Good, authentic German food. The service was also great. Sort of a small restaurant, so we opted to sit in the corner of the bar to shorten the wait. I think the bartender took pity- comped my wine just because. Great experience overall and would definitely come back!

This is pretty German food! The ambiance is cozy and friendly. We went here for dinner date night and was pleasantly impressed. The staff is prompt and efficient. They offer a great variety of German beers and in different sizes. I would try one of their beers, they come in different glasses depending on what kind. The soft pretzel was so good, amazing. Comes with a spicy seed mustard and pork fat? Not used to that type of spread but I could eat 5 of those pretzels by myself. I ordered the weiner snitzel and a side of spatzel because I love spatzel. This was on the best, buttery, soft and slightly crisp. The snitzel was delicious, crisp and perfectly cooked with a side of carrot salad. My husband tried the pork knuckle and it was good but pretty salty. The size is enough for two people. I would definitely come back and try more dishes and beers! Prost!

This is a cute German spot in NE Portland. As someone who speaks German, I appreciated that the menu titles were in actual German and not just a kitschy knockoff. The beer selection was also really nice and they offered a lot of different varieties from German breweries. The Jägerschnitzel overall tasted good but the meat was not breaded - I've had a lot of schnitzel throughout Germany and Austria and I've never had a schnitzel that wasn't breaded.

Absolutely love this place! The ambiance is beautiful and service is friendly and prompt. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant is very cozy in the winter. The food is consistently excellent, and the happy hour menu is also killer! I haven't had anything I didn't like on the menu. Must try's are the Bretzel, Weisswurst, Rabbit, and Apple Strudel!

I met some dear friends for dinner here due to the close proximity to where we'd all be that night, and I'm very happy that we chose Stammtisch. I'd been longing for great schweinzhaxe since Gustav's doesn't really exist anymore (save for the one location in Vancouver), and a trip back to Munich is a bit impractical. Stammtisch's example was quite good! Seems to be made the authentic way (roasting of a long period of time as opposed to a quick deep fry to crisp up a braised pork knuckle before service). It was tender, crispy, and delicious. On our visit, they were out of Kartoffelpuffer, so we opted for currywurst (lovely, but the wurst link was on the cold side) and a "Bretzel", which was the best I've had since I was in Munich. I'm not a beer drinker, but their variety of German imports was impressive. We were seated outside, which I generally hate, but it was after dark, and the nice overhead lighting and cozy location of the outdoor seats made it pretty easy to forget that we were outside. Service was friendly and prompt, which was great (again, being outside, it seems easy to be forgotten about). I'd definitely return, and am looking forward to our next visit.

This place is very comfortable to hang out. I had the three wurst plate served on a bed of kraut and a cucumber salad. All was delicious.

It's difficult to name my favorite restaurant, but Stammtisch comes quickly to mind. And for beer it's #1. They added a new yummy item to the Happy Hour menu: fries topped with a delicious ragu-like tangy pork. Turns out my favorite beer, the dark Hef with banana cloves, is a seasonal. I had to settle for the lighter Ayinger Brau Weisse which is more suitable for hot weather. As I've stated in previous reviews, the glassware they use makes a positive difference. Love this place.

Comfort food at its finest! The Maultaschen are packed with flavor and just the right amount of heartiness. The clams were a highlight as well, wish it came with more bread!

Very enjoyable dining experience. Tamar was our friendly, efficient and very personable server. We enjoyed their delicious pretzel with schmaltz, (that's a no for me), mustard and obatzda. We ordered a big plate of French fries, a couple of sausages and some kraut. Everything was piping hot and well prepared.

    Bitburger and a Weissbier.

Hope you like German beer - cause this joint has all of them. OK, a slight exaggeration, but they certainly do stock a lot of the styles. Anyway, I stopped in for a quick drink, pre-Thanksgiving and even though the place was packed, the bartender was totally attentive- even giving samplers of a couple of brews to my indecisive wife. Service is spot on: efficient yet friendly and not rushed. These guys are pros. My refreshing Bitburger Pils was just the ticket on this evening and the plate of fries came out nice and thin and crispy - just the way we like 'em - with a lovely curry ketchup to dip them into. Warm and cozy room inside, dim lighting and warm wood, with a holiday feel this week to boot. A solid pub to duck into on a rainy night.

The patty was cooked with a slight pink -- exactly how it should be -- juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The spring lettuce was an interesting switch from the usual, but it actually worked and gave the burger a fresh bite. It's a solid-sized burger too, definitely filling. Only minor thing was some of the cheese slid off, but nothing that took away from it overall. I also tried the Caesar salad. It didn't come with croutons (not sure if that's intentional), and while the dressing was evenly coated, the Parmesan was a bit heavy and ended up overpowering the rest. Not bad, just not as balanced as it could be. What really sets this place apart is the atmosphere. It's put together in a way that makes you forget you're even in the city -- relaxed, comfortable, and easy to settle into. Service was easily a 10/10. Attentive without being overbearing, respectful, and genuinely friendly -- the kind of staff that makes the experience better without trying too hard. Overall, a really solid spot. Their tap list is extensive but also includes non-standard options. We love to see non-alcoholic beers as well as gluten free beer, cider, cocktails, and other libations. The food menu is great too. There are several items that either come gluten free or can be modified to be. The servers are knowledgeable about the ingredients of the menu items and I feel confident and safe eating here when gluten free is a need for me. They can get pretty crowded, but have several seating options. It was nice out today so outdoor seating was even possible, though it looked like there was a wait. There are tvs in several spots that showcase local sports when possible. There is a kids area and you can sit close while the kids play. Everyone we come in contact with here from servers to hosts are super friendly and welcoming. The food is pretty good. This time around, we shared the garlic Parmesan fries and the chicken wings (buffalo and honey gojuchang sauces). The wings were smoked and moist with good flavor. The fries were alright. More of the aioli would have helped so maybe request extra sauce or get some on the side. The dessert menu has some non-traditional offerings. The highlight for me was the cheesecake. I was assured by a server one time that the chef creates a gluten free cheesecake that rotates on the seasonal dessert menu. The current offering is tiramisu. The coffee chocolate sauce is good and I appreciated the bonus chocolate chip biscotti. The actual cheesecake is decent and I would be excited to try other flavors in the future.

There are entrances from the street and also an entrance from the hotel (The Royal Sonesta) but oddly, it is not marked. It's not on any sign in the hotel, either. Staff at the front desk were busy. I just wandered around until I found it. The restaurant is accessible. I'd checked the menu online ahead of time, but found it had mostly changed. Both menus were short, but had something for everyone. For dinner, I started with the artisan pretzel bites, which came with a dipping sauce. They were warm an pillowy, and not too salty. I had to stop eating them so I could eat the house angus burger and fries. I wanted to swap a salad for the fries - I'd seen this option on an old menu online - but it was no longer really an option, so I let it go. I did ask that the chili aioli be left off, but the burger still came with some kind of sauce, which I think was the aioli. (Not so good that I couldn't tell.) The burger was good-sized, but pretty boring, even with the toppings. I added more ketchup. It got messier, but not better. I would have preferred raw onions rather than griddled ones. For breakfast, I had the Classic - I think that's what it was called. Two eggs your way, meat of your choice, potatoes, and toast (white or wheat). I asked for scrambled eggs, wheat toast, and I wanted ham. Except not. The only "choice of meat" was bacon. OK, so bacon it was. Most of it was all fine and filling. The best of it was the wheat toast. The eggs were not so good, though. The food taste varied, but the servings were always generous, and the place and staff were nice and helpful.

I also ordered many plates for brunch including the brioche french toast bread pudding, corned beef hash, eggs benedict and crepe cake. I would highly recommend the corned bee hash and bread pudding. Eggs benedict was decent, liked their breakfast potato (crunch on the outside, moist on the inside with cajun seasoning). I would skip the crepe cake. The crepe was too thick so it became super dense -- and not worth the $13 if I were paying out of pocket. Great service! I would return if I stayed at Royal Sonesta again.

Great rooftop vibe and a fun place to hang out for an afternoon. We got the pizza with artichoke hearts, mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, and basil. It was super flavorful and the dough was delicious, especially the crust. We also tried the catfish po' boy. It was a little salty, but the fish itself was cooked really well and the sauce was tasty.
