    Pizza bites
    Chelly A.

We came to get a quick bite here while we had to wait for the bus at the Vancouver mall. We ordered 2 pretzel dogs, 2 orange cream drinks and pizza bites and it rang up $45 dollars. What?? I can eat at a restaurant for that much. To make matters worse, the service wasn't very friendly, the orange cream drink was thrown away because it had so much ice in it that it was flavorless and the pizza bites are nothing but doughy with one slice of pepperoni on it. Outrageous for that amount of money I could've had an amazing meal. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're just getting the pretzel dogs. Those were decent.

They had a nice draft and bottle selection of German beer. The food was delicious. The pretzel was scrumptious with 3 dipping sauces that were all good. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel, prepared breaded and pan fried like a Wienerschnitzel. It was cooked perfectly with the pork tender and thin. The red cabbage was great too. The warm German potato salad was not traditional. It tasted more like seasoned fried potatoes, but they were still good. My only suggestion would have been a little more gravy. My husband got the Maultaschen, which we had never had. It was a pasta filled with sautéed leeks & cheese, topped with asparagus, & mushrooms in white wine sauce...delicious. Everything was great!!!

I needed protein but it's ALL ABOUT THE BRETZEL (with fermented beer cheese, spicy Dijon, and better-than-butter chicken FAT). It's chewy and toasty and crusted in very fine flake salt - DIVINE! Hausgemachte Wurst (x2 wurst) - Weisswurst was smooth & slightly smoked, excellent with curry ketchup. Bratwurst was shorter & grilled, perfectly herby, although Dijon adds heat - needed because it was a little dry. Add-on Spatzle is comforting, a little charred, probably better with a Bock or Pilz (or CHZ PLZ!). To make it all go down EZ - the very best kraut I've ever had anywhere - rich with slight fruit (ACV?), and smooth like butter. It's warming winter food but still tasty AF in the sunshine.

Having been to places like Leavenworth and Mt. It was only today, when my boss took our department out to lunch here, was I reminded of how many things Gustav's does right, despite being a chain restaurant. The first reminder came in the form of the interior décor; I forgot how charming it is here: from the entrance to the bar and to the dining halls, there are few restaurants in Vancouver as immediately evocative and immersive in their aesthetics. Our server was friendly, welcoming and helpful in her suggestions, particularly for those members of our party to whom German cuisine is very unfamiliar. The food, by and large, is excellent, although the prices are a bit steep for some of the offerings: for example, the goulash is tied for the most expensive item on the menu, along with the Bavarian Feast. One of these dishes makes sense for the price point; the other does not. It's hard to go wrong with the feast, the wurst platter (in any combination), or any of the schnitzels, but sadly, the Kohlrouladen that I ordered (one of my absolute favorites) didn't quite live up to the high bar set by the same dish at Baren Haus in Leavenworth. The two rounds of fondue with sausage that we ordered as an appetizer were well-received (and thoroughly ravaged) by our party of eight in record time! And although I didn't partake (as I have a negative sweet tooth), a trio of desserts finished off our group's meal, and left everyone satisfied. Overall, Gustav does far more right than I remembered, or gave them credit for. Other than my nitpicks about one particular entrée, and some questionable pricing, everything else about Gustav's punches far above its weight class, especially when considering the fact that it is a chain. By that metric, they have no business being as fantastic as they are! With a couple of tweaks, such as a firmer commitment to embracing German authenticity, and toning down the prices a bit, Gustav's will absolutely have a lock on that fifth star that lies just barely outside their reach.

Much has changed here since my last review, so I thought I should update it…read more They have expanded the space inside to include a larger bathroom, which is awesome considering they only had one gender neutral bathroom available when we first started coming here. There are more tables too, both normal height and high tops. They've also added a pool table and cornhole, in addition to the original ping pong table. Their menu has evolved as well. In addition to pizzas, sandwiches and appetizers, they've added a Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese, spinach artichoke dip and ice cream floats. They have a nice variety of beers and ciders. Staff is always friendly and helpful. We love their QR code ordering system. It helps you get your food faster and you can just pay your tab on your phone. Such a convenience! You can also make reservations online, which is great for large parties. As others have mentioned, it is located in an odd industrial area set back from the main road. It's easy to miss if you're not watching for their sign. There's plenty of parking and a large outdoor seating area during the summer. Their food prices have gone up, and some items seem a little steep now, but that seems to be happening everywhere nowadays.

Several outdoor seating options too. Several beers on tap but I love IPAs, so that's what I got. The 5k was my favorite. The Santa Fe chicken sandwich was quite good. Plenty of flavor there. It came with a side of chips that were perfectly crunchy and salty. I'll definitely be frequenting this brewery.

Well, first off the location is just a little strange as it seems like it's kind of an a residential type of neighborhood /business area? But really that's not a complaint just an observation. We got there early on a Saturday night before it was crowded which means we had the time to look around and observe how cool this place was. They do have a stage where they can have live music play and also do karaoke. We were there too early for either of those, but it's cool to know that they have it there. They have lots of video screens and TV monitors around where heavy metal videos are being played, which is awesome! Plenty of long solid thick wood tables to sit at for large groups, which is great. Also lots of pub tables that sit high. They also have outdoor seating for those warm summer evenings. They have a couple of pinball machines there which we played after ordering our food. Even a can holder on the side to hold your beer while you are being a pinball wizard. They have lots of their own special craft beers on tap that they brew themselves . In fact, one of them was so good that I bought a four pack of it to take home with me! The service there was great. The two guys that were there were very friendly and helpful. One of the guys' names was Kevin and he was very personable, however, both the guys were really awesome! Now for the good part..the pizza! We ordered two medium pizzas. One medium taco pizza, and one medium double pepperoni pizza. The double pepperoni pizza was hands-down the best pepperoni pizza I have ever had. You could actually taste the garlic in the crust, which doesn't happen with other pizza places. Th Taco Pizza was also fantastic as well. Our family of three dang near eat both pizzas. We had just a few slices left over to take home and enjoy plus the four pack of their specialty craft beer that I bought. We will definitely be returning again!

My partner's burger was ok (you can get a better one at several different restaurants in Vancouver) and my "Aztec" salad was extremely underwhelming. It consisted of romaine lettuce (majority stem and very little leafy greens), thin tortilla strips, a tiny amount of avocado, tomato, a tiny amount of black beans and corn and came dressed in a chipotle dressing. There were no jalapeños or cheese in sight and you REALLY had to search for the black beans, corn and avocado, as there were barely any. This reminded me of a taco salad you would order at a Dennys or other cheap diner where you are expecting to be underwhelmed, yet the price tag for this salad was nearly $19 and didn't even have any protein unless you were willing to pay another $6-$12.50 for it. This was literally the worst taco salad I have ever had and it's a pretty simple dish to mess up. You can get a much better quality taco salad with adequate avocado, black beans and corn that also includes pulled pork at Seize the Bagel for $10.50. Maybe for drinks and the view this place is great, but don't waste your money on their overpriced and underwhelming food.
