used to do that! Likewise, the owner is polite and his workers are just as personable as well. We highly recommend this place to everyone we talk to who may be seeking out pet services for their cats and dogs! read more

If I could leave less than one star I would. I wouldn't recommend CAPR to anyone. My family has used CAPR in the past with no issues. The lead up to our trip this month was good. We had positive conversations with CAPR. The staff seemed willing to accommodate our wishes. We told them specifically about how we feed our dogs and the need for one of our dogs to only eat the food we provide because he has a sensitive stomach. The staff seemed to understand our request. Fdays into our seven day trip to HI, we get a call from my wife's mother that CAPR called and the dogs are out of food and the dog who gets sick when fed other food is now vomiting. We provided CAPR with 14 individually measured and labeled bags of food. That is one bag of food per day. It turns out one of the staff decided the dogs were not being fed enough so they started feeding the dogs one bag per feeding when we provided ONE BAG PER DAY. When they ran out of our food they fed the dogs whatever food CAPR has causing the vomiting. Also, one of the dogs has developed a cough since being out there. We will never board another pet at CAPR and would like to thank them for adding unnecessary stress to our vacation. Worst pet related decision we have ever made. Update - so we just got done at the vet having them diagnose the coughing dogs cough. Big surprise he has kennel cough and on top of that he lost 3 to 4 pounds over the week he was at CAPR. How does a dog that weighs 30 pounds lose one tenth of his body weight if he is being fed twice the amount of food he normally gets? At this point I am just glad our dogs survived the week at CAPR. read more

They do not tell people. That staff is only there until noon on Sundays. They do double feeding. They feed all the dogs their morning meal and evening meal at 9 am on Sunday mornings. They leave at noon and no one is back until 7am on Monday mornings. The night before their check out date they take their bedding and spray it with cleaner and hang it outside. If it fits in the washer they machine wash their bedding so to get the urine smell out of it. The owner has employees turn off the ACs at 5 when they close even if it is 100 degrees out. And if there is a fire. We were told we could leave but the animals stay because we can not remove that many animals at one time. His downstairs kennels are falling apart and they have swamp coolers and one can not be turned on or it will catch on fire. He does the bare minimum to that place. And how he treats his employees is down right awful. If you use his kennel food and he thinks it is to much food he will cut back on how much is given in each feeding. One of the girls left a dog outside in an 105 heat and I asked her has that dog been outside since it checked in. She said omg and ran outside. 30 minutes! They are awful there! read more

My first time taking my dog to this business was my last. It was during Thanksgiving week of 2012. I dropped off my 80 pound female Amstaff...when I picked her up 2 nights and 3 days later I was appalled. She was covered in feces and urine, and could not bark because her voice was hoarse. She only barks when she has been cooped up without going on walks. I had originally been scheduled for 3 nights and 4 days, so they did not expect me this early. A new girl led me back to see my dog, because the other young girls in charge of checking out and charging me weren't available. My dog was in a cage wasn't big enough for her, especially since they took her on no walks, at least give her a kennel big enough for her to really move around. The room was loud, and stinky, room, with not so good ventilation, with dogs barking, whining and crying echoing so loudly in the room, you can't even talk or hear anything. The concrete floor was wet with urine and smeared with feces...my dog had diarrhea dried and caked on her behind and legs...the whole time and they didn't clean it...her bed that I brought, along with a pillow and my blanket was not in the cage with her. They accidentally switched her bed with another, which they brought out to me soaking wet and still smelling of feces and urine. My dog hates going to the bathroom were she sleeps so I know they didn't let her out of the kennel or play with her in some open area like they advertised. I will never go back, and later learned from other more experienced dog trainers, professionals and private dog sitters that this place just does not take care of your dog well. The staff is nice and convincing, pretty gals working there with matching outfits, in a clean nice reception area. But the place where they take your dog to stay looks like the outside kennels at Haven Humane out on Eastside road in Anderson, CA--except they aren't as nice. My dog did not get to walk, run or play, she was left alone to bark herself hoarse, poop herself and then they let it dry. This business didn't even offer to compensate me for her terrible stay. It took a few days for my dog to recover but she was fine. Maybe I'm being too harsh here, and Thanksgiving was really busy for them. However, my dog did not get walked as advertised, not even once...they girls that work there totally confessed to that! read more

My experience with Country Aire was over the phone. I was referred to them by my groomers for my 2 dogs. My call was promptly answered by the owner. I asked for overnight boarding prices and he provided it based on my dogs weight. OK, not bad. I asked if I could pick up on Sunday and he said, $75.00 per pet for Sunday pick up, if I'm in town. He then asked, you want to know why it's $75.00, in a condescending tone? I already knew the answer, I responded because it's Sunday. He went on, I'm the owner and it's my day off and I have to come on my day off. IF I'm in town, again talking down to me. I followed up with, so $150 for the pleasure of picking up my dogs on Sunday. Yeah, or you can pick them up on Monday, he said. I thanked him and hung up thinking, yeah, I don't think so. I wouldn't want to inconvenience you. The owner sets the tone for the business and its employees and that's how you talk to potential clients?! How are you going to treat my dogs? I then hopped onto Yelp still in search of a kennel and ran across the reviews for Country Aire. After talking to the owner I can believe the bad reviews. Run, Forest, Run. read more

We had a special needs boxer, that was an indoor dog. He was all white with very little fur. No fleas were present, nor did he have ear mites. 1. We were told he could potty in kennel, we told them he would not, that he would have to be walked outside on 'dirt.' He will not go on concrete. 2. We were shown the kennels. When we told them he couldn't have a dog next to him because he would pick a fight through the fencing, they said no problem. 3. We planned to leave him for 15 days, but we made arrangements for my father to pick him up if my father got lonely without him. 4. On the 3rd day my father picked him up. They claimed they had walked him, but when my father got him home, he had to go poop 7 separate times. Then he noticed the ears... They were completely filled and black with earmites. When my father took him to the vet the same day, not only did he have earmites, but he had damage to his face where he had clearly fought with another dog. 5. My father called Country Air and they claimed that he had to have been brought in with the mites... WTF???? They also said that he had ample time to potty 'in the kennel.' This after they said he would be taken out for walks alone.... read more

I had to board my poor doggy, Luke while I was visiting my mom in Redding/moving to Sacramento. I searched and searched, and finally found this place. They are located pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, but I kind of like that. When I brought Luke, the owner let me walk around the place and examine the grounds. He showed me the different boarding areas, the play area, the walking area, etc. He introduced me to staff, and made sure I felt comfortable leaving Luke. When I tried to use my card, it declined. After calling the bank, there were some problems that they were working on. They said it would take at least a day to sort out. The owner understood, and let me leave Luke without paying up front. He said I could call when everything was sorted out and give the card number over the phone, which I ended up doing. When I eventually picked Luke up, he was his same old happy self. He even made some new friends. I would definitely recommend this place for your wee ones. read more

We have been taking our large pup Chewbacca to Steve and his wonderful staff for many years. As Chewy ages it becomes more and more difficult to leave him home. I am even more confident of the amazing care Country Aire provides for our pet. In his younger days they played ball with Chewy daily to give him exercise and excitement. Now as ball play is not something he can do they hang out with him and give him all the pets he wants. Chewbacca comes home happy, and sleepy, lol!! My experience with Country Aire left me thinking there must be a better place in Redding, where the customer comes first and is appreciated. The facility itself seems ok, but their drop off/pick up policy is obviously designed to maximize profit regardless how much it inconveniences the customer. We left for a short trip to SoCal on Sunday 7-22-18, but due to Country Aire's no Sunday drop off policy, we had to leave our 2 dogs one day earlier, on Saturday 7-21-18. ($52 per day) We made it back to Redding on Wednesday prior to 4 p.m. and picked up our 2 dogs. The bill was $265.00. The explanation was as follows: You must get here before noon or you will be charged for another day. We don't alow Sunday drop offs(or pick ups) or after business hours any day because there is no office staff available to complete the paperwork. Yes there are "Kennel Staff" here after hours, but apparently there is no cross training that would enable the employees to muli-task. This "task" seems quite simple, easily performed by any competent teenager. This is a policy that holds the customer and your dog hostage for no other reason than to make money. This obvious, profit driven business model will prevent me from coming back to Country Aire. While picking up my 2 dogs, the guy who went to retreive them somehow released them both into the lobby area without leashes, accidently. Luckily no other dogs were present and they were quickly contained. But, it makes me wonder how secure they were when they were under their control? . read more

Take a tour. I took a tour of this place in early 2015 after reading a couple of bad reviews. I found the staff to be very welcoming, and willing to set aside time for me from a busy schedule. I did not tell them I was coming, and I did not tell them I was planning to make an appointment. They were open and able to answer my questions with out hesitation, and the most impressive part, they remembered my dog from November and were able to recall her stay. During the tour, other staff was cleaning the kennels, and from what I saw, not one of the kennels was unsanitary, which is very impressive for a kennel. The larger dogs have a larger, indoor kennel in the back, where they can have there own space and still be next to one another as a pack. Book in advance, especially around holidays. You can drop off your animals earlier than 9 am, and it will cost more money. $20 for 7 am and $10 for 8 am, and you need to book in advance. I have greatly enjoyed this place, thus far. The first time I took my dog, a lab, was in November 2014 while leaving for thanksgiving for about 5 days. When she came back to us, she was happy, exhausted from all the play and very clean. It was a great welcome home. We were able to unwind from our trip while she napped in piece. We obtained a second dog over the holidays and left them both there for a 12 stay, May 2015, and came home to 2 wonderfully happy, healthy dogs. I am plan to continue using this place as I need to board and groom my dogs. read more

Earned My Trust for My Baby!!!! Our loving Hunter has MAJOR Anxiety. In anticipation of the 4th, I called our vet, made reservations & requested meds. After careful consideration, Hunter's vet called me, and suggested that I not bring him to the vet hospital, but given his INTENSE anxiety, Dr. H suggested Country-Aire Pet Resort, by name!. After reading some mixed Yelp reviews, I took to Facebook and asked MY friends what they know & feel and are willing to share about CAPR. SO MANY local friends take their little furry loves ones there and speak VERY highly of the facility, the owner & the staff. So there it was - I trust the words of people I KNOW. I called and was offered a site visit, pretty much when it worked for me!. For balance I took my 8 year old (who lives for her pup), her friend and a Mama Friend. The moment I walked in my worries went away - We ALL felt welcome - and hoped Hunter would, too. Steve suggested that we bring Hunter by for a mid-day visit, just to get a feel. And, knowing our pup, meet him once and he loves you - it's the SECOND meeting that seals the deal. He spent a nice 5 hours there for a measly $8 - when I went to pick him, he was EXHAUSTED - he had had SO much fun, in those short hours, I just knew this was good. The next weekend (the week before the 4th) we had a need for overnight Hunter care. We made reservations and all I can say is when I got to my boy - he smiled from ear to ear - and rested like a babe for the next day...... TRUTH TEST - Dog's DON'T LIE: After a one night stay - what was his reaction going to be when we returned..... if there was ANY hesitation I was walking right out and taking my baby home and canceling all our plans for the 4th. Well let-me-tell-you THIS: That dog could NOT get out of my van fast enough - he PULLED me to the door of Country-Aire and never looked back. Hunter was greeted BY NAME, and with loving hugs. I kid you not - he was leaving me in the dust to go play with his new friends..... read more

This place is a terrible place to take your pets. I don't know where to begin because every aspect of this place is negative. The owner Steve Coburn not only doesn't care about the well being of your pets but takes no responsibility for the things that go on at his business. His whole approach is to trick the customer into thinking that this is a nice facility with well trained staff but that couldn't be further from the truth. When you call him out on his shady business practices he gets mad and defensive. He try's to justify why something negative happened or will defer all blame onto his staff saying stuff like " I wasn't here this weekend" or "haven't you ever had employees that didn't do what they were supposed to."He even would put his staff on the spot to lie to me about the inner workings I called him out on. My dog stayed for three days, which was enough to traumatize her because she's from a loving family who values animals and is not mistreated. For starters I left my dog with treats and new toys to be given to her instead they were returned upon pick- up, unused still in the bag, with not one treat given. I was told by Steve Coburn that they were put on top of her cage and left there the entire time. This made me question more of the basic things that were supposed to be done such as did you give my dog her bed I left her with? Did you give my dog food and water? Did you let her out to go to the bathroom? I did a walk through of the back part of the facility where the large dogs are kept only to find an outdated barn like building that with no a/c that must get extremely hot during the day because fans and a swamp cooler do not work in 100+ degree weather especially in a barn with no ventilation. I walked to find a pile of dog beds stacked up in the middle of the building, but no dogs had their beds, which leads me to believe they don't give your dog their bed in hopes to return it to the customer clean and give the false impression that so is their facility. When I verbalized this to Steve he pointed to a dog and said " look that dogs got a blanket" which was one out of a dozen dogs. I walked the entire back kennels which is basically a musty barn with not enough ventilation for a climate that reaches 110 degrees. I also find at the very back portion of this structure that he's storing cans of paints and other toxic chemicals in the same hot barn he keeps the dogs only a few stalls from the dogs. I questioned him about feeding my dog because of everything I encountered and he assured me my dog was fed by shoving a piece of paper in my face saying she was fed 8 times when she had only been there for 7 meal times. The lies and rationalization for treating my dog poorly with poor service and lack of organization just kept coming the more problems I found. My dog lets me know when she has to go to the bathroom by lightly scratching the door to go outside, my dogs nails and paws came back spilt and in such bad shape it leads me to believe she was not let out to use the bathroom. My dog is considered a part of the family and is treated like such so if you love and care for your pet this is not the place to take them for any amount of time. Steve Coburn is a greasy businessman that does not care about your pets well being and doesn't train his staff properly. The outside exercise cages have no shade, nothing but dead grass. Anything you point out that is negative or wrong will make him get upset, defensive, and try to turn it on you. Steve Coburn gave me all my money back for the stay in hopes I wouldn't leave a negative review but he doesn't understand it's not about the money it's about doing what's right and taking good care of another persons pet like you say you will. I can only hope this review will be a deterrent for people thinking about using Country Aire as an option, for those who value their pets should know the truth about where they take their animals. Lastly this should be a lesson for Steve Coburn to understand that shady business practices when it comes to a persons pet will not be overlooked or tolerated. I suggest you strive to improve your place of business instead of getting angry at me for calling you out on the things you need to work on. Thanks read more

we needed to board our 'Sheepadoodle' for 10 days when we traveled out of state by train...it was very difficult to even consider leaving 'Tesla' but went and toured Country Aire a week or more before our planned trip..... being very impressed with the cleanliness and caring staff, it was a no brainer. We especially appreciated the play yard and interaction with other dogs. One of the employees (thank you again, Amy) even sent us video clips of our girl playing in the yard with several other dogs. We don't have cause to board our dog often, but if/when we do, this is where she will be.... Thank you Steve, entire staff and Amy for your above and beyond. read more

I left my two huskies here for Memorial day weekend. I received a tour and met the girls who would be taking care of them before I left. Everything was professional and friendly. My dogs were happy as can be when I went in to pick them up. They were given enough exercise that they were not stir crazy when I got them home. The employees even told me about some of the dogs' cute antics while they were there. I feel completely comfortable leaving my fur kids there. In fact I'm about to call and make another reservation. We left our Great Dane over the 4th of July week. This is our 3rd or 4th time. Upon arrival, he leaped out of the car and ran to the front door bouncing around with excitement. My husband and our dog were greeted by name! We came back a week later to one happy dog! He's cleaner than when we left him too. It's been two days now and our Dane is still sleeping it off. On previous stays, our little dog has stayed as well. The owner has always accommodated and allowed our pug to stay in the big dog section so she could be close to her buddy. Country Aire, Steve and his employees have earned trust and respect from myself and my husband. We feel comfortable leaving our two Chihuahuas Chloe and Harlowe in their care when we leave town for a day or even a week. It would be nice if a daily walk was included in the cost of boarding but I'm happy I don't have to be concerned about my "chicadoodles" welfare and safety when we are on the road. Country Aire has been great! I started taking my two pitbulls, Ella and Wizard, there last year for daycare and they've always left tired! The play yards are pretty big and prices are quite reasonable. When I first started bringing them there, Ella had just had surgery on her knee, had 12 weeks of recovery ahead of her and I was very worried about her reinjuring herself, but those fears quickly faded the more times I dropped her off. I felt like the staff were very attentive to her medical needs and I appreciate them putting up with me. read more

"So three perfectly fine visits and one where the beds went home stinky? Why no reviews on the first three visits and only after the fourth? Why no phone call to discuss if you've had three perfectly fine, pleasant experiences? And abuse??? are you serious Steve... I think you need to back off the "Big Gulps" as the sugar is seriouly affecting your reasoning process" Well Steve C., I did ask your employees and they stated all was A-OK. Something did happen. Both dogs behaviors after boarding was somewhat fearful and both were really clingy. It was more than a few days before they were back to normal. Beds were freshly washed before this trip and both were more than damp and rank for the return home. So either employees were forgetful in potty breaks or some type of activity caused both to urinate all over the beds. This is almost always a response to fear. Considering that both had behavioral issues, the later is more likely. Regardless of cause, I would think that your employees should have noticed the stench and washed the bedding. If it looks like abuse, smells like abuse, it's most likely abuse and yes, I'm serious Steve. What is even more troubling is your response to my review. A better approach would have been an apology, that you would look into the matter, that maybe protocols were not followed, that maybe I should not be blamed for incident(s) that happened while my dogs were under your care would have been just a little better.
