The canyon is beautiful and even with my crappy phone camera I was able to get some decent pics. The canyon really looks like the pics you see on the internet. We only had about a dozen in our group - we went at 1 PM. We were told to go earlier but the size of our group was smaller because we waited and the colors were still pink amazing. There are some pretty steep steps to climb down in the beginning but don't let those deter you. Just go slow - it's worth it!

Guide said the upper antelope is half the length and only worth it if sun is shining which is why they only tour between 10-1 for that one. They have a gift shop and cafe inside with food.

The process was…read morestraightforward and we got to the tour meeting location early on our tour date (August 13) so we decided to get something to eat nearby. When we got back to the meeting location, we got on our bus (number 6) and proceeded to the tour location. Unfortunately, the tour bus driver got a radio call that the tour was cancelled due to rain so we turned around and headed back to the tour meeting location. My wife and I got off the bus and went inside to see what could be done and we were given the option to reschedule or get a refund. We chose a refund since we were only in town for the day and a refund was processed. The credit showed up on my credit card the very next day. I can't blame the tour company or even be upset because the rain was out of their control but I really appreciated the way that everything was handled and how quick the refund was processed. I learned of Grand Staircase Discovery Tours in September 2015 when I saw photographs posted on the…read moreGrand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Facebook page. I got in touch with the individual who posted the photos and was given the contact info for the above company. I inquired about a potential trip for March 2016 and was given different options. I also made contact with other companies doing the similar tours, in the end I decided to go with Grand Staircase Discovery Tours. The main tour which I wanted was White Pocket. I advised the potential date in March and Chris Chalmers (the owner) penciled this. I also inquired about South Coyote Buttes and Chris gave me the steps on applying for a permit. I did get the permit for South Coyote Buttes and the trip was built around it. The cost for the different tours were discussed and confirmed. As we got closer to our trip, Chris emailed and called several times to finetune our trip. We are now back in Bakersfield. We ended up taking 3 trips with them. Rob Wulff was our guide. Rob was the ultimate guide, soft spoken and knowledgeable about the area including the geology. Rob was extremely helpful specially on our first trip which was an overnight stay at White Pocket. The weather was not cooperative with the wind blowing 40-45 mph. Rob made it as comfortable as he can given the conditions. He showed us the good spots photograph and also made sure as a group (5) we were constantly watched over for our safety. During our hikes, Rob made sure the pace was right for everyone. The cost of their tours were comparable if not less than the other tour companies. Their service was great. Their attention to the details was impeccable. We will be back for more tours with Chris. We spent just over a full day/ 30 hrs in Page, AZ to experience four-wheeling, kayaking, Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. The first day we got into Page, it was about 2pm and we spontaneously joined fun atv drive around parts of the Grand Canyon exploring some spectacular views and drive. There had even been pockets of snow still on the ground in April 2024. Completed Kayaking and seeing Antelope Canyon the 1st morning/afternoon in Page,AZ. It's an amazing. and a perfect way to end the first day with a sunset hike. Wanted to enjoy a sunset hike to Horseshoe Bend and I highly recommend the trip here to experience if. We headed to Horseshoe Bend before sunset and while it was getting crowded we still got some quiet time to just be in awe of nature and all its awesomeness. Horseshoe Bend could be done in about 2 hrs. Just depends on how long you'd like to stay to take in the views. Parking is at the entrance and the trek to the bend is not a difficult one. Just follow the crowds. Enjoyed some delicious bbq and live music that evening before our last night and then returning to California early next morning.

It's a 20-30 minute walk going to the to the bend and another 20-30 minutes back. The walk to the bend is on a decline and then the walk back to the parking lot is at an incline. The incline does tend to seem steeper than the decline but there are shaded stops (2 shaded viewpoints) with some seating if you need to stop on your way back. Take comfy shoes, i was able to do the trail in sandals but just be careful

The day before our tour, Julia called to let us know strong headwinds were expected and asked if we wanted to adjust our time. We already had a different morning tour scheduled, and they were incredibly accommodating with our plans. At the launch site, we met our guide Logan, and we were lucky that it was just our family of four on this tour. Husband and I wore aqua shoes and my daughters opted to wear their Birkenstock sandals and go barefoot, which was fine if you're okay with getting red mud on them. Logan was friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I was a bit nervous since I'm a beginner kayaker, but he let us move at our own pace. It ended up being a great workout while still feeling peaceful and relaxing. The scenery was absolutely stunning. The canyon was quiet, beautiful, and not crowded at all. We paddled across Lake Powell and into the canyon, and the cool lake water felt amazing in the warm end-of-March weather (mid-80s). They provided life jackets, offered bottled water, and Logan even took photos of us both on the water and at the end of the canyon, which we really appreciated. He also shared helpful paddling tips along the way. The entire tour lasted about 2.5-3 hours and was a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Our group completed the kayak and hike which were very much worth it! We needed slight accommodations and Sid and John were reassuring and supportive for both my mom and I. This tour is really for everyone and I can't recommend this tour company and John enough. Because we traveled during off season, we had the entire lake and trail to ourselves. John left much time for us to take cool pictures and was a wealth of knowledge. He made sure to engage with each person in the group and was successful in getting the more shy individuals to step out of their comfort zones. John and Sid (the other employee) made this tour worth it. They provided awesome recommendations for things in the area and also future outdoor related activities in the U.S. Be sure to pack enough water. Remember you are in a kayak and your items will likely get soaked. Luckily they provide one water proof bag per kayak which can hold your phone and camera. If you feel the need to pack more, I recommend that you bring your own waterproof back pack. I opted to go barefoot in the kayak and wear shoes on the hike. You will have to walk through water to get on and off of the boat. Do not let your size and fitness level deter you from this tour. The team is incredibly accommodating and reassuring, making this the perfect tour for all. Highly recommend this tour and either Sid or John!
