This place was just down the street from my hotel so it was a great spot for breakfast (or any meal). The restaurant is spacious with multiple tables and a bar area. It was a bit odd when seating since no one was at the hostess station. I walked pass and checked in at the bar. I was promptly seated. I sat in a nook area just off the main dining room that overlooks the outdoor patio and the gulch behind that. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and it was crispy with just the right amount of gravy. Probably could have used a little bit more. The neat thing here is the full menu is available to order from (breakfast, lunch & dinner). Service is a bit off. Not sure where my server went after she dropped off the check. Also, they have a full bar so get that mimosa or Bloody Mary.

Our food and service was wonderful. The chicken chilaquiles are outstanding!! We definitely will be visiting again!!

Service and ambiance were perfect. Weather and outside patio were great, Dog friendly and we saw them bring a bowl of water for other dogs. There is inside seating but it was warm in there. Chorizo and what was good but needed a little more flavor. The special of the day was Calimari and salad and it was good. We would for sure come back!

We were in town for a mini vacation. This place was walking distance from the hotel so we went twice. Service was great. I got the lobster omelet. It looked great, and if you like seafood, I am sure this is a great option. It was too fishy for me. The server noticed I was unhappy and offered to get me something else which I gladly accepted. My replacement omelet was good. Additionally, they have a great selection of beers on tap. Tried some local brews while we were here. The restaurant itself had indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside once and outside once. It was off season so there were not many other customers and we really had a choice of the space.

Great service, food was amazing! Food was cooked quickly and cooked exactly as requested. Our coffee cups were always full. Will be back!

Amazing food and service! Naomi and the team at Whale City were incredible -- warm, attentive, and welcoming. The food was phenomenal! The handmade crab cakes were the best I've ever had, the burger bun and croissant were freshly baked and delicious, the French onion soup was rich and comforting, and the Brussels sprouts were amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection in a wonderful family-friendly atmosphere. We absolutely loved it and can't wait to come back!

The food was sooo good, and we sat outside on the patio enjoying the beautiful weather. Our server was super friendly and efficient.

Hi! I saw that there are outlets and wifi here, but is it a place where I could get some food and study for a few hours? Or is it not a place to stay for that long. Thank you!

I think you could spend some time here except during peak hours when they might appreciate the tables.

Yelp Elite Review: Where the Coffee Is Bold & the Stories Are Even Better…read more Some restaurants serve breakfast. This place serves breakfast with a side of Santa Cruz history. This spot has been around for years, and when my boys were younger, we would come here after a day at the beach. It has gone through a few owners over the years, but the improvements they've made are awesome. The place still has that classic beach-town chill--lots of laughter, good food, and people enjoying life. Parking? Let's just say Santa Cruz and parking have never exactly been best friends. But once you get inside, you have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and it's worth the effort. One of my favorite things about this place is the history. For years, a group of local fishermen have been coming here. Two of them are still regulars, sitting around telling fish stories. And if you know fishermen, you know those stories have probably gotten a little bigger every year. My wife and I split the all-meat omelette, and it was delicious. They also do a fantastic job with the hash browns--crispy, hearty, and exactly what you want with breakfast. The coffee deserves its own paragraph. Bold, flavorful, and strong enough to make you believe you can conquer the day. Our server was wonderful. She has worked here since graduating from high school, and you could tell she genuinely cared about taking care of people. Friendly, positive, helpful, and the kind of service that makes you want to come back. There's a wonderful selection of food, but honestly, part of the experience is simply being there. You can almost feel the decades of stories in the walls--families, fishermen, beach days, laughter, and countless cups of coffee. This isn't just a place to grab breakfast. It's a place where Santa Cruz history is still being served--one omelette, one cup of coffee, and one slightly exaggerated fish story at a time. The counter service female was very nice and helpful. The sandwich was very good and we've eaten there many times in the past. When we both sat down to eat we noticed that our sandwich hadn't been cut in half. My girlfriend went back to the counter and asked a male kitchen employee behind the counter if he could cut our sandwich in half. The sandwich was completely wrapped in paper and we did not unwrap it at all prior to asking for it to be cut. His response was extremely rude and nasty. He claimed that it was already contaminated despite the fact that it was still completely wrapped in paper. He acted like we were putting him out by us asking him to simply cut the sandwich in half. He accused my girlfriend of "contaminating" the sandwich (in his words) just by touching it despite the fact that it was handled by 2 people before we even touched it. Basically, it was his scolding condescending tone that totally turned us off to ever visiting this place again. It only takes one lazy a--hole employee to ruin a great dining experience.

Great Food, Great Service & a Manager Who Actually Says Hello!…read more Loved this place! My bride and I had a fantastic experience from the moment we walked in. This restaurant has an incredible indoor and outdoor space, a great menu, and an atmosphere that somehow manages to be both chill and professional. You'll find a wonderfully diverse crowd here, and everyone seems to fit right in. Now, let's talk about the food! I highly recommend the meatballs--they were fantastic! And the garlic bread? Fabulous. Honestly, I could have made a meal out of the bread alone, but I exercised some restraint...because I'm an adult. My bride ordered the hamburger, and she loved it. The salads were excellent, the bread was outstanding, and the dessert selection was enough to make someone suddenly forget they were "too full for dessert." Our server was incredible--attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. And then, as if the experience couldn't get any better, the manager actually came out and welcomed us! You don't find that everywhere. That personal touch says a lot about how this place approaches hospitality. Everything was clean, the service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the ambiance made us want to hang around longer than we probably should have. One warning: Parking can be a bit of a challenge. But trust me, this is one of those places where you circle the parking lot a few times and say, "Lord, give me a parking space!" Yelp Elite verdict: Absolutely worth the hassle! Great food. Great people. Great atmosphere. Great service. And apparently, great managers who actually come out to meet their guests. My bride and I will definitely be back! #YelpElite #FoodieFind #DateNight #GreatFood #GreatService #Meatballs #GarlicBread #DessertLovers #RestaurantReview #WorthTheHassle #FoodAndFun #FiveStars
