Chris was a great server! We were there for my birthday and brought our own cake. He offered to put in the walk in while we had dinner. I had a lemon drop martini, spouse a beer, friends a martini, and a glass of wine. Calamari was tender and excellent. My burger on point! Spouse had fish and chips and it was also great. Our friends had short rib Mac and cheese and another spicy burger. Chris brought out the cake. And we offered him a piece -- he accepted for gf as he wasn't into sweets. The view and cocktails are great, however the food and service need much improvement. We had to ask for napkins and utensils twice along with sauce for our Cajun tots twice as well and by the time we got it, the tots were cold. My partner's burger was ok (you can get a better one at several different restaurants in Vancouver) and my "Aztec" salad was extremely underwhelming. It consisted of romaine lettuce (majority stem and very little leafy greens), thin tortilla strips, a tiny amount of avocado, tomato, a tiny amount of black beans and corn and came dressed in a chipotle dressing. There were no jalapeños or cheese in sight and you REALLY had to search for the black beans, corn and avocado, as there were barely any. This reminded me of a taco salad you would order at a Dennys or other cheap diner where you are expecting to be underwhelmed, yet the price tag for this salad was nearly $19 and didn't even have any protein unless you were willing to pay another $6-$12.50 for it. This was literally the worst taco salad I have ever had and it's a pretty simple dish to mess up. You can get a much better quality taco salad with adequate avocado, black beans and corn that also includes pulled pork at Seize the Bagel for $10.50. Maybe for drinks and the view this place is great, but don't waste your money on their overpriced and underwhelming food. read more

I really love coming to the McMenamins on the Columbia, sitting outside the patio and watching the sailboats go back-and-forth, jet ski's, boats. The service is always good at this restaurant a wide variety of different types of beers and cocktails. The food menu is good. I do like that. They offer specialty foods once a month.. This last trip to the restaurant I ordered off of their specialty menu for the month and it was the Kahlúa pork over rice with macaroni salad. I was thoroughly looking forward to this meal, but it was very disappointed in the meal. The pork was very salty, and I don't know why there was so much grease on my plate that it covered most of the macaroni salad and the dinner roll that came with it was soaked to the grease. The rice was old because a lot of the rice was hard. It wasn't soft anymore. It was fully cooked rice, however it had been sitting uncovered and so now I was getting dried out Rice. I could not finish the meal because again the pork was so salty and the grease under the pork. I definitely will not order that again if it's on the menu and I'll just go with a burger. What a beautiful location this is! With a nicely sized patio with colorful shading umbrellas and stellar views of the mighty Columbia River, this is a fantastic place to go with company, all by yourself or... take your furry friends along for company to dine (or just drink) on the patio. They provide the usual McMenamins fare with a few surprises. The servers are all top-notch; professional and friendly. My most recent trip, I visited during happy hour (which starts at 2pm) and tried the garlic shrimp on the happy hour menu. It comes with a nice large piece of fresh bread for dipping in the mouthwatering sauce (can't waste that sauce) along with McM's own brand of peach cider, this choice was definitely a winner. I had my cat in her pink pram, I sat outside (in the shade because it was particularly warm that day) and had a perfect experience. Huge shout out to Head Manager Paul Selby for making me feel special! I highly recommend this location for your happiest dining experience. Request for outside seating in the summer! It's beautiful overlooks the water :) we went here instead of Oswego grill we think the food is delicious and has the same view and it's a bit cheaper! I got the chowder soup which was amazing! And the clam soup and we devoured every bit of the clam! I got some ice tea unsweetened and my boyfriend got beer! Went here as a group of 11. Enjoyed dinner right next to the river. The evening was cool, sunset beautiful and we even had an eclipse last night. The service was good, it was clean, and the view was beautiful but the food wasn't great. The fries & salad were good - but my mom had the steak frites and she said it tasted like Teriyaki & throughout it was different (rare one part, medium the next, well done). I knew I shouldn't of got the fish and chips but I did anyway because it sounded good and the fish was a little tough. It also tasted freezer burn-ish or old? Heard there was an IPA invasion going on. I wasn't a fan till I had Covid. After, softer beers tasted weak like seltzer water. Going on 5 years now, and I still haven't recovered a full taste profile. Now I go for flavor, and that includes IPA's, sours or anything with complex layers. The restaurant wasn't full so I requested a riverside table. The bar is cozy, but going all that way and not enjoy the view would be a shame. Staff was friendly & accommodating, and sat me in a perfect corner spot on the patio. The table next to me had been working through the IPA tasting, and it was something like 8 samples. That would have been way too much for me. I asked their favorite and ordered it! The White Tiger IPA went nicely with the cheeseburger slider trio off the HH menu. Watching boats go by, and chatting with other patrons about passport stamps, was a lovely way to spend an evening in Vancouver. Tonight we thought we would give McMenamins a second chance. My server was a different young man. This time it was well worth it. Everything in the order was completed properly and was tasty. It was another take out order. To start I had a Leviathon Hazy IPA. WOW, where had it been all my life! Very tasty, and just to my liking. Citrus, dry hopped, fruity, full-bodied, with a floral finish. Dinner was fish and chips - tots instead of fries, Harvest Moon Salad (added chicken), a bowl of the soup of the day and two desserts. We were very happy tonight. I told the server we had issues last night. He told me there was a different chef working tonight, and he double checked our order. His tip reflected his service and ensuring everything was correct. Looking at happy hour bar menu, get there between 2:00 and 5:00 weeknights for a pretty decent bar menu. Our server though was very sweet and took good care of us. The service can be hit or miss. Great spot on the water though to enjoy some food and drinks. Offers indoor and outdoor seating, I like the style of the restaurant and bar. Got the happy hour Ala carte smash burger, it was good. However I wish it was one or two patties smashed a little thinner than the three patties they have on it. Tots were on point though and they were generous on the ranch for us. I ordered a take-out Burger and fries. It was $22. It was Sooooo dry and overcooked I had trouble swallowing it. The meat looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. I've been to several McMenamins and typically describe them as all ambiance and mediocre food. However I'd say this location really balances. The views of the Columbia River were great. Was seated by the window. The food was all really good. Bacon cheeseburger was juicy, tots were perfect crisp. Also had clams which had a flavorful garlic sauce. The chocolate mousse cake was moist and chocolatey goodness. Server was attentive and ensured we had our food quickly too. Great experience and look forward to returning. So we showed up at 5:30 on 12/17. Yes the day of the Christmas ships. at this time half the restaurant was empty. We were seated with friends who where already there. It took 30 min for the server to stop by and take our drink order. It took 20 min to get our drinks and they were wrong. We placed our food order at this time. It took 40 min to get our food. And it was all cold. To boot I paid $22 for steak bites with 5 chunks of cold steak, canned mushrooms and the "garlic bread" was the bottom of a hot dog bun. We we never checked on at any other point. No one asked how our food was. I still tipped 20% .. not idea why. There was no service let alone prompt. I hate that this place is close to work. Maybe we need to try the new place next door. And I know they were busy, but I saw people get seated after me, get drinks before me and food before me. Oh because they are friends. nice. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch with friends. Even though it was only half full we opted to wait about 20 min for an outdoor table. We were seated with a beautiful view of the Columbia with the banks adorned with California poppies. Just lovely. Thankfully, the view and company of our friends made the poor service bearable. We sat at our table nearly 20 minutes before we were greeted by the server. We ordered and waited some more. It took nearly an hour to get our food, maybe longer. Our server was friendly and helpful but that didn't make up for the long waits. We assume the kitchen was slow getting the food out because our server was attentive and brought us refills of our iced tea regularly. When our food finally came it was pretty good, thankfully. I had the El Diablo sandwich. It had a generous amount of spiced, grilled chicken, avocado, lettuce and tomato. The tots that accompanied it were perfectly crisp and hot. My husband got the Fireside Roasted Turkey sandwich, he said it had obviously been sitting because the bread was soggy and his fries were cold. Our friends got the Azteca salad with added salmon and tots. They said it was good. I gave them a 3 today--the beautiful view made up for the soggy bread, cold fries and a very slow kitchen but they don't deserve a 5 star review. read more

We had a fantastic river side lunch here while staying in Portland (only 15 mins from our downtown hotel). I have heard the McMenamin's brand is fun/quirky and great quality it sure was! I didn't like how hot it was inside, and I did think it could have been the windows, but the table next to us had a man get up and check to see if the overhead ducts were working, so it wasn't just me. Back for another round of passports. We stopped in here for an early dinner. The view here is always a bonus at this location. I love watching the sail boats. They have more of a seafood menu, similar to the beach locations, since they're located on the water. The staff never seems as friendly as a lot of the other locations but that might be because they're a little busier and have a slightly more "upscale" atmosphere here. They're efficient and they're never rude, just not as friendly. Stop in for a great view for a casual meal or a special date night. read more

Traveling for work and we stayed nearby this area, came here for lunch upon checking into our hotel which was walking distance. It was pretty busy for a Monday during lunch time and we accidentally walked in the back entrance. It took us some time to get seated and we got to take a look at the menu, you have a great view of the Columbia River from the restaurant and they have both bar and table seating. We had a party of 3. I got a salad and added steak bites and a cup of clam chowder. The menu is pretty all American, I think one of my coworkers got the fish and chips and another got a burger without the bun. BlackBerry-a little tart, and a little smooth, not bad. I wouldn't get that if I visit one of their bars. Also sipped McMenamins Ruby. Not too bad as well, I may order this one. But my Nebraska was like water to me. Service started getting busy. Our guy just got two more tables after leaving menus for us to review. He got a one top and four rope table that he took orders from Before our table gave our order. We had a small family reunion here on a Monday night. The place wasn't crowded, or loud and the service was amazing. We had a variety of dishes, and a few beer flights to go around. The staff didn't rush us and instead made us all feel welcome for the entire time. The Jamaican Rice Bowl was light, and fresh with just the faintest hint of heat. The salmon dish was fresh and not overcooked. To be honest, we were reluctant to order it from a place like this, but we were so pleased!. The clam chowder and Caesar salad were the exact size and amount necessary. The steak bites were a little overdone but the cut of meat was so tasty and tender we didn't even mind! Back/Bleu burger was so dry. Couldn't tell it had bleu cheese on it and it had one piece of bacon. If that's the main title of the burger you would think that would make a presence. I had 12 tater tots. (Yes I counted) it wasn't good. Communication breakdown was good. We did try the crispy shrimp sliders. Those were really tasty. Service was really slow and getting food from the kitchen very slow while we were there. The table next to us also had waited much longer. Our server was nice. Patio great. Umbrellas helpful for shade. We recently ate at the other Vancouver location and service was great but the food wasn't great either. I think over all they seem to be declining the quality that has always made them a favorite. read more
