Winter has been harsh on my boots but not for long! My precious leather Dolce platform high-heeled boots need to be re-heeled: These are my all-time favorite shoes- they are sexy, they are four and a half inches in the super-slim heel, they are comfortable and I walk like a super-tall supermodel in them (even if I am merely over five feet in stature). The heel was torn off the right, I might have cried. They may need a new insole. They definitely look like they have taken a harsh beating... scratches, scrapes, salt stains... Don't get me started on my suede lace-up knee-high boots- the sole has completely become disconnected from the heel of the boot itself and they need to be re-glued and re-stitched by a pro for waaaay less than the cost of new boots. Not that I want new boots- these are my favorites too and no, can't live without them. A polish, new heel, re-glued sole for a mere $38 in cash (just cash, no cards) will save them from the polar vortex shoe massacre. Conveniently, this is a hop, skip and a jump from my workplace. Also conveniently, they can do same-freaking-day-repair... which I kinda need as I have been putting this off for longer (letting my shoes live under my desk) than is healthy for my feet. After 6 years of wear, I brought in my favorite leather boots, one of the best pairs of shoes I own ($450 at time of purchase). After my encounter here, they are 7 shades lighter than the nice glossy dark brown color they were when I bought them. So unless you want to walk out with completely different looking shoes, don't come here. To be fair, he re-soled them and fixed the worn-down heels, which is great. But he also said he "de-salted" and "cleaned" them, which means the chemical that was used completely destroyed the finish and the texture. Trying to see if I can remedy this mess with some shoe polish and paste wax but I don't have high hopes. All this cost $85, and he made no effort to help the situation when he saw how clearly upset I was at the time of pick up. Disappointed is an understatement. read more

Been here a few times to repair my boots, and the man who works the counter is nice, quick, and professional. Wish he took credit cards (cash only) and his prices are okay. He prefers the cash up front, or at least a small payment which I assume is in response to people leaving their items for too long, but I always seem to forget $$, and let's be honest, I'd rather see the final product before paying! They fixed my Walter Steiger black patent and red (irreplaceable) cone heels TWICE!!! ANd, got out the salt stains from an X-mas party gone wrong....... Seriously, they are serious about shoe repair. I had never been to a shoe/handbag repair shop prior to this experience so I had no idea about cost for labor or how long the service would take. The long strap broke on my Alexander Wang bag, so I stopped in to get a rough idea of how much it would cost. The guy told me it would cost $100. I couldn't tell if he was serious. At that cost, I might as well just sell the bag on eBay. He also said "I know this is an expensive bag..." Perhaps he was kidding because he quickly said $15 after he saw the look on my face. For $15, it was a no-brainer! He said it would be ready in 24 hours too! A couple days later I went in to pick up my bag. He originally said the stitching might be visible on the inside, but he actually opened the seam so you couldn't even see that work had been done! He did a great job! When I went to pay he told me $20, and I quickly reminded him he had said $15. This place does a great job, and I would definitely go back. I'm just not sure if the guy was a jokester, or if he was trying to see if he could get a higher price out of me. read more

Do not use this place if you value honesty. I took my shoes in with shoe trees in them for a simple buckle replacement. While I was abbot shocked by the $50 price tag for a buckle replacement I proceeded to leave my shoes for repair. They were returned sans shoe trees. I called and was told to come back to pick up the trees but, upon return, was then told that he never had shoe trees and was essentially shoo'ed out of the store (pun intended) and accused of lying. Any other decent, customer service-focused company would have offered to replace the shoe trees and apologized for the inconvenience. Not this guy, completely rude and disinterested in my business/could have cared less. I have many shoes and could've been a repeat customer but instead I'm taking the time to discourage others from using this establishment via Yelp. All over a $10 item. They saved a pair of cherished cowboy boots that had seen a lot of love. The sole (which had already been re-soled twice) was cracking and peeling off, the paint on the leather was peeling and dry. The master cobblers at Westside Shoe Hospital completely revived my boots and now they look as new as the day I got them 6 years ago, and for a very reasonable price - $55 for the pair. I also took in a pair of heels to have a heel cap put on. It was done in under 15 minutes and it only set me back a measly $3! I would recommend that anyone take any shoe with any issue to this place, they'll fix it fast, affordably, an with excellent quality. read more

I think the guy makes them up on the spot based on what he thinks you'll pay. $25 to get the salt stains polished or of a pair of shoes. $75 to resole a pair of boots. No prices posted so it's tough to know what to compare it to. No real complaints with the work, but it's not like my shoes were like new again either. My shoes story at the shoe repair shop: This was a few weeks ago. I took my very comfortable shoes to this Shoe Hospital to be repaired because my feet feel so comfortable in them; and most importantly, I wanted to take them with me to my dusty country, Mali (Bamako city). What I didn't realized is that, the shoe repair guy has a disease called (Trump Syndrome). He insisted that I pay the repair fees right the way. The shoes repair guy: "You have to pay at the drop off". Kadi "Oh yeah? I left my purse in my car in front of the shop". I ran out, grabbed it, came back in, gave him all of my dollar bills, but I didn't have enough money. The shoe repair guy "That's all you have?" Kadi "I have some changes". He wasn't satisfied until I emptied my change holder on his counter top, and I gave him all of my quarters, dimes cents. "Are you picking up your shoes today?" He asked. As if I was abandoning my very comfortable shoes at his mercy :( "No I will pick them up tomorrow before or after work" I said. I decided to stop at the shop the next morning with the rest of the money when I met another customer at his shop. The customer was dropping his shoes off to be repaired as well. The customer asked the repair guy whether he has to pay him in advance and he actually reached to his packet to pay for the repair. But guess what people???? The repair guy told him this, "No, you are fine, you can pay me when you pick up your shoes". Honestly?????. I couldn't hold it! I said, "Oh!!!!"You!!!! Racist!!!!". I confronted him and told him that I was at his shop the day before and that he insisted that I pay beforehand. "What is the difference between I and the guy who just left? the color of our skin" What else could he have said to me other than this "well next time, you wouldn't have to pay at the drop off" The white guy is the manager of the building". As if there were going to be a next time for me again at this particular (Shoe Hospital). "Who cares?" I said. "You must treat customers the same" Anyhow, my shoes and myself felt so very comfy roaming the dusty city of the dusty streets in Bamako, where people weren't paying attention to the color of my skin. Completely ruined a pair of Pumas. I requested a simple cleaning and not only did he return them just dirty as they were before but he actually added a chemical to the suede parts that made it rough to the touch. When I pointed out that they weren't clean, he agreed but told me that was the best he could do and still charged me full price! I will never bring my shoes here again. read more

I have gone to this shoe repair multiple times to get the heels on my stilettos repaired and I live real close to it. They are very nice, and can even fix the shoe while you wait if you need it quickly. It only costs around 10 bucks for one pair to get re-heeled, which is worth it instead of buying a new pair of black leather heels for $100. And they can repair the front tip of the shoe and always shine your shoes for you and make then look new again! I will be going back to this place again. They also repair purses and other things, but I have not needed that yet. They only take cash though. So make sure you bring some. read more

I am not a complainer, but I do spend a lot on my shoe purchases and he ruined a $450.00 pair of "old Gringos." I knew immediately after I put them on that he had cut the heel, and used a slimmer line for the rubber heel replacement. I was so distraught that I called the company and begged them to replace the heels, as I knew that he had cut them down. Sadly, they do not do aftermarket repairs unless it is a defect, but they sent me new rubber heel replacements in the correct size. I just brought them back to my old guy in Mt. Prospect (I'm a suburban transplant back to the city) and asked that he add a layer of leather to the heel. My former shoemaker, called to prepare me for the price change, since he had to even out the heels, they were not even level or even. Needless to say- this venue does not even merit one star. Take your shoes here at your own peril. He also did a bait and switch, where he quoted one price and when I went to pick them up, he attempted to collect more. Not cool. I had my shoes shined after a late season snow and they said they had to use a special cleaner to remove salt, for which they charge $20 extra. I was then down in St. Louis (where they rarely need to use salt) a few weeks later in early May wearing the shoes for the first time, and I got caught in a little rain. The salt marks reappeared on my shoes. I brought them back in to have them redone, and was told I'd have to pay again for the special cleaner. When I explained that I shouldn't have to pay again as the salt remover was just applied, he just turned away and went back to work. read more

This place is completely disorganized and overpriced. After getting several pairs of shoes repaired they still ripped me off and tried to charge me $30 to replace a zipper on my boots. When I picked them up the zipper had just been restrung and was still broken. He told me they were repairing both zippers and I assumed they would polish them for $30. I took in a pair of expensive leather boots to be re-soled and they replaced it with a very cheap rubber bottom. It had completely worn through within a week. I took them back in, and they claimed that it was not their work and that they had never seen me before. I asked them to redo the job with better quality materials, and they wanted to recharge me for the work. I refused, and they ended up doing it again. However, I still am not satisfied with the quality of the sole that they used, (the shoes now feel uneven when I wear them) and they blatantly lied on the work that they did. Given the mixed reviews I thought I would post that I have found this repair shop providing nothing but quality work on a reliable and prompt service. I have brought anything from expensive boots and shoes to average handbags in need of leather stitching and been completely satisfied. Hard to speak to price as not sure where else their service is provided... I recall my husband taking a leather belt somewhere else once where the buckle was sewn on backwards. read more
