I requested Village Cobbler to clean the straps of my shoes, instead they painted straps without asking!!! Peeling after 1 week.
    Abby I.

In Chicago for a week, taking care of my sick father. Stopped by Village Cobbler (first time) and requested they CLEAN the straps of a newish pair of Vince Camuto wedge heels purchased this summer. Someone spilled soda on my legs during a concert so the straps stained somewhat. I returned a week later and the straps seemed very light in color compared to the shoes but I figured it was the cleaning solution used. NOPE. A week later the PAINT used on the straps started to peel - PAINT! (see picture). I called from St. Louis to inform manager Gerardo Ulate of the situation and he asked "well, what kind of leather is it?" REALLY?? I never asked you to paint my leather shoes in the first place, who does this w/o consulting the client first??? Now I'm in St. Louis with a pair of $200 ruined Vince Camuto's. BEWARE!!

They do very good work. However, I was charged $50 for a minor repair on a handbag! Beware!...and ask about costs in advance.

I invested $30 into my not-so-spanking new black boots, and then another $15 to fix the zipper on my suitcase.

From re-soling Bally loafers and Louboutin heels, adjusting the fit, fixing rips in the heel of stilettos, repairing and polishing purses, replacing a metal shank in a pair of sandals - we've used a lot of his services. While it's not inexpensive, you get what you pay for and I'm glad to not spend a lot more for a new pair of shoes that then needs to be worn in.

I went back to have it re-done and he somewhat fixed it. Started walking in them and noticed one shoe started squeaking extremely loudlyly when it didn't before - the air was coming in and out of the sole because he did not seal the leather properly. Sounded like a tire pump as I was walking around. NOT a cute sound. Came in a second time and explained this to him and he didn't want to hear it. Blamed it on the weather that it was wet outside and I kept telling him that it was like that even when it was dry out, and he kept ignoring me. Pretty rude and refused to fix it even if after I offered to pay more to have it redone again... I never write poor reviews but the customer should always be right and he was unprofessional and rude in my opinion.

I dropped it off Wednesday and they said it would be ready by Monday. They actually had it ready the next day so thy are definitely fast but I think I would have preferred they take their time and get the small details right. The ll bean boots look good, there was some leftover polish they didn't fully rub in but minor quibble. Really its the repair on the danner boots that I think would have benefited from more attention to detail. The leather they replaced is the same color but way more wrinkled and its clearly a cheaper leather than the original. Whats worse is the stitching, the old one had it tucked in and smooth but the repair has the old leather more pronounced and it rubs on the heel and ankle. Its still wearable but feel like an extra 10 minutes would have resulted in a better finish.

There are also new discolored splotches on the boots and the tongue of the shoe is still dirty so the cleaning job was not even thorough. I felt compelled to pay and tip because the guys were very friendly, but frankly I feel swindled and cheated. I would never have left my shoes there if I'd known that was the quality and price. I would have just bought the oil and did it myself. Be more transparent about your rates, I will not be returning.
